What to make from an old crib: interesting options

05.20.2021 What can be done from a crib
Your baby has outgrown his crib, and it’s time to choose a new one... A familiar story. Have you already decided where to put the furniture that has suddenly become unnecessary? Throw it away, or put it on the mezzanine to collect dust, or just take it to a landfill?

In no case! There are much more reasonable and interesting options for using a child’s bed, which is still strong enough to get rid of like that. Choose any at your discretion!

Preparatory work

When making a sofa, the crib frame will be used entirely. However, since the furniture is very tall, the first step is to saw off 25 centimeters from each leg to make it a little lower. In addition, to increase the comfort of its use, it would be a good idea to reduce the width of the frame.

A Brazilian travels 36 km by bike every day to take his loved one home.

If there is little snow, there will be no harvest: December 16 is Ivan the Silent Day

This is much easier to do than it seems. You need to cut through 3/4 of the sides of the crib panel and remove the last spindle. And to maintain symmetry and aesthetic appearance, remove the tip from the other side of the panel and screw it into the one you will use.

Important point! To prevent the wood from cracking, pre-drill the hole with a Ryobi bit before screwing. With its help, you can handle everything much faster and better.

Device and dimensions

All sofas come off the assembly line in standard sizes:

  1. permissible length – 120-190 cm;
  2. width – 55-70 cm;
  3. armrest height – 10-40 cm;
  4. back height – 20-70 cm;
  5. seat height – 40-45 cm.

Before you start making a sofa with your own hands, you need to study in detail the structure of numerous types of this product, which is directly related to the folding mechanism:

  • The book is represented by metal corner plates that connect the seat, back and armrests. They have been familiar to everyone for many years. The sofa-book unfolds by lowering the backrest from a vertical position to a horizontal one. It is necessarily equipped with a linen drawer and requires some wall space for transformation. For this reason, the product is placed with a slight indentation or moved back a little before turning it into a bed.
  • Click-clack is a kind of book, but instead of soft upholstery, the base is made up of a metal frame and slats. The mechanism received its name because of the characteristic sound that is heard during unfolding. The advantage of the design is the additional moving armrests, which are lowered and extend the berth. When folded, the click-clack takes up much less space than a book. In addition, the backrest can be fixed in a “half-sitting” position.
  • The accordion is transformed by pushing the seat forward, which, in turn, pulls the folded backrest behind it. When folded, such a sofa takes up little space, and after unfolding it triples in size. The accordion mechanism is durable and reliable. Manufacturers often supplement models with removable covers.
  • Meralat, or French folding bed, is a compact sofa. The sleeping area is hidden inside it under a seat attached to one segment. Folding occurs by lifting the seat from the back and turning it forward, supported by steel legs. One segment attached to the back of the seat pulls the others, and the sofa can increase 3 times. There are models in which the seat is made up of cushions and folds out after removing them.
  • Sofas with a berth located under the seat. They are pulled forward through a roll-out mechanism. Then the segment rises up and the backrest lowers to a horizontal position.

When choosing any type of sofa for home production, you must first purchase a transformation mechanism and study the drawings for its installation and use.

Made a cute sofa from the remains of an old bed: photo

I used an old bed, namely the headboard and footboard, to make a beautiful sofa. I received as a gift an old bed that had been sitting behind a barn for 5 years. Having received the material, I began searching for its application. As a result of short thoughts, a project arose - a small sofa with soft upholstery.

Preparing material for work

The headboard and footboard were left outside for a long time, so it took more than 30 minutes to clean them. I used more than 60 sheets of sandpaper for sanding. It was imperative to remove all dirt and moldy areas. Additionally, sandblasting was required.

Previously renovated areas required preliminary repairs. I had to renew these old “scars” - after removing the staples and drilling out the screws, I started gluing.

I glued all the splits well. At the same time, I used clamps, without which the adhesion would not have occurred. The initial repair took approximately 1 day. After that, the cracks were filled with putty and wiped.

After complete drying, I sanded again to even out the surfaces.

