Making a cover for skewers with your own hands and options from the store

Size, shape and material

First of all, you should decide on the size of the bag. It should accommodate a barbecue grill, barbecue grill, skewers, a knife, matches, and kindling materials. In any case, you should proceed from the dimensions of the structure. Similar products can be found on sale, but a DIY grill cover is more economical. In addition, it is possible to choose the desired shape and size, and equip the bag with the necessary accessories (pockets, additional compartments).

Unless you have any special preferences, it is better to choose the simplest shape - rectangular or square. This barbecue bag is the most functional, and even an inexperienced craftsman can sew the product. The round shape is considered a little more complex. The handle should be made of dense materials that can withstand heavy weight. It is advisable to take care of the harness with which the product is hung on the shoulder.

This DIY barbecue bag is made from durable and reliable fabrics. They must withstand heavy loads and be dense enough not to be scratched by sharp elements. Synthetic fabrics, from which various camping equipment is usually made, are suitable here. To give the bag some originality, you can add leather inserts and pockets. You can choose any color, but it is better to prefer dark colors - black, brown, khaki.

Sizes and patterns of covers

Pattern with dimensions

To create a pattern, you need to measure the grill when folded. Measurements are taken in three parameters: length, width, height. If you have construction experience, you can make the pattern yourself. The standard rectangular or square shape is taken as a basis. If you lack experience in creating patterns, options can be found on the Internet. A good pattern will guarantee a perfect end result.

Stages of work

So, first we decide on the size and shape of the product. Here you need to proceed, first of all, from the dimensions of the barbecue. You should also consider whether the bag will be used for other purposes. In this case, it needs to be made more universal.

At the next stage, product patterns are created. Experienced craftsmen can do them themselves. For beginners, it is better to purchase ready-made ones in a store or use the Internet. Next, we proceed to making the pattern itself. The outlines of the elements of the future bag are drawn onto a sheet of paper. Then they are cut out with scissors.

We prepare the necessary tools and materials. You purchase strong, durable and aesthetic fabric that can last for many years. You will also need a sewing needle, strong thread, and scissors. We apply the pattern elements to a piece of fabric and outline it with chalk. Then you need to cut them out with scissors. If the product has a lining, the same actions must be performed with the lining fabric. The details of the future bag are sewn together with the lining by hand.

Now we sew all the resulting elements together. This can be done either manually or using a sewing machine. At the next stage we make the handle, harness and pockets. We firmly sew them to the finished bag. You can decorate the product with elements made of leather or metal, rhinestones, bows. It all depends on your imagination.

Sequence of work

They begin work by cutting out the product. Lay out the patterns on a large piece of fabric and trace each detail with chalk or a simple pencil, not forgetting about seam allowances. The parts are cut out along the drawn lines.

If the cover has a lining, then all the details are duplicated from the lining fabric. An ordinary kitchen oilcloth can serve as a lining. It is practical to use and can be easily washed from grease and dirt.

Next we start sewing the bag. First, pockets, straps, fasteners and straps are sewn into place. Then all the cut out parts are stitched together in a certain sequence. The easiest way to sew together pinned parts is with a sewing machine. But for reliability, you can manually stitch the parts with double thread.

Advice: there is no need to further decorate the grill cover. This item should be easy to carry and wash. Excess elements will collect dust and dirt, and over time they will look untidy.

Summary

: Now you know how to sew a cover. If you make it yourself, the product will fully correspond to the dimensions of your barbecue. All work will require a minimum of money, because the cover can be made entirely from scrap materials.

Any person in his free time strives to replenish his strength and impressions. I want to devote a lot of time to hobbies. Everyone in the family may have a favorite pastime - reading, designing, sewing, photography, fishing, hunting. You need to learn how to relax and take into account age interests. Psychologists recommend including children in all types of family leisure. Parents' passion is passed on to children. The main parental duty is to pass on knowledge, skills, cultural and moral values to their daughters and sons. We must teach the child to invent, fantasize, and create. Bringing joy to each other is the most important rule of the family.

A beautiful case for skewers is a must-have item for every family.

It's nice when a simple thing is made with love and decorated with the help of children. This can be considered a pleasant and sensible leisure time on weekdays, and on weekends the whole family will admire a simple craft.

