Simple crochet pillows with tassels
Let's start with the simplest model, knitted by alternating rows with regular single crochets and half double crochets. This pillow looks very nice with tassels tied on it, and not along the perimeter, as we are used to doing, but in several rows on the front side.
I hope the brushes can do everything: you need to cut threads of the same length, twice the size of the brush. It's convenient to wrap them around a book.
Then we fold each in half and pull the middle with a hook through the warp loop, and tighten both ends of the thread into it.
The second option is made with a pattern with cones. These can be “popcorns”, or lush stitches, or several double crochets, knitted together – as you like.
They can be placed one above the other, or in a checkerboard pattern, and between them you can make one airy one, into which you can then knit a cone in the next row.
Do-it-yourself crochet pillow or buy?
The modern automated world allows you to completely get rid of routine and painstaking work. However, despite this, more and more often people are resorting to old crafts and techniques, creating unusually beautiful and high-quality things with their own hands. For many, handicrafts become an outlet and a kind of hobby.
Many learn on their own, but most often the basics are passed on from older generations. Along with knowledge of a particular technique, samples of finished work, materials, and sometimes entire secrets are also transmitted, which allow you to create entire masterpieces of home textiles, clothing and accessories.
A crocheted pillow can become the embodiment of your idea or fantasy. In addition, the finished work does not need to be left to gather dust, and it can become an excellent decoration in the house.
Such things speak for themselves: they are pleasing to the eye and positively demonstrate the skills of the housewife in front of her household and guests. Beautifully made pillows can always be complemented with a panel, blanket or bedspread knitted using the same technique or color scheme.
Crocheted pillows can be created either whole or from individual elements. The finished composition will have a more elegant and delicate shape. And knitted circles or squares sewn together will, on the contrary, add mischief and ease to any interior.
The main thing when making such beauty is to calculate its future use and location. So that the pillow fits well with the size of the bed, sofa or chair. And if possible, it went well with the upholstery or permanent bedspread on this furniture.
Knitting pattern for a colored pillow with cones
Such a beautiful pillow, also simple and also with bumps on the diagonal, and all its charm is in gentle colors that smoothly transform into each other.
If you knit a rectangular pillow, then you need to start from the narrow side.
Please note that the pattern uses double crochet stitches: yarn over, pull out the thread and pull through all 3 loops on the hook at the same time. This pattern looks even more interesting.
In general, I really like this element, we already had other beautiful models with it: a pillow made of squares and a pillow with a diamond pattern, and there will be more diagrams below.
Napkin pillows
If you have round-shaped sofa cushions, you can use the patterns of standard round-shaped napkins. Here, two napkins are also knitted, and when sewing, an additional zipper is used. You can resort to a complete transformation and additionally sew a “lining” onto the pillow, which will be in a contrasting color, which will give the product individuality, because the openwork will stand out against a plain background.
Some particularly enterprising craftswomen completely replace outdated products with new ones. They simply rip out old sofa cushions and use the filling further. They also knit pillows in the form of a napkin, combine them with a plain background and shape them using the same filler.
Below is a selection of such products with detailed patterns for knitting yourself.
Beautiful square pillow
Take a closer look at this design; at first glance, the pillow does not seem very expressive, but in fact it is wonderful: an openwork pattern with diagonal braids and such a beautiful simple mesh on the sides, framed by “popcorns” - I really like it! If you also take thicker threads and choose a bright color, although a muted one will be beautiful, it all depends on tastes and the interior.
The pillow is knitted from the center in the round, so it will be perfectly square.
The last row is decorated with picot elements.

How to knit a pillow cover with popcorn elements
Many people have probably seen this beauty on the YouTube channel; the number of views has already exceeded a million. And I also tried to knit, but didn’t finish, because it turned out that the yarn was crucial here, and the one I chose didn’t fit.
This motif was chosen as a pattern, in the center you get a “pineapple” pattern, but then instead of single crochet stitches you need to knit “popcorns”, then you will get such a beautiful voluminous effect.
From Alize yarn (100g/330m), my cover turned out to be too small, so I need quite thick and beautiful threads: perhaps knitted or the same acrylic, but in two or even three folds, in general you need to experiment.
But you can also adapt a small motif by sewing it on top of a fabric cover, as in the photo, which is also beautiful.
