Master class on making a raven and crow costume from a mask, cape and feathers

Materials

In the list of materials needed to make a tiger costume, first place will, of course, be artificial fur that imitates the color of the animal. You can also use textiles such as plush, fleece or knitwear. The main condition is that the suit made from the chosen material looks as believable and recognizable as possible.

If the material does not have the required pattern in the form of characteristic stripes, you can make them yourself. The first option is applique, the second is embroidery, the third is painting with fabric paints. Depending on the chosen decoration method, you will have to additionally prepare non-fraying material for applique (for example, soft felt or soft natural or artificial leather), threads for embroidery and paint (batik, acrylic) and a brush.

World of holidays

In this article you will learn how to make a tiger costume with your own hands for a children's party in three options. Here is the first example, the most adorable black hoodie based tiger costumes for brother and sister! All children love animals, so a children's tiger costume for a party is sure to be popular.

A meter of orange fabric and two sheets of white and black felt are all you need to turn the pieces into tiger print. TIP: When working with felt, buy good scissors, the best option is Fiskars Amplify, a good thing for long cuts on several layers of dense and heavy fabrics.

To create the tiger look, cut out several strips of orange felt and hot glue them in place. Then simply arrange the strips so that the pieces hang over the edge of the garment. It should be long enough to wrap around.

For the pants, roll a piece of black felt into a tube shape and sew it onto the back of the pants, this will be the tiger's tail . Add a few more stripes.

Look how cute it looks from behind!

An oval piece of white felt covers the belly.

For one costume, the ears are sewn directly onto the hood, and in the second version they are attached with small clips placed on a black headband. In total, the materials cost approximately $20, which was enough for two completely unique handmade costumes!

And here is the third example

Duct tape is great for crafts because you can do anything with it. Plus, the ribbon comes in so many great colors and patterns that you can create all sorts of costumes. This tiger costume is so easy to make that older kids could put it together with their own hands in literally an hour. Using duct tape you could also make a zebra, leopard and many other animals.

Supplies: Duct tape (orange and black) and scissors. You also need old clothes - a black long-sleeve T-shirt, leggings and a hair hoop.

Headband with ears

  • Cut a 15cm strip of black duct tape and secure it to one side of the hoop.
  • Fold and pinch the wrong sides of the tape. Cut out the ears in the shape of a triangle.
  • Then make small triangular cuts using orange duct tape and secure them to the ears.

Tiger body

  • Cut strips as shown in the photo. Stick on a T-shirt and leggings.

Tiger tail

Cut a strip of black duct tape 80 cm long. Fold it widthwise in the center, then pinch the halves together. Cut about 1.5 cm from each side all the way, but leave a branch at the bottom. Make thin slits about 5cm up the bottom of the ponytail, this will be the tassel. Then cut more orange strips to add to the tail. To attach the tail to the costume, use a safety pin or simply sew it on.

Complete set of suit

A tiger costume can consist of different clothing items that can be combined together or used as a separate item. For example, it could be a full-length jumpsuit, with a tail and a hood, on which you can design the face and ears of a tiger.

Or another option, simpler - overalls (or just trousers) with a tail sewn on and a mask or cap for the head. Additionally, you can use mittens in the shape of soft tiger paws.

Uncover

Download and print the pattern. Lay out the parts on sheets according to the proposed diagram or at your discretion.

From orange felt:

  • 1 mask base piece A;
  • 2 glove upper parts I.

From white felt:

  • 1 nose and cheek detail H;
  • 2 parts D in mirror image;
  • 2 palm parts, 10x15 cm.

From black felt:

  • 2 parts B in mirror image;
  • 2 parts C in mirror image;
  • 2 K parts in mirror image;
  • 2 parts G in mirror image;
  • 2 J parts;
  • one part each E and F.
  • 8 “fingers” (2 pieces L, M, N, O), they can be cut quite arbitrarily, focusing on the size of the pattern;
  • 4 rectangles 10x4-4.5 cm, cut random strips on one of the long sides, 1 cm of solid felt should remain on the other side.

Where to get a pattern for a costume and mask

You can create a pattern for a tiger costume yourself using any design method, and it will be based on a clothing pattern (for example, a jumpsuit and a hood, or a hat), but this will take quite a lot of time.

You can copy elements from a ready-made suit (for example, borrowed from a friend for a few days). Of course, to copy parts of the costume you will have to sit a little, but it will be a little faster than creating a pattern from scratch.

You can also purchase patterns online. Currently, there are many websites and online stores specializing in the sale of ready-made clothing patterns and accessories. This option will require minimal time investment. Plus, ready-made patterns usually come with a list of all the necessary materials and the manufacturing sequence, which, of course, helps to sew a suit much faster than if you had to figure everything out yourself, especially if you have very little experience in sewing.

DIY tiger cub costume for a baby (for kindergarten)

It is best to sew a tiger cub costume for a baby from materials with high hygienic and hygroscopic properties that do not cause allergic reactions and provide maximum comfort during operation. This could be, for example, a cotton jersey or thicker types of knitwear.

They can also be used for finishing (stripes, ears, cheeks, etc.), since this material does not crumble. In such a suit, the child will be comfortable, not hot, and at the same time he will look smart.

Another excellent material, although with lower hygienic properties, is plush. It is extremely soft, delicate and very beautiful. The baby simply won’t want to take off such a suit.

As for the design of the costume, if possible, it should be easy to put on and take off, because it is intended for a small child. Otherwise, everything depends on the technical capabilities and skills of the needlewoman who will make this costume.

DIY tiger costume for a school party

A tiger costume for older children can be made from any available materials, without regard to hygienic properties, and be more complex in design. And if you don’t have time to sew a full-fledged masquerade outfit, you can get out of the situation by adding a few characteristic elements to your existing clothes. For example, you can sew a tail to any overalls (trousers, yukka, etc.), wear an orange turtleneck, and in addition, sew a mask or hat with ears.

Body painting will also help to give the New Year's image a complete and harmonious look - a drawing of a tiger's face on the child's face, made with special paints, as well as gloves or textile mittens and a shirtfront made of white fur (the "breast" of a tiger). The choice of image in this case will depend not only on the capabilities and skills of the craftswoman, but also on the individual wishes of the little “tiger cub”, because this will not just be a carnival costume, in it he will appear before his peers at school, and therefore everything in his outfit must be he likes it.

Tiger costume. Option one.

We sew a jumpsuit using a pattern for a children's bodysuit - a little man.
If the overalls have a hood, then sew the ears onto it. We make the ears from four semicircles, line them with foam rubber or stuff them with cotton wool, and sew them to the hood. If the overalls have no ears, then we sew a hat according to the pattern of a child’s cap or like a helmet with a Velcro fastener under the chin.

We sew a tail from two long strips, insert wire inside and stuff it with cotton wool. You can line it with foam rubber and stitch it. Sew the tail to the overalls.

How to make a tiger costume for an adult

Sometimes it may be necessary to dress up an adult as a tiger, for example, for a carnival or a themed party. Then you can do exactly the same as with a costume for a child, i.e., choose a costume pattern, prepare all the necessary materials and tools, and sew the costume yourself.

Or you can save time and add some elements responsible for the “tiger” look and add them to existing traditional clothing (attach a tail, put on a headband or a hat with ears, etc.).

In a word, sewing a New Year's tiger costume is a very exciting and interesting activity. You can even do it with your children, and it will be just as fun as having fun on New Year’s holidays in your brand new tiger costume.