Shaping the seat and strengthening the back of the sofa

After preliminary repairs of all parts, I performed a schematic assembly to estimate the amount of material. I use the head of the bed to form the back of the sofa. I cut the footboard into 2 parts and make armrests.

Using timber I created a base for the seat.

Then I covered the back and seat itself with plywood 2.5 cm thick.

Then I varnished all the wooden parts. In this case I used dark walnut color.

Upholstery production

The soft upholstery was made from a mattress whose filling has a “memory” effect. But it had to be cut first so that one part could be placed on the back and the other on the seat. Roll pillows were made by covering the foam with fabric of the same color as the mattress.

With a little patience, I made my own sofa using an old bed as a base. This piece of furniture will be an excellent addition to a living room or hall. A project of this type does not require large expenses, which pleasantly pleased me as a lover of exclusive things.

Main works

Once the crib is well sanded, you need to remove the protrusion at the bottom of the crib that is intended to support the mattress. Since adults will sit on the sofa, it will not be enough. For more even support, it is recommended to replace the lip with a longer piece of wood. But we will do this a little later.

First you need to assemble the shortened side panel and install it to the headboard and foot of the bed. The best option would be to use a C-clamp. This will allow you to achieve the correct angle during assembly. This clamp is very versatile and helps to significantly simplify many types of work.

To make the bench, old bed slats will be used, however, in order for them to withstand the load created, it is necessary to provide support for them. Here we will need two boards made of any hard wood. Cut them into two pieces front and back, then attach them to the frame using the L-shaped brackets that previously held the slats.

To make seating, use old bed slats. Cut them to the desired size, secure with screws and cover with thick fabric. If you wish, you can take boards, but this is an extra cost, and our sofa should be inexpensive to manufacture. Therefore, the use of slats would be the most appropriate solution.

How to make a sofa from a bed with your own hands

Here's a way to make a great sofa out of a single bed . First you need to find a bed frame - use an old one or even buy it, it will still be cheaper. Then choose a mattress, the stronger the better. You will also need a saw, a staple gun, some fabric and a piece of plywood. Cut off the headboard. It's pretty easy to do and you can save the scraps for future projects. Measure the bed and buy a sheet of plywood that is a couple of centimeters smaller than the chosen bed frame. Then drill through the boards to the back of the frame. Glue cold foam to the front and curve around the back. Secure with a clip and leave to dry overnight. Then you need to cover it with fabric. Raise the mattress and attach the fabric to the base of the bed to make it as tight as possible. That's all you need to make your own sofa. As you can see, it's nothing complicated and much cheaper than buying a sofa, plus you can choose the fabric that suits your decor perfectly.

Stylish sofa bed

The goal of this project is to make a sofa that can also be used as a bed (quite comfortable...) and also serve as a home theater case. First make a mockup out of cardboard. Lay a large sheet on the ground and press it into the corners to conform to the curves and lines of the furniture. The result should be the same as in the photo. Place the layout on the workpiece and draw the shape with a pencil. Then cut the plywood. If the wood doesn't fit perfectly, try adjusting with a saw and cutting small pieces. Then do the legs. To create a durable sofa, the author used many legs. Attached the legs to the bottom using L-shaped metal rods.

Before proceeding, check whether the home theater fits the center box. Add the top pieces, making sure they fit close to the wall and furniture curves. Cut a square out of the top pieces of plywood to provide easy access to your home theater. The hole will be covered with a cut piece of plywood. Tip: To keep your sofa strong, attach the tops to the legs through metal rods in an L shape, or you can screw in directly. Then make the walls and paint. To hide the legs, use a sheet of plywood. First, cut thin plywood to the height of the sofa bed, then attach it to the center piece with 2 screws. Slowly bend the plywood until it touches the corner of the sofa, attach with two screws. Repeat for the other part of the sofa bed. Paint the box with black paint (preferably matte) and the plywood with white paint. When the paint has dried, you can cover the cut square with plywood. Tip: To access the middle, simply remove 2 screws from the corner. Then make the upholstered part of the sofa bed out of foam and fabric.