To work, you need to prepare a material for external finishing - preferably strong, dense. The inner part is made of oilcloth - it does not allow moisture to pass through, is easy to clean, and will not tear from the sharp ends of skewers. To decorate the case, you can choose any subject - it could be vegetables on a dish, a beautiful chef’s hat, a stylized pig, or a lamb. Showing your imagination in this matter is not at all difficult.

Having chosen the fabric, you need to cut out the shape. A trim is formed on a section of the outer cover and sewn on by hand using a sewing machine. Whoever likes it. It is stitched on three sides. The inner cover made of oilcloth is cut out to be slightly smaller in size, but longer in height - to create a lapel. This will protect the outer cover from grease stains and soot, which may be from insufficiently washed skewers.

Containers for skewers

Skewers should be given special attention when going on a picnic. In fact, they are piercing weapons that can puncture a bag and even injure a person. Therefore, you should make a special case for the skewers from thick fabric or leather. Separately, it is necessary to strengthen the bottom of the bag, where the sharp parts will be located.

Here you can go the traditional route: select the appropriate material, make patterns, cut out all the elements of the product and sequentially sew them together. But craftsmen offer an original option for creating a cover for skewers from simple plastic bottles.

Convenient case for carrying the barbecue: we do it ourselves

It’s good when you have a folding grill for picnics and outings. It’s even better when this grill is packed in a neat bag or case. The car interior will remain clean, and all fire equipment will be transported in one place.

It’s easy to sew a bag for the barbecue yourself; a special case made from scrap materials is also a good option. We will tell you about all this in detail.

Why do you need a cover?

The design of the cover can be very multifunctional, suitable for weekend hikes, trips to the country and on a picnic. The case can contain:

  • barbecue;
  • required number of skewers;
  • barbecue grill;
  • tripod or taganok for pots;
  • matches, knife, lighter and other necessary little things.

The sizes of the covers are large, medium and small. A specific choice of dimensions depends on the size of the barbecue and the presence of additional sections. Products that have handles for carrying and also have a belt are considered optimal. With its help, the bag is carried on the shoulder. For small items, additional pockets are sewn on the sides and inside.

Please note: the grill should be easy to fit and remove from the bag. The straps and fasteners can be unfastened freely, without getting tangled with each other.

What materials are used?

Bags made of thick fabric are the most in demand because they are the easiest to sew. But craftsmen manage to make cases from various available materials:

  • sheets of plastic and aluminum;
  • old dermantine briefcases;
  • tarpaulin (old canvas backpacks);
  • gabardine (aviazent).

How to sew a case with your own hands?

If you plan to sew the product yourself, then it is advisable to choose a fabric that is not easily soiled and durable. In addition, the material should be easy to clean and wash.

Ideal options include aviazent or gabardine. Technical fabrics, for example, with PVC coating, have also proven themselves well.

Important: fabrics with a waterproof PVC layer are difficult to sew on a regular sewing machine. But the finished product will be dense and will last for many years. In such a case, if necessary, you can transport dirty shoes and wet clothes, a bag of coal.

Needlewomen manage to sew bucket bags from one pair of old, worn jeans. In this case, you don’t have to bother with pockets; denim ones will do. They will fit matches, a lighter, and wet wipes.

So, we choose durable fabric, dark, non-staining colors. Tools you will need are needles, chopping pins, and scissors. Don’t forget about the accessories: buckles, straps, zippers, cord with clamps, contact tape (Velcro).

What to make the case from?

There are not many materials available for creating a case. The most practical ones include:

  • Leather, natural or dermantine. The product will turn out to be solid; if desired, you can style it as a diplomat bag, fashionable in the 80s of the last century. For greater authenticity, locks and fasteners from used bags, briefcases, and backpacks are used as accessories. Metal corners will add rigidity to the product.
  • Plastic. To form the case, scraps of plastic panels that remain after the repair are used. The work is not difficult for skilled hands, but special equipment may be required to connect individual plastic elements. The disadvantage of a plastic case is considered to be the rigidity of the structure.
  • Textile. If all the fabric parts are duplicated with corrugated cardboard and lining fabric, you will get a fairly voluminous and at the same time rigid structure.

Sizes and patterns of covers

To create a pattern, you need to measure the grill when folded. Measurements are taken in three parameters: length, width, height. If you have construction experience, you can make the pattern yourself. The standard rectangular or square shape is taken as a basis. If you lack experience in creating patterns, options can be found on the Internet. A good pattern will guarantee a perfect end result.

