DIY car fan heater: is it possible?

Do-it-yourself primitive heating of the interior of any car in winter: current technologies

Fan heater

Those who like simple solutions will like additional means of heating the interior. Designing a car heater from a cigarette lighter with your own hands is one of the simple and affordable options for designing additional heating. The advantages of such a device are difficult to underestimate:

  1. Fuel and oxygen are not burned.
  2. Possibility of use in cars of any class.
  3. Compact design.

A similar solution is commercially available. Its name is a 12 Volt car fan heater. The main disadvantage is low efficiency: it cannot create a microclimate alone. It is recommended to use the car heater only as an addition to standard heating devices. Yours is more reliable and, moreover, repairable - all by analogy with winter washers: a homemade anti-freeze recipe is much better than a roadside canister of an unknown potion.

Ceramic oven

Using combustion gas as a heat source is an effective way to quickly raise the temperature to comfortable levels. The minimum elements are a ceramic stove and a 15-liter gas cylinder. The risk of fire and intense oxygen combustion limit the demand for this type of heating.

Modify the factory furnace

It is preferable to take the path of improving standard equipment, but the costs are incomparable. Modifying a heater is not an easy task: it requires skill and the elements are compact in size. It is not a fact that an additionally installed radiator will have an effect, since it is difficult for the fluid to warm up to operating temperature. Another thing is to introduce an electric heater from a diesel modification (RTS) - the effect is obvious. In addition, warm air flows immediately after starting the engine.

Do-it-yourself installation of an autonomous heater in a car

Since the most common and economical heaters are air and liquid type heaters running on gasoline or diesel fuel, we will describe the installation procedure specifically for such devices. Electric models are somewhat easier to install, but it is better not to install those running on liquefied gas yourself - it is too dangerous.

In any case, before starting work, you should carefully read the instructions supplied with the specific model, and be especially careful when purchasing - the documentation must be in Russian. Examine the complete set of the device: usually the purchased product includes everything necessary to perform installation work, including fasteners.

So, the sequence of actions when installing JSC:

  • We decide on the installation location of the heater and the method of its fastening. Typically, an autonomous heater is mounted in the engine compartment, but you can also find interior implementations (for example, behind the back of the rear row of seats);
  • after this, you should carefully consider how to connect the device to the fuel line and on-board electrical network. If the heater has its own fuel tank (there are also models with a tank capacity of up to five liters), the task is simplified. But in most cases, a circuit connected to a car gas tank is used, so you will need a gas line of the appropriate length. It is recommended to use a metal tube (copper or steel), like those used in the brake system, but, in extreme cases, you can use a rubber hose of the appropriate diameter;
  • regardless of which route the fuel is supplied to the heater, the fuel lines must be secured - with clamps, self-tapping screws or bolt ties, while the holes made in the body for fasteners should be treated with an anti-corrosion compound;
  • The electrical wiring must provide autonomous power to the pump, as well as the fuel pump. At the same time, ensure the operation of your own supercharger via a fuse;
  • you should also decide on the location of the heater control panel on the dashboard, which we also connect to the general power supply circuit;
  • To remove exhaust gases, use the supplied air duct. If it is not there, purchase two hoses for these purposes: one will be used to supply air to the combustion chamber and heat exchanger, the other will be used to remove exhaust gases;
  • both wiring, hoses, and tubes must be laid in such a way that they do not come into contact with hot parts of the power plant, and if they are laid in the cabin, so that they cannot be accidentally touched;
  • install the heater in the prepared place, securely fasten it, connect all hoses and tubes;
  • water AO should be built into the engine cooling system according to the attached instructions;
  • after completing the installation work, start the engine to make sure there are no coolant leaks;
  • you should also check the tightness of the fuel lines;
  • With the heater turned on at full power, measure the current consumed by the device - it should not exceed the rating specified in the passport by more than 10-20%. Otherwise, you should look for the cause of power leaks;
  • make sure that the heater is working properly and heats the interior to the specified temperature within the time corresponding to the standard indicators.