Folding sofa with storage drawers

A sofa with a pull-out seat is ideal for storing extra pillows and blankets. Big enough to sleep on and with built-in bedding storage! You can make a folding sofa with drawers with your own hands for your office and use it as a regular sofa, and by reclining the back and taking bedding out of the drawers, as a comfortable bed. Not shown here, but the author also added straps to prevent the seat from opening all the way, and also to be able to pull so that the seat can be lifted up easily. If you liked it, the author’s website has detailed instructions and a list of materials on how to make a folding sofa with your own hands.

Below you can see the cutting of parts with dimensions.

Sanding wood

This is the next step in turning a crib into a comfortable sofa for the living room. Sanding will make it smoother and more pleasant to the touch, as well as eliminate any existing defects. To do this, it is best to use a hand grinder powered by a built-in battery. If you don’t have one, then you can get by with simple coarse or medium-grit sandpaper, but this will require you to spend a lot more time and effort.

Options for converting a bed into a sofa

When planning to make a sofa out of a bed, keep in mind that its size and shape will directly depend on the dimensions of the bed and its external characteristics.

The design of the headboard, the method of fastening the parts, the material used in the manufacture - all this matters and influences the selection of options for converting the bed into a sofa. There are several available ways to modify a bed on your own.

Let's look at the simplest and least expensive, but suitable for novice craftsmen:

  1. Straight two-seater sofa with wooden elements. This option is suitable for those who have an antique sleeping bed, with a beautiful wooden and carved headboard. If the bed is broken, tired or does not fit into the updated interior, you should not throw it away. Update and remake it into a Provence style sofa. We use the headboard as the back of the sofa, the opposite part will go to the sides of the updated product. A comfortable seating depth for the sofa is from 70 to 100 cm. Adhering to the given dimensions, saw off everything unnecessary from the sleeping area. Fasten all the elements, strengthen the frame if necessary. The wooden base for the sofa is ready. All that remains is to sew the seat covers and back cushions. Cut out the thick foam rubber prepared in advance and cut the covers according to its size.
  2. Straight single sofa made from a crib. A good way to add something that has gone out of use. The children have grown up, but they don’t get around to putting them in the attic. With the help of simple manipulations, the crib will turn into a comfortable place for an older child to read or play. All you need to do is unscrew the front wall of the crib, leaving the back and sides in place. Additionally, place a sheet of chipboard cut to size on the seat, fasten the structure with bars or metal corners. This is necessary for the stability and strength of the product, since the children's bed is not designed for heavy loads. Place the mattress in place. It will become a soft seat. Several pillows of different colors and sizes will add special comfort.

How to sew bumpers into a crib with your own hands

Once you have decided what your border will look like, choose the fabric. It should not only be beautiful and suitable in style, but most importantly, it should be safe, soft and pleasant for the child. Synthetic fabrics lead to allergies, irritation of the child’s skin, fungus develops on them, and other troubles. So the material must be exclusively natural and high quality, this is the main requirement. The following materials are suitable:

  • Satin;
  • Cotton;
  • Plush;
  • Bike;
  • Calico;
  • Ranfors;
  • Chintz;
  • Bamboo.

Modern fabrics and a wide range of different designed crib bumpers make it possible to choose the ideal option for any interior.

Be sure to touch the fabric, make sure of its natural composition, pay attention to the threads, their strength and weave. As for the filler, there are several options:

As for the filler, there are several options:

  • Sintepon is the most inexpensive, accessible and widespread material for children's toys, handicrafts and pillows. It is sold at any fabric store and is perfect for making borders.
  • Holofiber is a more modern material, similar to padding polyester. It is more expensive, but its quality is also higher: the product will dry instantly, is completely non-toxic and safe for children, holds its shape perfectly and is highly durable.
  • Periotec is another new material that is being used to make a variety of soft goods. It is also similar to padding polyester, but much more expensive and better in quality. Perfectly keeps its shape after washing, does not wrinkle, does not deform. Hypoallergenic, suitable even for sick children prone to allergies and irritations.