Types of covers and cases for skewers

The most common and easiest to manufacture are rectangular shapes. Complex ones are round cases and tubes. A variety of pockets and stripes will add individuality to the case.

Cases are made of durable fabric, leather or plastic. When choosing the color of a product, preference is given to dark, non-staining tones: blue, green, brown or black. Wicker handles and leather inserts will add originality.

Sizes and patterns of fabric covers for skewers

To correctly calculate the amount of material, determine the size of the product. To do this, collect the skewers in a bunch and measure the circumference at the tips and handles. It is determined that in addition to skewers, scissors, a knife and spoons with forks need to be placed in the case. Depending on the content, the pattern of the cover will become more complicated.

If the case accommodates not only skewers, but also, for example, a barbecue grill, choose a square or rectangular shape

Multifunctional bags are offered by many manufacturers of leisure goods. Covers for skewers are sewn by hand according to photo instructions.

When choosing materials, preference is given to denim, canvas and thick synthetic fabrics

To prevent the sharp tips of the skewers from damaging or piercing the cover, the bottom is reinforced with plastic bottles or cans. Having chosen the shape of the product, its content and dimensions, we begin to create a pattern.

Experienced craftsmen can cut a product without resorting to paper diagrams, directly on the fabric

What led to the creation of this accessory was that I was tired of the fan of skewers in the stowed position.)) A plastic pipe 500 mm long, a coupling, and two plugs were used in the production. All with a 50mm cross section. I made holes in one of the plugs for ventilation. The rest can be seen from the photo. Now everything is neat and beautiful!

Comments 121

It's brilliant how simple it is! We need to make the same one

I store mine in a tube made from under a tint film, and here it is. Class!

I made something similar from a piece of cable duct

Brilliant! Urgently go to the store, otherwise I’ve already splurged on the bags...

Patent your invention urgently!

Genius, prize for the studio)))) I ran to the store to buy a pipe and make the same thing

In the bottom plug, cut some thread and put it in. Otherwise you sew it with skewers!)))

I'll buy a new one, only 12 rubles)))

I have two layers of rough linoleum, they hold up even when thrown with a gas key.

the main thing is not to forget that they are there))) ATO IN THE TRASH as you throw away the remains

Cool idea, there were just some pipes left (I redid the sewer system in the apartment).

SUPER! and most importantly how simple it is

I store the electrodes this way

And I spinning rods, electrodes and skewers

I’ve been using a tube in this configuration for a long time, only without ventilation holes. The handle can be made removable. Clips for the same pipe are perfect for this. I attached them to the walls in the garage and at the dacha, and the tube sits perfectly in its place even with the clip fasteners sawed off.

I rarely use it, I mostly fry meat on the grill.

Cool, but by the word coupling, I would add “repair”)))

Wow, I definitely need to do it)

Student tube. 100 rubles in stationery, extends to any length of skewers. I've been using it for a long time. ))

and wrap it with rope)))

Not hygienic)) After the picnic, put a few drops of fairy and boiling water in a tube with skewers - chat, rinse and everything is as good as new, until next time.

You can wash the skewers first. And you don’t need to wet the outside of the tube/case when washing it.

What materials are best to use

You can sew a quiver for skewers yourself. To do this, select reliable and dense fabric. Preference is given to synthetic materials for hiking equipment.

Experts highlight the most practical:

  • natural or artificial leather can withstand loads, the material is durable and practical, does not wear out for a long time, the product has an attractive appearance;
  • dense denim, canvas, synthetic fabrics, additionally backed with hard material that holds its shape and does not allow skewers to pierce the bottom, look voluminous and neat;
  • plastic pipes left over after construction or repairs will help create a practical tube; if necessary, it can be lined with various decorative materials that are resistant to abrasion;
  • the handles and harness are made of belts or thick cords that can withstand a lot of weight.

We sew a barbecue bag quickly and easily with our own hands: parameters

In general, a bag-case should be quite spacious and multifunctional. Such accessories can be purchased in stores, but the cost is quite high. Therefore, the best option would be to sew the bag yourself. Let's look at what sizes they come in.

Depending on the required parameters, there are several types of barbecue bags:

The choice of a specific size depends entirely on the number of items that will fit in the bag each time you go on a hike. The most convenient accessories are those that are equipped with both handles and a harness, thanks to which it is convenient to carry the item on the shoulder. The barbecue cover can be equipped with pockets, compartments, and loops for fastening, which will help fix everything you need in one position.