Installed interior heater in a UAZ car

Separately, it should be mentioned that installing an autonomous stove on a car requires mandatory compliance with safety rules when performing installation work, especially if it is a model that runs on gasoline or diesel fuel. As already noted, the laying of all communications must be secretive - only in this case can you protect yourself, passengers and the car from fuel leaks, breaks or short circuits in the on-board network, and from exhaust gases entering the cabin. Protect tubes, wiring and hoses where they come into contact with sharp body parts using rubber seals. Do not forget to check the tightness of all autonomous heating systems at least once a month.

How to make a car heater with your own hands and power it from the cigarette lighter: instructions

The operating principle of fan heaters is based on the formation of a heat flow by blowing a heated body. The air flow is generated by a fan, and a ceramic heating element acts as a heat source. Previously, there were models with tubular electric heaters and nichrome spirals.

Selection of components

You can create additional heating for the car interior in winter using improvised means. One of the simple schemes includes components available to any inventor:

  • IP65 electrical junction box which serves as housing.
  • Nichrome spiral for a household electric oven, acting as a heating element.
  • Two axial fans.
  • Two terminal blocks for fastening sections of spirals and tying them with connecting wires.
  • Wire with a cross-section of at least 2.5 mm2.
  • Cigarette lighter connector.
  • Switch button.

Spiral

When choosing a ferronichrome spiral element, you must be guided by its cross-section. It is not recommended to choose products with a diameter of more than 0.6 mm. The optimal diametrical characteristic is 0.6 mm - and can be easily found on sale, and the connection diagram is simple. We will adhere to this advice when designing the electrical part.

For your information. You can take a nichrome spiral from a toaster, microwave or convection oven by measuring its diameter and adjusting the design of the device.

Cooler

Small fans can handle the heat dissipation function. The specific size depends on the dimensions of the junction box. For example, for a box 88x88x60, two coolers 30x30x15 are suitable. Of course, the electric motor must be designed for 12 Volts.

Manufacturing

When creating a heater circuit for a car with your own hands, powered from a cigarette lighter, it is important to understand that its electrical resistance depends on the length of the section of the nichrome spiral, which affects the amount of current consumed and, as a result, the amount of heat emitted. The larger the length and cross-section, the lower the resistance of the conductor and the greater the power of the installation.

Do-it-yourself 12 volt warm floor

If you are thinking about purchasing a heated floor system for your apartment, then the question will inevitably arise in front of you: how much energy does a heated floor consume? As you understand, there is no clear answer to this question. It all depends on the type of floor and the heated room. Today we will talk about electric warm field.

What affects energy consumption?

If we approach this issue scientifically, then it is necessary to determine the heat loss of the room. The consumption of the device is influenced by factors such as:

Basic electricity consumption indicators

Basic figures by which you can determine energy consumption:

As reported in studies of the operation of heated floors, these systems intensively consume electricity only at the warm-up stage - when they reach operating mode. Having reached the temperature set by the owner, the floor reduces energy consumption, maintaining the set value. This occurs by periodically turning the system on and off. In general, in 1 hour the floor works for about 10-15 minutes, which means about 6 hours per day.

Accurate calculation of energy consumption

Let's make a small approximate calculation and calculate the maximum consumption of the system in a room of 14 square meters in an ordinary Khrushchev house:

The area of the heated area of the room is 10 square meters.

Keep in mind that it is enough to install a heated floor system on an area of 70% of the total to ensure heating of the entire room.

The power of our imaginary system is 150 W per 1 m². Therefore, the total rated power is: 150 W * 10 m² = 1.5 kilowatts.

Our floor is constantly on, which means it works from 6 to 8 hours a day. We multiply 8 hours by 1.5 kW and get the maximum energy consumption of the installation per day: 1.5 kW * 8 h = 12 kW * h.

Per month it will be: 12 kW*h*30=360 kW*h. On average in Russia, the cost of 1 kWh is 2.5 rubles.

As a result, we get: 360 kWh * 2.5 rubles = 900 rubles.

Let us remind you that this is the maximum figure. Actual energy consumption will be much lower if you turn off the floors in the summer, install a thermostat that monitors the temperature, and also turns off when you leave and turns on when you return. Save and the warmth will always be with you.