The best thing for a child is natural. This rule also applies to crib bumpers.

When you have selected the fabric and filling, you should choose a pattern. There are many ready-made patterns and diagrams on the Internet, but in fact, you can make the bumpers for a baby crib with your own hands, without a ready-made pattern, but on your own. Simply decide what shape the border will be, draw the shape on a large piece of paper and cut it out. That's all! You have a blank that you will need to trace on the fabric, cut out, sew the halves together and stuff with filler.

Pattern for a baby pillow in the shape of a cloud.

It is more important to choose the right size. Determine it yourself. Take a centimeter and measure the height of the side: the product does not have to reach the very top of the sides of the bed, it can only reach half, the main thing is that the baby does not hit. Measure the desired length around the perimeter of the crib. You have received the right size.

Sewing protective bumpers for a newborn's crib is often done by expectant mothers, their close relatives or friends.

Multiply the resulting amount by two, since the sides will be made of two halves. And if you make a braid, then do it in three times, because it is made from three long strips. Only when you calculate the size, go for the fabric, knowing how much of it you will need. Take some extra fabric, just in case.

Proper combination of high and low sides, as well as their timely use, will make the baby’s life as comfortable and safe as possible.

What can be made from a crib: 10 cool ideas

Parents have probably read how to choose a crib a hundred times. But what happens when the child grows up? We know what can be made from a baby crib.

A crib for a newborn is a necessary purchase, but short-lived. Before you know it, the baby has already grown up and needs another bed. The only thing left to do is give the old one to “pregnant” friends, leave it collecting dust somewhere in the closet, or throw it away... But I don’t want to do that. Especially when the design of a children's room was thought out with love and each item was chosen with special care. Don't worry, there are cool ideas on what to make out of a crib once your baby has outgrown it. For example, a table, a bench for the country house or even a bunk bed for children.

Your child has grown up and has new interests. He loves to draw and read. Why not turn a crib into a table for your baby? At such a table, the child will draw his first masterpieces. And the main thing is that the table made from a crib will correspond to the child’s height.

Making a cozy sofa from a crib

A child grows rapidly in the first three years of his life, and the very first crib becomes unusable. And there are so many memories associated with her, and it’s such a shame to throw it away or give it away. In this case, why get rid of it when you can simply turn it into a very comfortable sofa, for example, for gatherings in the country. You can even adapt a children's mattress with coconut shavings, on which your baby snorted with such pleasure for three whole years.

The conversion technology is simple. First, you need to remove one extra wall; if the crib has a wall with height adjustment, then it is this that is removed, along with all the metal parts. You can insert special plugs into the remaining holes. In some models this, unfortunately, is not possible.

Next, we ensure stability, remove the wheels and pendulums, if any, the crib should stand on four support legs.

The next point will be strengthening the bottom. For this, a thick piece of plywood, precisely adjusted to the required dimensions, is best suited.

We replace thin hardboard with plywood. We screw it to the stiffening ribs of the crib.

The next step will be the construction of the seating area itself. This is where the mattress comes in handy. However, one will not be enough. Therefore, if you have another orthopedic springless mattress somewhere, Matramax, for example, this will be an ideal solution.

The next step is constructing a mattress cover. A stronger fabric is perfect for this. Both mattresses must be placed in the cover at once and a zipper must be sewn in for washing.

The crib can also be painted in any color you want. Then coat with varnish to secure the result.

It wouldn’t hurt to purchase or make several pieces of decorative pillows - a pair of roller pillows on the sides and four around the perimeter.

But even with such modifications, you shouldn’t count on such a sofa to withstand a lot of weight. It’s worth limiting yourself to a couple of people. If you don’t want to take risks, then you need to think about strengthening the structure in the area where the bottom guides are fastened.

There is a lot of room for creativity in decorating such a structure. And the only limitation can be your own imagination.

A crib completely converted into a sofa can not only acquire a new functional purpose, but also have another plus as additional storage space in the form of lower drawers, which are provided in some models.