There are even bags with a compartment for a tent, but they are designed for active and regular recreation.

Before you start making a bag, you need to decide on the choice of material from which it will be made. The most common option is fabric. You need to choose it based on strength to ensure reliability. It will not be easy to sew, because special patterns are used in which all parameters and dimensions are observed and taken into account. It is advisable to choose a dark color so that dirt, which is inevitable in nature, is not visible.

A bag made of leather requires the same complex patterns as those made of fabric. But it will be of higher quality, and due to the material, it will also be interesting.

You can make a case bag out of metal. But it is done extremely rarely, because the material is specific and difficult to process. The product is also quite heavy, making it difficult to transport.

Another material for making the case is plastic. It ensures low weight of the product. Working with plastic is easy, you just need to purchase special equipment. It is worth considering that the case will not be flexible.

Of all the materials considered, durable fabric is ideal for the product. It is easy to repair and wash, and does not require special equipment for production.

The process of making a bag.

First of all, you should decide on the desired size and material from which the bag will be made. If you have no experience in this matter, then first it is better to choose a simple shape, for example, rectangular or round. In this case, the material should also be accessible and not require special skills. This is what fabric is.

After this, you need to build or buy a pattern. The choice of its design is determined by taking into account all needs. Whether there will be pockets, additional compartments, whether only the barbecue will be carried or other devices - all this should be taken into account. Here is one of the pattern options:

If there is lining fabric in the product, it must be sewn to the main fabric by hand. The next step is to sew all the parts together; you can use a sewing machine for this. When the main part is sewn, we begin to design handles, harnesses, pockets and other elements from leftover fabric.

You can also decorate this accessory using various techniques, but often this is not done.

How to sew a cover for skewers from old jeans with your own hands

Jeans is a non-staining, dense material. Every housewife has a pair of old jeans in her house. The material is perfect for making a cover for skewers with your own hands.

Step-by-step instructions for making a case:

  1. The skewers are collected and tied with twine or tied with an elastic band at the bottom and top. Using a centimeter, measure the circumference at the ends and handles. Add 3-4 cm to the resulting value. 1 cm for the hem and 1-2 cm for the free movement of the skewers.
  2. A sketch of the cover is applied to the paper.
  3. Jeans are ripped along the inner or outer seam. The dimensions are drawn on paper, taking into account seam allowances and backlash. Cut out and apply to the wrong side of the material. Markings are made with chalk or pencil. Using scissors, carefully cut the workpiece along the line.

    To make the case decorative, the pocket and belt loops are torn off from the jeans and sewn to the cut piece.

  4. Step back 3 cm from the edges in each direction and make loops for threading the cord.

    The loops are made 1 cm long, the cut is sewn on a machine or by hand

  5. The upper part is folded in by 2 cm. To prevent the fabric from fraying, hem it inward by 0.5 cm.

    Perform stitching on a sewing machine with a stitch length of 2 mm

  6. From the remains of the trouser leg, cut out a strip 6 cm wide. Fold it in half lengthwise and sew it on the wrong side. Using a thin ruler, turn the handle right side out. Smooth the workpiece.

    Stitches are made on a sewing machine and the handle is sewn to the cover part.

  7. Using a sewing machine, place the final stitch along the side seam. The stitching is done using an overlocker or a zig-zag seam. Carefully iron the product using an iron with a steam function.
  8. A cord is inserted into the holes. Thread the fasteners. Regular shoelaces with tips are suitable for ties.
  9. A plastic bottle or tin can is selected according to the diameter of the case. Cut off the neck and insert it into the bottom of the case.

    Skewers are placed in the finished case and tied

Sometimes it becomes necessary to sew a case for skewers with wooden handles. For this purpose, a case is made in the shape of a quiver or case. The skewers are laid out at intervals of 1-1.5 cm. The width is measured at the top and bottom, and the length is measured. Two blanks are cut out from dense synthetic fabric for tourist equipment. The second one is made 20 cm longer to get a lid.

A zipper is sewn into the homemade case along the edge for ease of use; if necessary, 1-2 more compartments are made inside

How to sew a cover for skewers from leather with your own hands

A rectangular case or quiver is made from leather. A pattern for a leather cover for skewers is cut out of paper with your own hands and applied to the material from the wrong side.

The order of work is as follows:

  1. Find out the dimensions of the case. To do this, lay out the skewers in a checkerboard pattern 1-1.5 cm apart. Measurements are taken. To the resulting value add 6 cm for indentations at the edges and 2 cm in the middle.