Advances in technology have made the task of efficiently heating your home much easier. Heating infrared film can be placed on any surface in the room. Depending on the design power, it can perform the functions of the main heating or locally heat the required areas.

Structure and types of heating elements

Infrared heating films are a multilayer structure. The current-carrying element is laminated using thermostable polymer materials. This allows the conductors to be insulated from the outside environment, protecting them from exposure to external moisture while at the same time eliminating the risk of electric shock.

The current-carrying structure consists of two copper or copper-silver busbars connected using carbon paste or a sheet of bimetallic (aluminum-copper) foil. In the first case, the conductor is applied to the polymer base in a continuous layer or in the form of parallel tracks. In the second, a sheet of foil is soldered to the busbars.

The roll is cut along the dotted lines. A puncture or cut of the heating layer does not affect the efficiency of the system.

Infrared film used for heated floors is produced in the form of rolls, on which electrical circuits are made in separate blocks. This heating system makes it easy to select the desired layout by cutting off the excess section. Internal switching between the heating circuits is carried out using clamping clips, and occasionally, in order to increase the reliability of the connection, they are performed by soldering the contacts. Basically, the heating film is designed for standard mains power, however, there are varieties that operate on a voltage of 12 volts. In this case, to connect to the mains, the system is additionally equipped with a step-down transformer.

Scope of application of heated film floors

The application options for infrared films are extremely wide. The main area of use is the creation of underfloor heating systems. A continuous film spread over the entire surface of the floor can effectively heat the entire volume of the room. To save money, installation can be done only in local areas.

Another frequently encountered option is the installation of infrared films on the walls and ceiling in living rooms or in the sauna. In this case, thermal radiation allows you to evenly warm the air and objects in the room and quickly achieve a comfortable temperature regime.

Infrared heating film, designed for a supply voltage of 12 volts, is unrivaled when installing floor or wall heating systems in rooms with high humidity (bathrooms, showers). In this case, there is no need to use a protective grounding device. The voltage of 12 volts is safe for humans and it is quite enough to install only a differential circuit breaker after the meter. A short circuit or insulation failure and voltage leakage will cause the fuse to trip and de-energize the line.

In addition to the traditional application for heating floors or walls, 12 volt films can be used for individual components of diesel cars. Most often this is a fuel filter and a fuel tank. Local heating elements prevent diesel fuel from thickening and extend the service life of all systems.

Safety requirements dictate the use of 12 volts in heated mats and blankets. They are used for drying shoes, as pet bedding or as a blanket to cover your feet. The same area of application of infrared films includes heating car seats from a 12 volt network.

Advantages of infrared heated floors

The film heating system has gained wide recognition due to its technical and operational indicators, which allow the creation of more efficient heating systems:

Installation of infrared heated floors with various floor covering options

Installation of heating film on the attic ceiling

Limiting Factors

Infrared heating film is characterized by high currents consumed by the heating system. Approximately 10 m² requires 10 A or 2.2 kW. For a hallway, kitchen, bathroom or one room, this option is still quite acceptable. However, heating a cottage with an area of more than 100-150 m² will require a large consumption of electricity, resulting in a round sum.

The large power consumed by the heating circuit entails increased requirements for electrical wiring. When building a house, this problem is solved at the design stage by laying the appropriate materials. In most older apartment buildings, the wiring is made of aluminum wires that are not designed to withstand heavy loads. An infrared heating device will most likely require connection to the electric meter input via a new line.

If the heating film is not covered with a continuous carpet, but in local areas, difficulties may arise in the future with the arrangement of furniture. When rearranged, a wardrobe, sofa, or large equipment can cover the heat spot, which will significantly reduce the efficiency of the heating system.

Total

Supplementing the standard interior heating in winter with a homemade car fan heater is one of the simple solutions. It is easier to implement than installing heated seats on a low-spec Lada Granta. The importance of a heating installation in creating an internal microclimate is exclusively auxiliary due to the low efficiency of such heating. The advantage over store-bought options is reliability, lower cost, and maintainability.