A full-fledged sleeping bed made from an old ottoman

It happens that you still can’t throw away not just old, but almost ancient furniture. You can get rid of it quickly, but at the dacha it would be nice to have a new bed, and at home it’s not very comfortable on the sofa. The solution comes naturally. You have almost nothing to lose if you try to transform an old but still strong foundation into a new place for healthy sleep. Of course, the main role will be played by a good modern mattress, for which we will make a bed from what we have.

Materials and tools for remodeling

We will use legs, base boards, and partially surviving foam rubber from an old ottoman. Additionally you should purchase:

  • A sheet of plywood about 1.5 cm thick.
  • If the legs are not very strong, stock up on a 4x4 cm block.
  • Foam rubber with a density of 3-5 cm.
  • Thin foam rubber or padding polyester.
  • Leather substitute for surface decoration.
  • All-purpose or wood glue.
  • Screwdriver.
  • Sandpaper.
  • Decorative nails.
  • Screws.

Use a tape measure, pencil, drill, jigsaw, hammer, scissors, and a furniture stapler with staples.

Step-by-step description of the alteration

  1. Remove the railings. Fully expand the sleeping area. Check its integrity and stability by pressing on the outer corners of the structure.
  2. Mark the places where additional legs need to be installed. Use a tape measure to measure the size you need.
  3. Cut 2 (or all 4) extra legs from the block. Sand them lightly with sandpaper. Install the legs with screws and glue to the strongest areas of the structure being used.
  1. Measure the length of the outer sides of the frame. Using these measurements, cut planks about 30 cm wide from boards or plywood.
  2. Install the outer panels along the outside of the base with glue and screws.

Project Description

So, you have a crib and you don’t want to part with it. And this is not surprising, because every parent has the warmest and most important memories associated with her. The idea of the project is to make a compact sofa out of it. The main requirements for it are small size, attractive appearance and ease of use. In addition, its production should not require significant capital investments and large time costs.

If you follow the instructions described in this article, it will take you no more than one day, provided that you know how to handle the tools and have everything you need at your disposal. But let’s not talk about anything for too long, but let’s immediately begin the manufacturing process.

Creative ideas for using an old children's bed

Here are some more interesting transformation options:

  1. Secluded play area for kids.
    If you hang a curtain, it becomes a tent. Turn the bed upside down, place it on the floor on the back wall and two side ones. Cover the floor inside with a mattress, throw in a couple of pillows, add lighting and a corner for play and privacy is ready. The upper part will serve as a shelf for things and toys.
  2. Desk for the garden
    . We proceed by analogy with the desk in the nursery. We strengthen the structure, make a tabletop from a wide board, varnish or paint it. To increase the working surface, we increase the side or top shelves so that there is enough space for gardening tools, flower pots and boxes for seedlings.
  3. Serving table or minibar on wheels.
    Add wheels if they were missing initially. We add sides to the shelves so that when moving, the dishes do not fall. Make semicircular compartments for bottles, secure holders for glasses and wine glasses.

Multifunctional work table

As a child grows up, he develops new hobbies that require his own workspace. An ideal option for a baby would be a table made from a children's bed, which would be suitable for his height and would also be an excellent place for drawing or playing.

Using a bed on wheels, you can design a unique mobile serving table for your home. At a summer cottage, a crib can also be transformed into a useful table on which garden tools, pots with seedlings or flowers will be placed.

Converting an old crib into a table for a child's activities and creativity

When a child grows up, the crib used in infancy is usually thrown away or sold by parents. However, there is no need to rush into this, because such furniture can easily be turned into a comfortable table for studying. This work will not require any special costs, knowledge or special tools.

There are a lot of options for converting a crib into a table. Some parents make a regular simple table, others equip the structure with shelves for books, pencils or a collection of small toys. If you wish, you can even make stands for modeling or drawing. Everything depends only on the imagination of the master.

All cribs have a similar design, which is a horizontal platform fixed between two backs and equipped with high side bumpers. The presence of such parts greatly simplifies the task of the master.