    Add 3 cm to the resulting length on each side, for a total of 6 cm

  2. Cut out two strips of leather 4-5 cm wide and a length equal to the width of the cover. Measure the width of the skewer and add 4 mm to the resulting value. Markings are made on the strip. They retreat 2 cm from the edges, and also make a 2 cm gap in the center. Measure the handle. The stripes are sewn according to the markings, leaving a distance equal to the length of the handle plus 3 cm.
  3. Three strips 2-3 cm wide are cut out of leather. The length of the first is equal to the length of the handle. The length of the other two is equal to the width + 15 cm for ties. Sew on the ties and handle. The front side is decorated with stripes of contrasting colors and pockets. A buckle is attached to the belts; if necessary, a belt loop 1 cm wide is sewn on to secure the ties.

Case for skewers. Master Class

Hectic preparations will turn into pleasure if you prepare for them in detail. After all, it’s convenient when every thing is mobile, has its own place and is always at hand.

I will make a cover for these skewers. I have 22 of them))

I take my old jeans

I cut off one pant leg (before this I measured it according to the length of the skewers, maybe I don’t need the whole pant leg)

I cut one seam at a time (along the outer one where there is a double outer stitch) and cut off this seam

For beauty, I cut off a back pocket with a supply of fabric. I fold this supply of fabric once and iron it

I attach this pocket to one of the sides and this is what I get

At the top of the cover we make a fold of fabric for the lace

We cut off the second side and get this cover))

For the lace, I make two cuts on both sides, I overcast them

I inserted two laces and stoppers to tighten the cover.

Take another piece of fabric for the handle (the length you like)

I folded both sides inward towards the center and then folded it in half and stitched

I attached the handle to the cover using squares of fabric. I didn’t photograph the squares separately ((, I think it’s clear from the photo

Place the skewers in the case

HOORAY! The cover is ready, you can go to the barbecue))))

PS: My mistake was with the handle, it’s better to attach it when the cover is not stitched yet))))

Thank you for stopping by. I think my MK will be useful to someone, I will be very glad to see repetitions

We protect ourselves from the sharp ends of skewers.

The PET plastic of the bottle and its cap is very strong and durable. The sharp end of the skewer can only pierce it with significant pressure. Therefore, a case made of plastic bottles can be considered suitable for these purposes, especially since the time spent on making a tie and a tube from plastic bottles does not exceed half an hour.

Materials and tools

1. Plastic bottles 0.5 l in quantities up to 7 pcs. of the same shape with a cylindrical part in the middle and sockets on both sides of this part ().

4. Elastic band (from panties), about 20 cm.

You can provide protection from the sharp ends of skewers in several ways, for example, an open (screed) method and a closed method (tube).

To protect against the sharp ends of the skewers, the second neck of the plastic bottle in the screed system should have a screwed cap. The ends of the skewers rest against the lid. The application of such a simple screed is as follows:

1. The skewers are collected into a bunch, so that the sharp ends are located at the same level ().

2. The first neck part of the plastic bottle is pulled onto the bundle of skewers from the sharp ends to a length of about 10cm.

3. The ends of the bundle of skewers are installed in the second neck of a plastic bottle with a screwed cap ().

4. The first neck part slides onto the bundle of skewers to the side ().

How to make a tube for skewers from PVC pipe with your own hands

For safe transportation and storage, make the tube yourself. The materials used are a sewer water pipe with a diameter of 10 cm and two plugs for it, a handle for the tube and lid, and self-tapping screws. Stages of making a case for skewers with your own hands:

  1. Measure the length of the skewers. Add 5 cm to the resulting value and cut off a piece of pipe.

    If you plan to decorate the front part, prepare material or paint

  2. The first plug is attached to the underside of the skewers tube. Using a screwdriver, fasten the parts with self-tapping screws
  3. A mushroom-shaped handle with a cap is attached to the center of the plug. A handle for transportation is attached to the center of the pipe on one side. If necessary, to ensure a tight fit of the lid, put a rubber seal on the plug.

    The tube is painted with acrylic paint to match the handles

Mobile organizer for skewers.

With frequent trips to nature, it may not be very convenient to transport skewers for barbecue. Although many people use special grates, my family and I like to do it the old fashioned way, holding a skewer in our hand and enjoying a juicy kebab. I used to always wrap them either in a bag or in a newspaper, but not so long ago I spotted a convenient organizer and decided to make one.