The product is assembled from nichrome spirals with a diameter of 0.6 mm, fans, terminal blocks, wires, a cigarette lighter connector and a button. Most of the elements fit into the case. Power is supplied from the cigarette socket. Current load – no more than 15 A. Effective power – about 150 W.

An alternative solution is to make a car heater from a hair dryer. The product’s motor is designed for 12 V. The heating elements will have to be cut into several sections and connected in parallel, having previously measured the current strength. The hair dryer should be connected exclusively via a relay.

Do-it-yourself installation of an autonomous heater in a car

The installation of electric heaters and preheaters is described in detail in the article (Engine preheater), but installing a gas heater yourself is a serious danger. Therefore, we will not describe the connection of these devices, but we will talk about the connection of air and water heaters running on gasoline and diesel fuel.

  1. Carefully read the installation instructions for the auxiliary heater and make sure that you have all the necessary equipment. If some equipment is not included in the heater kit, purchase it separately.
  2. Determine the location for installing the heater and how it is attached.
  3. Consider the routing of the fuel line and electrical wiring. In most cases, auxiliary heaters are connected to the vehicle’s fuel tank, but it is possible to install a separate fuel tank with a capacity of 1–5 liters. For the pipeline, use a copper or steel tube 3–5 mm thick. It is used to make fuel and brake lines for passenger cars, so you can buy the pipe at any auto store. If for some reason it is not possible to install a metal pipe, use a rubber fuel hose with a minimum diameter.
  4. Having determined the configuration of the fuel line, lay a tube or hose and attach it to the body using plastic or metal clamps and bolts or self-tapping screws. Treat holes for bolts and screws with anti-corrosion solutions.
  5. Lay out the electrical wiring, be sure to install a fuse and switch.
  6. Find a location for the control panel and connect it to the wiring.
  7. Lay a coaxial air duct-chimney. If it is not included in the kit, then lay the air supply hose and the exhaust gas outlet hose. Be sure to attach the hoses to the body and make sure that they do not interfere with walking around the cabin and that no one will accidentally break them or crush them with their feet.
  8. Install, secure and connect the heater.
  9. If you are installing a water heater, then connect it to the car's cooling system according to the instructions. After this, start the engine and make sure there are no coolant leaks.
  10. Check the fuel supply pipe for leaks and repair them if necessary.
  11. Turn on the heater and measure the current consumption. If it exceeds that specified in the instructions by more than 20%, then find and eliminate the cause of excessive power consumption.
  12. Wait for the heater to warm the interior or coolant to ensure proper operation.

Introduction

A homemade additional heater VAZ-2110 can heat the interior of a domestic vehicle even in the most severe frosts. In the article below, we will consider all the existing heating units that can be installed in the tenth VAZ model as an additional heating device, we will learn about all the advantages and significant disadvantages of this type of insulation. Let's give an example of creating a heater with your own hands.

It is worth noting that the installation of an additional stove on the VAZ-2110 is most often required by those motorists who operate the product of the Volzhsky plant in the harsh conditions of the northern regions. It is in these areas that the power of a standard heater is not enough. However, for the sake of truth, it is worth noting the fact that even residents of the middle zone periodically supplement the standard stove. Among such motorists, most often there are heat-loving people and those who do not want to spend a lot of time, effort and money on making a standard stove more powerful and productive by subjecting the unit to a complete modernization.

Types of additional heating device

If the owner of a Russian vehicle is thinking about how to install an additional heater on a VAZ-2110, then, first of all, he should know that the practical majority of currently existing designs fit directly into the standard cooling system of the power unit. The heated air flow is distributed throughout the cabin by a built-in electric fan.

An additional stove for the interior of the VAZ-2110 can be purchased at the store, however, in order to save money, such a unit can be made with your own hands. In fact, car dealerships sell completely different types of additional heaters. Depending on the budget and preferences of the motorist, you can choose both small and fairly large designs. True, not all presented models can be placed in the top ten without compromising passenger comfort. There is not much free space in a domestically produced car, so when choosing a unit, you should first decide on the location of its future installation.