And a blanket made from such motifs looks simply gorgeous!
Pillow toys for adults
As we mentioned earlier, adults also delight in original and eye-catching knitted pillows. This item is especially popular among lovers. Therefore, heart-shaped pillows are in great demand. They are not difficult to perform at all. Especially thanks to the detailed and simple diagrams that we invite our reader to study further.
A bolder, but also original option for “clothing” for a pillow is a chest pillowcase. Of course, such a product looks extravagant. However, as soon as it appeared, not only needlewomen, but also buyers immediately liked it. Most often, this model of the product being studied is given to best friends and male acquaintances. Experienced needlewomen note that it is popular not only because it looks interesting in any interior. And also because it fits perfectly to the shape of the head, providing convenient and comfortable rest.
It is important to note that even novice craftsmen will be able to crochet an original pillowcase. The diagram and description of the sequence of actions proposed below will help you avoid confusion and successfully complete the task:
- First of all, we knit two rectangular fabrics from yarn, the color of which closely resembles the shade of human skin.
- We sew the parts on three sides, stuff and finish the fourth.
- We close it in a ring.
- We knit three rows, moving in a spiral.
- Then we knit three new ones from each loop. There should be nine loops in total.
- We knit two more rows, forming an even circle.
- We again take flesh-colored yarn and knit two rows without making any additions.
- In the next five rows we add new loops at intervals of one single crochet.
- Next we knit seven rows without making any additions.
- It is recommended to record all your actions. After all, by analogy you will have to knit the second part.
- We stuff the breasts and sew them to the base.
- Finally, we complement the original pillow with a bra to make it look less provocative.
So we figured out how to make different types of crocheted pillowcases. We presented diagrams of the most interesting options in the article. We hope they will help readers make an original and interesting thing with their own hands.
Pondoland pattern for knitting a pillow
An incredibly beautiful floral pattern called Pondoland Square created by designer Jen Tyler.
It can be made in any color and will be gorgeous!
It is suggested to use acrylic; you will need a 50 gram skein of each color. There are a total of 12 tones in this model: four basic and three different shades for each. You will need a hook number 4.
During the knitting process, the fabric will not be even, sometimes convex, sometimes concave, but this is natural due to the complex techniques and relief elements used. At the end of the work, the motif needs to be stretched, secured with pins and sprinkled with water.
Unfortunately, there is no diagram, only a description of the work from the author, it is quite large, so I did not copy it for myself, but left a link where you can look.

Gradient pillow
Fashionable gradient knitting - a smooth transition from one color to another - has become very popular. People create such beautiful things: hats, scarves, and pullovers. So the photo of a pillow I saw on the net hooked me so much that I even knitted the pillow while I was preparing this material.
For a gradient, several colors are used: at least three, but the more tones there are, the better and softer the transition, while in one row two threads of different colors or melange yarn are usually used at once.
When crocheting, this is not necessary; the effect is achieved thanks to the embossed columns, which are knitted in a row below.
And although the pillow diagram is quite detailed, there may be some unclear points, which I will explain.
At the beginning of knitting, the petals in the flower are knitted like this: 1C1H, 12H in the previous row, 1C1H.
The main pattern of the pillow: 1С1Н, 1РС2Н (embossed under the leg of the column of the previous row), 1С1Н according to the type of granny square, i.e. Double crochet stitches need to be crocheted by inserting the crochet hook into the gap between the stitches of the previous row.
You can knit the entire pillow with this pattern without bothering with the “tails”, it will also be beautiful. But let's go further, so that the square turns diagonally, after the 15th row we use the refined patterns located on top.
Now we will knit in single crochet stitches, and in the center of the sides we will gradually add the main pattern with a relief stitch. Thus, the corners will stretch and we will get a more or less even line, and the middle part of the side will turn into a corner.
In the third (last) part, where there is a new numbering from the 1st row, between the corner and the main pattern on the right you need to knit: 2PS1N (half double crochet) and 1S1N, on the left also in a mirror image: 1S1N, 2PSN. At the same time, row from row they shift by one loop due to the appearance of a new main pattern, and the number of RLS will decrease.
My master class in video format is ready.