All that was needed was a piece of sewer pipe, a plug for it, and a couple of old handles. If you want to make a poker, then additionally a piece of smooth reinforcement, 15 cm of PVC pipe, 2 plugs for the pipe and a couple of fasteners.

One handle is attached with self-tapping screws directly to the pipe, the second to the removable cover. We seal the bottom of the sewer pipe with a piece of plywood or other material that is at hand. We bend a poker from the reinforcement and make a handle. Having drilled a couple of holes in the plugs, insert the base, you can sprinkle polyurethane foam inside and plug it. A very convenient tube for skewers came out, by the way, I got the idea to make one just like it with a belt for welding electrodes, I think it will be very convenient.

How to make a case for skewers from wood with your own hands

To make the case, you will need plywood with a thickness of 0.5 cm and a beam with a cross-section of 1.5 cm. In addition to the material, prepare a screwdriver and wood screws. To make a wooden handle, you will need two pieces of board 1.5 cm thick, 6 cm wide and 15 cm long. Step-by-step recommendations for making a case for skewers from wood with your own hands:

  1. The skewers are divided into two equal parts and half are laid out on the table in a checkerboard pattern in 1 cm increments. The width and length are measured. Add 5 cm to the resulting values.

    The necessary parts are cut out of plywood and timber

  2. The sides are nailed from pieces of timber to the plywood using secret nails 1.5 cm long.

    The parts are nailed with a hammer from the front side

  3. The elements of the case are carefully sanded using sandpaper. A decorative image is applied to the front and inside sides. The parts are fastened using 5 cm hinged loops
  4. To keep the skewers firmly in the case, clamps are made from slats 0.5 cm thick, 1 cm wide and a length equal to the internal width of the case. Holes 3-4 mm wide are made in increments of 1.5 cm. Fasteners are attached inside the case on each side
  5. Two handles are turned from wooden blanks. They are attached to the doors in the center of the end sides using self-tapping screws. The case is coated with decorative oil on wood.

Do it yourself

Made from fabric (jeans)

Jeans or durable synthetic fabrics for tourism are ideal for making a high-quality case. You can sew a tote bag for a trip to the forest. It should fit a folding grill and skewers, as well as a knife and materials for starting a fire.

You can make additional compartments and pockets. The easiest way to sew a rectangular or square case. This bag is more functional. Even an inexperienced craftsman can sew it.

Making a round fabric bag with a handle made of thick material is a little more difficult. This fabric item can withstand a lot of weight.

To make an original bag, complement it with leather and fabric pockets made of another material. It is better to choose the color of the main fabric dark blue, brown, khaki or black.

If you place corrugated cardboard or lining under the fabric, you get a voluminous and rigid structure. The most commonly used fabrics are tarpaulin (from old backpacks), gabardine, dermantine (from old briefcases), as well as technical fabrics with PVC coating.

You may still have various materials left after the renovation. Consider using them for a makeshift case.

Let's start creating the case.

It is necessary to prepare materials for external finishing. It’s good if they are strong and dense. The inner lining can also consist of table oilcloth, which is waterproof, washes well, and will not tear when in contact with the sharp ends of skewers.

The cover can be decorated with any theme: vegetables on a plate, a beautiful chef’s hat, a stylized pig, lamb, etc.

So, first the main fabric is selected and the shape is cut out.

Go to the cut on the outer cover, shape the trim and sew on using a sewing machine or by hand.

Stitch on 3 sides. Optional. Additional stripes will serve as protection for the outer cover: poorly washed skewers often leave soot and grease stains on what they come into contact with.

Additionally, a handle is sewn onto the cover. It is made like a regular loop, any size. In addition to transportation, handles also perform another function: covers are hung on hooks on them. This element greatly decorates the interior.

From plastic bottles

Why haven’t the craftsmen used this strong, durable material that reliably protects people from injury. You can make a simple tube case from multi-colored bottles.

Take 0.5-1 liter bottles. Elements for the structure are made from cuttings. Plastic rings without a bottom or neck are inserted into each other, like in a telescope. Depending on the length of the skewers, it may take 7-10 bottles to make a tube.

How to use? Using scissors, we cut out cylinders to lengthen the tube. We insert the parts (rings without a bottom) into each other. Secure with tape. The lid will be a cut-off bottle without a neck, which is attached to the body, for example, with an elastic band. At the bottom where sharp skewers will be stored, you need to put an additional circle of plastic or tarpaulin.