If the car owner decides to install an additional heater under the passenger seat, then the purchased device should not be wider than 33 cm, higher than 20 cm and have a depth not exceeding 25 cm.

Compound

The most popular additional car heater is the cigarette lighter fan. It is convenient to move it around the cabin and change the direction of warm air. In addition, to connect to the 12-volt on-board power supply, you do not need special knowledge of electrical engineering; just insert the fan connector into the cigarette lighter.

The cigarette lighter may be needed to connect other electrical appliances, so for a stationary heated fan it is better to use a special connector.

This will reduce wear on the connector and reduce the likelihood of damage to the vehicle's electrical system. For convenience, with this connection method, you can display the fan switch button on the instrument panel.

You can assemble the fan heater from the cigarette lighter into the car with your own hands. To do this, you will need a toaster and a power supply from an old computer. You can make a device from a broken hair dryer. Two radiators can also be taken from an old computer unit.

In addition, you should prepare two relays for 30 A and 12 V, as well as a 30 A fuse. The assembled structure should be placed in a metal box. The assembled fan is connected either to the cigarette lighter or to the battery.

DIY heater

Functionality

Although the fan heater provides greater efficiency, it has low power and consumes about 100-200 watts. This is a small load for the generator, provided that many electricity consumers do not turn on at the same time.

In cold weather, do not turn on the fan before the engine is started. In this case, a cold battery may quickly discharge and the starter will not be able to start.

With a slight frost of up to 5 degrees, a pleasant microclimate will be created in the cabin a few minutes after turning on the heated fan. Even at lower temperatures, the interior warms up within 10 minutes. Before turning on the device, you should check that there is no cold air entering the cabin.

You can independently assemble a more powerful device for your car than what is sold in stores. This way, the interior can be warmed up faster and maintained at a higher temperature.

Sorry, there are no surveys available at this time.

Installation of an additional stove in the interior of a VAZ-2110

Before installing a new heating element in the vehicle interior, you should decide on the sequence of actions to be performed. The installation process of an additional stove can be divided into several main steps:

  • securing the heating unit under the front passenger seat;
  • depressurization of the power unit cooling system;
  • connecting the durite hoses of the installed device to the section of the engine cooling system (it is important to follow one rule: the hoses of the new stove should not come into contact with the muffler pipe and steering parts);
  • drilling two small holes in the engine shield, about 19 mm in diameter (this is necessary for the pipes of the new heater);
  • location of the heater pipes in the cabin under the floor covering;
  • removal of pipes close to the seat frame for the passenger;
  • installation of fasteners that help fix the pipes on the auxiliary heater;
  • filling the expansion tank with about a couple of liters of antifreeze or antifreeze;
  • removing the air lock from the engine cooling system;
  • creating a button on the dashboard through which the car owner can remotely control the new heating element.

If an additional pump is installed along with the new stove, this will help make the heater more productive, because the additional stove uses the flow of antifreeze, which is pumped only by the standard pump.

As a rule, it will take about four hours to install a purchased or homemade additional heater for a VAZ-2110.

Advantages of an additional stove

Experienced motorists note the fact that an additional heater installed in the cabin helps warm the space to a comfortable temperature 2 times faster. At the same time, the feet of passengers sitting behind will always be warm.

The additional heating device does not affect the beauty of the interior; the unit does not spoil the appearance or interfere with the passengers’ feet.

Disadvantages of a new heater

Although the updated heating makes the temperature inside the car higher than usual, it has some disadvantages. In particular, antifreeze or antifreeze begins to warm up more slowly, which occurs due to an increase in the heat capacity of the engine cooling system.

In addition, additional noise emitted by the new heater appears in the cabin, and dust on the floor rises up along with the flow of heated air.

In the summer, hot hoses located under the floor covering can be especially inconvenient, as they will begin to heat up the interior. True, the situation can be corrected by installing a small tap in the engine department, which should be carried out at the stage of “insertion” into the engine cooling system. It is worth noting that there is no such device (faucet) in the finished heater.

If the speed of the additional heater is not adjusted, one part of the cabin will warm up more, due to which the passenger sitting in this place may feel discomfort.