How to crochet a square
Experienced craftsmen say that to crochet a square pillowcase, you need to follow the following procedure:
- We knit a chain of eight loops.
- We close it in a ring.
- Next we knit, moving in a circle.
- In the first case, we lift the loops of the previous row, knitting them, and make two air ones, forming the corner of the square.
- In the second we act differently. We lift the loops of the previous row, and at the corner we knit two stitches. Depending on the pattern, these can be single crochets or double crochets.
- Whatever technology the reader prefers, he will still increase the side of the square by two loops with each subsequent row.
Geometric pillow
Another colorful, bright pillow with an interesting geometric pattern. The pattern itself is not complicated.
As we can see in the diagram, it consists of simple small squares connected in just two rows.
But then, when tying them around the perimeter, they will somehow connect to each other.
Since the motifs are located in the corners so that some of them extend beyond the large square in the center, a geometric effect is created through the use of different colors.
Step-by-step knitting patterns are given, but I still haven’t figured out how the motifs are connected, I still have to try knitting.
Curvy pillows
When standard shapes get boring, it is recommended to knit curvy analogues. In order not to waste a lot of time on complex variations, it is enough to simply resort to simple geometric shapes. For example, you can knit a star or a hexagon. If you want and need to knit the cover along the seams, it is better to make fasteners with buttons - this will greatly simplify the process of sewing a zipper into the figured edge.Next, we also offer a selection of figured pillows with knitting patterns. Some of them will allow you to knit a denser fabric, through which the background lining will not be visible. Others, on the contrary, offer an openwork figure, which is advantageous and softly suitable for a certain interior.
Beautiful pattern for a knitted pillow
Some people prefer plain pillows, but for you there is another option for a beautiful model. I like that it is not tied with motifs, but in the form of a large square from the center. There are no difficulties or complex elements.
This pillow is good in pastel colors - pink, blue, white.
Large circles in the diagram indicate the elements “popcorn” or lush columns can be made, in the border there are small round circles - this is a picot of 4 air loops.
Pillowcases with “African flower”
If the previous pattern seems boring and ordinary, we offer a different version of the pillowcase for the sofa cushion. The crochet pattern is very easy to do. But the motif is more suitable for creating hexagonal or round pillows. Most often it is made from leftover yarn, creating original colorful pillowcases. But if you wish, you can limit yourself to two or three shades that correspond to the main colors of the interior. And then you can make the room more comfortable in a high-tech or minimalist style.
Crochet aranami pillows
This model appears to have appeared quite recently. The aran pattern can be knitted not only with knitting needles, but also with crochet, as you can see. Moreover, it’s kind of confusing here, but it’s also more interesting and effective.
This is how it is obtained when knitting with embossed stitches: knit stitches (in the designation a hook with a convex side turned to the right) - insert the hook under the leg of the stitch from front to back; purl (designation with the convex side facing left) - insert the hook from back to front.
Crochet openwork pillowcase: simple and beautiful patterns
You can fill the pillow with unnecessary fabric or buy filler. Round openwork patterns are great for pillowcases. The result is an exclusive little thing that will fit on the living room sofa or become a soft seat for a chair.
To knit the next openwork miracle you will need 100 g of any yarn you like and a suitable hook.
The diameter of the product depends on the thickness of the threads and hook!
How to crochet a pillowcase for a small pillow
The upper part is knitted with an openwork motif, and the lower part - RLS.
Top part
So, let's get started, make a chain of 6 VPs, close with a connecting column (CC).
- 1 row. 4 VP, *1 DC in the ring + 1 VP* repeat 12 times, 1 DC.
- 2nd row. 4 VP, 1 VP in the first VP + 1 VP, * 2 VP in the column of the previous row (PR), between them one VP + 1 VP above VP PR* 12 times, SS.
- 3rd row. 3 runways, 1 dc from VP PR, 1 dc in the next column PR, 1 VP, * 1 dc in the PR column, 1 dc in the arch, 1 dc in the column, 1 VP * 12 times, SS.
- 4 row. 3 runways, 2 dc in one column of the previous row, 1 dc in the dc PR, 2 VP, * 1 dc in the PR column, 2 dc in the PR column, 1 dc in the PR column, 2 VP* 12 times, SS.