The necks of plastic bottles are used to tie the skewers. The tie and cover made of plastic containers guarantee safety, convenience, cheapness and comfort. If such a case is damaged, it will not be difficult to make an analogue for your next picnic.

Made of wood

At the end of the work, the finished case for skewers, made by yourself, will look like this:

First you need to measure the existing skewers with a tape measure and note their total length.

Next you will need plywood and slats, which will be laid out in place.

How to make a metal stand for skewers with your own hands

Not everyone can afford to take a barbecue with them on vacation. This often results in the fact that the barbecue structure is quite bulky and heavy. It is not always convenient to take a large unit for frying or storing skewers with you to a barbecue. Therefore, in nature, you can make your own holder.

How to do it:

  1. First of all, you need to prepare all the necessary equipment.
  2. You need to mark the area where the structure will stand. It is necessary to take into account that the length is 50 centimeters and the height is 25 centimeters.
  3. Using a grinder, two fragments of 50 centimeters are cut out.

  4. Later, using the same grinder, four fragments of 25 centimeters each are cut out.
  5. All pre-cut workpieces are drilled: long fragments on both sides, and short fragments on one side.
  6. Fastening elements are mounted on the anvil using a heavy hammer. Both elements must rotate freely around the fastening rivet.
  7. At this stage, you should get two folding structures, which will later serve as a support.
  8. The manufactured structures are mounted in sand and driven in with a hammer.

That’s it, at the end the user receives a stable structure for holding skewers.

MATERIALS

  • nylon braid, 2 m
  • Backpack fabric (or jacket), 80 cm
  • Reinforced material (polytent), 10 cm
  • metal tips, 2 pcs.
  • metal connecting frame, 1 piece

Step 1

Cut out a rectangular canvas measuring 47 x 68 cm from backpack fabric; and from reinforced strips: 47 x 10 cm - to reinforce the bottom of the bag and 26 x 7.5 cm - for the pocket in which the knife is placed. Sew a bottom reinforcement strip along the short side of the bag base. The sewing machine does not “go” well on polytent, so place the braid on the edge and stitch along its edges.

Step 2

Sew the pocket to the middle part of the fabric, also using braid.

Step 3

Sew a strap for the handle from a strip of 100 x 7 cm. Fold it in half lengthwise, iron the fold, and turn the edges inward. Sew stitches along the edges.

Step 4

Sew the ends of the belt 4 cm from the long edge of the base fabric (along the vertical cut), leaving 13–15 cm at the bottom and top. Use a metal connecting frame so that you can adjust the length of the handle. Pass the belt through it and secure it with a knot or secure it with a special stopper.

Step 5

Make loops for the cord that tightens the top of the bag. Fold the top edge twice, mark the places for the loops in the middle front. Finish them with a sewing machine and cut them with a seam ripper.

Step 6

Sew the long sides of the base fabric with a seam 2 cm from the edge. Finish seams with a zigzag stitch. Sew a stitch covering the bottom of the bag, 1cm from the edge. Process the cuts with a zigzag.

The design of the cover can be very multifunctional, suitable for weekend hikes, trips to the country and on a picnic. The case can contain:

  • barbecue;
  • required number of skewers;
  • barbecue grill;
  • tripod or taganok for pots;

Ready-made storage options

Stores sell special bags, but in practice they turn out to be non-functional: you just need to put sharp skewers or racks inside a couple of times and they get spoiled. Placing such items inside a bag is an art.

A storage problem arises: equipment for preparing barbecue is constantly lost. An interesting storage idea is to use a simple paper tube.

The main parameter when choosing is length. The skewers should fit completely into it, and the lid should close without effort. The advantages of such storage: everything is together, easy to assemble, no need to look for each of them separately, does not bend or break during transportation. Especially convenient for those who have very long skewers.

If you haven’t purchased them yet, but at home or with friends you have a free tube, then you can choose skewers specifically for it. It is good to buy a case with an adjustable body and lid so that you can lengthen or, conversely, shorten if necessary.

Using these simple methods, you can independently create strong, beautiful, simple and durable cases designed to store and transport skewers. The material and pattern can be used differently.

Independent thoughtful and thorough work will not require spending a lot of money. But the main advantage: the cover is made in accordance with the size and features of specific skewers.