Creating a homemade additional heater

You can make a homemade additional heater for a VAZ-2110 from an old heater radiator of any other car.

Do-it-yourself anti-corrosion treatment of a car

What is car anti-corrosion treatment? - this is the treatment of vulnerable areas of the car, such as the bottom, sills, wheel arches and the like, with specialized means to prevent the possible formation of rust. As many have guessed, this is an important stage in preparing the car for long-term use, without fear of a rotten bottom or rotting sills. Separately, it is worth noting the fact that you can carry out the treatment of the car itself at home and even make a specialized product based on some available elements, which is not inferior in its properties to factory analogues. At the same time, it will be necessary to spend a lot of personal time, and be sure to follow safety precautions when working with chemicals. Therefore, later in the article, we will analyze in detail how to make a product for anti-corrosion treatment, how to choose ready-made options and how to carry out anti-corrosion treatment on a car yourself. Types of anti-corrosion and features of use Today, products for protecting cars from rust are made from a variety of materials. For the main protective element, bitumen with wax, paraffin, various polymeric materials with natural rubber, ebonite, silicone or plastic can be used. Each of the materials has good adhesion properties, but varying degrees of resistance to mechanical stress. Also, various auxiliary substances can be added to the composition of anti-corrosion agents. Increasing the resistance of metal to rust, transforming existing rust or improving the ability of the composition to adhere to any surface. Therefore, some products can have an aggressive effect on the paintwork and damage it. The product itself is most often applied to the underbody of the car from the outside and from the interior, on the wheel arches, sills (and inside the sills too). Less commonly, anti-corrosion agent is applied to the inner surface of the trunk lid, hood, doors and wings. It is worth noting that manufacturers produce the product in different forms and in different containers. Thus, the substance can be offered in small plastic canisters, in metal cans or in aerosol cans. Also, the products can vary in consistency, from very liquid for a thin layer of application, to thick, resin-like. Each type of remedy has its own positive and negative aspects, and is used in different situations. How to choose the right anti-corrosion agent Typically, anti-corrosion treatment of a car is carried out at service stations. But at stations they use specialized factory mixtures that already contain the correct proportions of certain substances for high-quality protection. Also, the workshop has specialized tools that help the craftsmen complete all the work quickly and efficiently. But this does not mean that you can’t do it yourself with high quality and cheap. It is worth considering that more time will be spent on this procedure, if performed independently in a garage, and a little preparation for all procedures will be required. To begin with, it is worth purchasing the necessary components, also intended for anti-corrosion treatment, but the money spent will be significantly less. To begin with, you need to purchase: • “Cordon” - This composition is applied to the metal to reduce vibration noise and provide additional insulation from moisture; • “Body-950” - Another soundproofing composition that increases the resistance of metal to rust and increases comfort in the car interior; you need to purchase 400-500 ml; • “Movil-NN” is a bitumen-based anti-corrosion composition that will serve as a basic component for preserving metal parts; you need to buy a 3-liter canister; • Any degreaser in the amount of one bottle; • Cannon fat is brown; • Automotive plasticine. It is these elements that will be used to create and apply a protective layer to the metal parts of the car, but do not forget about the accompanying tools and consumables, such as brushes, napkins, gloves, rags, as well as power tools for removing existing rust. Preparing the car for treatment First of all, you need to thoroughly wash the car to remove any dirt. Naturally, special attention will need to be paid to the intended surfaces to be treated. Since applying an anti-corrosion compound to a dirty surface will not bring the desired effect. Washing is done with warm water, preferably with strong water pressure, or using a brush. To remove dirt efficiently, it is advisable to use special cleaning products. After washing, the car is thoroughly rinsed to remove any remaining detergents and dried for a couple of hours. It is worth remembering that moisture is unacceptable during anti-corrosion treatment; its presence completely negates all your efforts. Then, all treated surfaces are cleaned of existing rust using electric or hand tools. Stripping is carried out until bare metal appears, without traces of rust. For more detailed instructions on how to remove rust from a car body, you can read our article on this topic - How to remove rust from a car body. Production and application of an anti-corrosion agent To produce our miracle mixture from inexpensive but effective components, it is necessary to prepare a water bath, and in it, using a sufficiently large metal container, prepare our composition. To do this, gun fat, plasticine and Cordon are mixed. These components will make a good anti-corrosion layer, applied in a thick layer and able to withstand small stones and scratches. The mixture itself is applied while still hot onto a dry, prepared surface using brushes. For the best effect, it is worth applying a thick layer, and the drying process can take up to three hours. Before applying the composition, for ease of work, it is worth removing the wheels and carefully covering the brake discs and other mechanisms with paper or oilcloth. And the first layer is applied to noise-insulating and vibration-proofing material in 2-3 layers, allowing each of them to dry completely. This will reduce noise from wheels and road. Processing cavities of body elements To process poorly accessible cavities of car body elements, Movil-NN is used, which is sprayed using a spray gun with a special gun, which has a long and flexible nozzle. Due to its liquid consistency, this product sprays well and fills voids well. This treatment will save the metal of the car from internal rotting. But due to its liquid consistency, the protective layer is very thin, so it is worth carrying out this procedure every year. Also, if there are no technological holes in the thresholds or other parts that can be used for processing, then you can make them yourself using a drill and a drill bit - this will not damage the car. Using the same methods, you can treat the underbody of the car from the passenger compartment, the inside of the doors, the hood and the trunk lid. All this should be done only at your own discretion, guided by your own desires. But before carrying out anti-corrosion treatment inside the cabin, it is worth carefully protecting all upholstery elements from accidental ingress of products that are not washed out from the surface of the fabrics. Is anti-corrosion treatment necessary? There is no clear answer to this question. This is due to many factors depending on the car, year of manufacture, operation, materials used and much more. But guided by ordinary logic, we can say that such treatment will be completely unnecessary, and it certainly won’t make the car any worse. If the question concerns an old domestically produced car, then the answer can be given with confidence that anti-corrosion treatment should be carried out as soon as you have this copy. If we talk about modern new cars, then at the moment every car undergoes factory anti-corrosion treatment, and there is no need to worry about this. Used cars require other attention; in this case, it is necessary to inspect the elements of the car and make a decision based on what you see. But it is worth warning everyone who wants to carry out anti-corrosion treatment on their car that poor-quality work or the use of low-quality materials will lead to the fact that your efforts and money will be wasted. And corrosion will continue to develop, despite partially processed parts. Conclusion From the article. It became clear that self-performed anti-rust treatment of a car means confidence in quality work, as well as knowledge of all the nuances of the condition of your car, and the ability to control especially suspicious areas. But for some car owners, the best option would be to contact experienced technicians at specialized service stations. But you should only contact trusted professionals who have proven themselves to be good specialists. Otherwise, you can end up with poorly done work for a lot of money and damaged expensive materials. Author of the article: Dmitry Gotovchik, 2017View news