- 5 row. 3 runways, 1 dc in PR column, 2 dc in PR column, 1 dc in PR column, 3 VP, *1 dc in PR column, 1 dc in PR column, 2 PR columns, 1 PR column, 3 VP * 12 times, SS.
From rows 6 to 16 we continue to work according to the pattern.
Bottom part
It knits much easier! We cast on 6 VP, close it in a ring, then knit a sc, adding 6 sc in each row. 25 rows should be enough.
Then we sew both parts of the sc, leaving room for a button or zipper. At the end, I recommend making 5-6 rows of openwork border. This is how the product takes on a finished look.
Square knitted pillow with floral pattern
Again, a square pillow, I assume that you need threads that are not thin, so that the pattern is not small, but large and convex.
The diagram, however, is ugly, drawn by the author by hand, and passed from hand to hand many times)). But you can figure it out, slowly and slowly, from row to row.
Taking measurements from the pillow
If the reader wants to knit a square pillowcase according to all the rules, you must first measure the pillow. To do this, take a measuring tape and use it to determine the length of one side. This way we know the number of loops we should arrive at. It is not difficult to calculate the rows for increases. You just need to divide the length of the side by two. To find out how many loops need to be added in each row, you should subtract the initial two from the total number of loops. And divide the resulting value into rows separating the center from the sides.
Peacock Eye Pillow
This cheerful cover is knitted again with colored threads from motifs, the pattern of which resembles the eyes of a peacock on its feathers.
The motifs are simple, but they are located diagonally to each other, so you will have to knit several halves to form a square from them.
To do this, attach a ruler to the diagram so that it divides it into two equal parts, and knit in rotating rows.
What types of cat-shaped knitted pillows are there?
The shapes and sizes of cat pillows depend on their purpose.
What are they like:
- Cushion cushion. It looks like a thick “sausage” that can be placed under the lower back to make it more comfortable to sit. These pillows are also used to cover the space between the child’s mattress and the wall so that the baby’s arms and legs do not get stuck. Some craftswomen knit long and narrow rollers in the shape of cats, and lay them on the windowsill to cover the cracks from which cold air blows in in winter.
- Travel cat pillow. It looks like a “sausage” rolled into an arc. This type of pillow is placed under the neck to make dozing in a sitting position more comfortable. The product is compact, so you can take it with you on trips and use it in airplanes or cars.
- Scops owl pillow. Outwardly it resembles a medium-sized flat soft toy. Such pillows are knitted for children so that they can take a soft kitten with them to bed. The flat shape of this pillow allows you to put it under your head and hug it with your arms. Such products are knitted from smooth and soft threads and also decorated with embroidery.
- Seat cushion. Similar to Scops Owl, but thinner and wider. These pillows are used as a backing when you have to sit on a hard surface for a long time. The decor of such products should be soft and flat so that nothing interferes with sitting comfortably.
- Decorative cat pillow. These products can be of any shape and size. They are intended for interior decoration, so voluminous beads and other solid elements can be used as decoration.
You can knit cat pillows from any soft yarn. It is not recommended to use coarse and prickly threads, as they feel unpleasant on the skin. Moreover, you should not knit scops owl pillows for children from such yarn. It is better to use plush, acrylic, wool and knitwear.
Video on how to knit the Polish Star pattern for a pillow
A beautiful pillow, but you have no idea how easy it is to knit it!
This picture from a magazine with a description in a foreign language has been on my computer for a long time. They just can’t get around to bringing it to life. But the masters have already posted their lessons on YouTube and you can watch a video on how to knit a pattern called “Polish Star”.

Knitted pillow - sheep. Anna's work
Hello! My name is Anna. I really love crocheting children's (and not only) toys. As a gift for the New Year 2015, I knitted this pillow toy for my eldest daughter. In this case, it's a pajama cover.
The body is knitted with needles No. 6 from “Grass” yarn in the form of a tube. It is convenient because the fabric stretches. The remaining parts of the body are crocheted No. 3.5 from acrylic yarn. As a filler I used a special filler for toys. The muzzle is embroidered.
The back of the toy is tied with a satin ribbon so that the cover can be tied. The description was found on the Internet, taken from some Japanese magazine, apparently. Not everything was clear, so during the work I constantly had to redo and adjust something, so... probably the toy was already original.