Equipment arrangement

A mobile additional stove for a car interior is a device in miniature representing the heating system of a car, however, with the introduction of certain changes. So, for the efficient operation of the heating system and general operability when installing such equipment, it is necessary to either install pipes and the connected housing in parallel into the heating system, or connect to the standard heating system inside the cabin.

Features of additional car interior heaters are:

  • Autonomy of use of some models. Some products operate both from the vehicle’s on-board network and from a 220V inverter, which allows it to be powered both from a stationary network and from the car’s network. However, such products are highly expensive and in most situations their capabilities are quite redundant (except for cases of constant exposure to extremely low temperatures, where saving electricity is also vital);

  • The heating area coverage of such devices is limited, as is the power generated . An additional stove will not be able to fully replace standard heating, since its size and power are incommensurate, but it is quite capable of significantly increasing the efficiency of the heating system;
  • Installing the device does not present any particular difficulties for people who are at least somewhat familiar with the internal structure, so calls to a specialized service for assistance in installing the system are not constant;

In the video there is an additional heater in the car interior:

Gas interior heater

It should be noted that diesel and gasoline autonomous interior heaters have a serious competitor - a gas car interior heater that uses natural gas or propane-butane as fuel. It is worth noting the autonomous interior heating devices of the German developer - Trumatic, whose products are distinguished by:

  • the quietest, almost silent operating mode,
  • high efficiency – 97%;
  • complete absence of the smell of combustion products characteristic of diesel fuel.

Gasoline autonomous heaters are used mainly for use in conditions of low temperatures and severe frosts in the northern climate zone.

Installation of equipment

Installation of an additional stove in the cabin occurs in several stages:

  • Preparing the installation site . Most often, given the rather large dimensions of the device (depending on the power, respectively, the more powerful the larger in size) it fits into some niche. Since passenger vehicles are often provided with free space in the cabin, this place most often turns out to be the space under the seat. This arrangement allows, in addition to saving space in the cabin, to effectively distribute air flow and effectively heat the space; Then you need to lay pipes from the device to the standard ventilation system (connect one to the factory pump and the other from the cylinder head);
  • Power supply in budget options is most often provided through a standard system (from the cigarette lighter) . This ensures production savings, since products powered from an inverter or from a fixed network must have a different device with additional elements, and accordingly the cost of the entire device will be higher.

In the video there is an additional heater in the car interior from the cigarette lighter:

What is it for and where is it used?

Thus, a separate autonomous system heats air and technical fluids independently of the internal combustion engine and other devices. The simplest of these heaters is an autonomous pre-heater, which provides many benefits. Due to it, the engine compartment is heated effectively, and starting the engine in winter takes place without the usual difficulties. In addition, with a warm engine, heating the interior is easier. Without an independent device, a standard stove would take more fuel.

Autonomous air heaters for car interiors are designed to maintain a comfortable temperature in the cabin.

These systems have advantages:

  • complete independence from automotive systems;
  • low noise;
  • low fuel consumption.

Such a stove can heat for days without draining the battery or drawing liters of fuel from the tank. Devices like Eberspacher or Webasto are very compact and do not take up much space.

Manufacturers

The most popular manufacturers among domestic car enthusiasts are:

  • Lifey is a Chinese manufacturer of automotive components. It gained popularity due to its favorable price. Small units can be purchased for between 1500-2000 rubles, which is significantly cheaper than their closest competitors. However, the disadvantage of the manufacturer is the unstable quality inherent in all budget manufacturers, while all installation work can be done with your own hands.

  • Webasto - one of the market leaders producing equipment for heating cars. It is distinguished by consistently high quality and the same high cost. Units from this company are characterized by high endurance (on average they can last for 7-8 years);

  • KRC is an automotive components company. It has been present on the market not long ago and is fighting against competitors by balancing attractive prices and fairly high quality products. According to the developer, the service life of the product is about 4-5 years.

Types of cable heater

There are two types of heating cable:

Resistive . It has low cost. Quite easy to install. It is usually used in everyday life for heating pipes with a diameter of up to 40 mm and for equipping a heated floor system. The operating principle of this element is to lay special sensors and wires along the entire length of the pipeline. Sensors react to any temperature changes and periodically connect and disconnect the heating system.

The wire can be laid in a spiral or strip method. It is attached to the pipes using aluminum tape. During installation, under no circumstances should you allow it to be over-tensioned. To distribute heat evenly, you can wrap wires and pipes with aluminum foil. You also need a reliable thermal insulation system. Mineral wool is suitable for thermal insulation.

Self-regulating . It is used for heating pipes with a diameter of more than 40 mm, containers, roofs, electrical panels, drains and other things. This heating wire consists of 2 insulated conductors located in a polymer, which, under the influence of temperature changes, changes the resistance. This means that as the air temperature decreases, the resistance of the polymer decreases and the current increases, which leads to an increase in the heat produced. This does not require any temperature controllers or electronic sensors.

If the air temperature rises, then this process goes in the opposite direction. The self-regulating heating cable has a long service life . The cost-effectiveness and safety of the cable is ensured by reliable insulation.

Advantages of self-regulating cables

  • A self-regulating cable has a higher resistance to voltage surges. If the voltage is increased for a long time, the cable will not burn out.
  • The self-regulating cable can be cut into pieces of the desired size. But resistive ones have a fixed length.