In order not to bother yourself much with alterations, it is enough to remove one of the side rails from the crib. Its bottom will play the role of a tabletop, the height of which is adjusted in accordance with the growth of the child. Fabric pockets are attached to the side walls of the resulting table, in which it will be convenient for the child to store pencils and other stationery. Folders for storing paper or hanging children's drawings are also placed on the sides. After this, the table becomes suitable for use.

A more complex version of the table, in addition to the modifications already described, provides for the installation of drawers and an adjustable table top. The boxes are made of laminate or MDF, covering each manufactured part with edging tape. They are installed vertically, one above the other, or fixed horizontally along the entire length of the tabletop. For ease of use, they are equipped with all necessary furniture fittings.

To make it more convenient for a child to draw or do homework, the tabletop is made adjustable in angle of inclination. To do this, you will need to cut out a piece from laminate or MDF that is equal in size to the bottom of the crib. In the front part, both tabletop elements are fastened with piano hinges. To make lifting the top panel more convenient, a small furniture handle is installed in its rear part.

The tilt is adjusted using a simple device. It consists of two small wooden blocks, sawn on one side at an angle of 15-20 degrees. Having lifted the top panel, stops are placed under it. Depending on the depth of their installation, the height of the table top depends.

Children's desk made from an old bed

Preschool children need a table at which they can draw, sculpt, and do simple writing tasks, learning to hold their back straight. Transforming a bed into a table is not difficult.

To begin, disconnect the front wall from the frame, which will become the table. The bottom, at first, until the child grows up, will play the role of a tabletop. The removed part will be useful for a shelf, which you can also design yourself.

As it grows, move it to a higher level, and then simply lower the new tabletop to the top, securing it to the side and back walls. Select the finishing material taking into account the child’s wishes and the required degree of safety. Available finishes include laminated chipboard, plywood, and impact-resistant glass.

In addition to the table top, on the side walls of the former bed, place shallow shelves for children's crafts, hooks and pockets, jars for office supplies, folders for magazines and papers. Hang framed drawings and photographs.

How to make a sofa out of a bed

For this option, a single or double bed with a solid wooden base is best suited.

Tools and materials

For such a transformation you will need a certain carpentry skill. You need to be able to hold a jigsaw and screwdriver in your hands and know how to use them. Prepare in advance a simple hammer, drill, furniture stapler (staples for it) and furniture screws.

In order for the future product to have an attractive appearance, the frame from the old bed is not enough. At a hardware store you need to buy chipboard or plywood (8–10 mm thick), foam rubber and fabric for upholstery, and zippers for pillow covers. This model has a corner arrangement, so the sofa will have a back and one side part, which are moved towards the wall.

Remodeling stages

Conventionally, the whole process can be divided into two parts.

  1. Making a wooden frame. We measure the frame from under the bed and cut out a chipboard blank using these dimensions. We lay it on top of the frame, screw it or nail it. Depending on your wishes, we use a jigsaw to cut out templates for the back and side parts from laminated chipboard or plywood. They can have a rectangular shape (height from 50 cm) or rounded. Think about the drawing of the product, dimensions in advance, so that later the work goes faster. Fasten all parts with screws.
  2. Covered with foam rubber and externally trimmed with fabric. Cover the seat blank with fabric using a stapler. The fabric is cut with an allowance so that it can be folded and secured on the wrong side without any problems. Pillows or one continuous mat will be placed on top of it. Since the sofa is 3-seater, you can make three pillows. It will look harmonious, and the number of them behind your back depends on the available supply of fabric and foam rubber. Usually, two large and one narrow roller per edge is enough.

Buying new furniture is always expensive, and it has standard sizes. In the case of making a sofa yourself, you have the opportunity to reduce costs, do everything to your liking, and realize your creative potential.

To begin with, you can practice on simple options for converting a bed into a sofa, and if things go wrong, then try something more complicated. Don't be afraid to bring your ideas to life!

Varieties

Depending on the intended purpose of the side, structures of different heights, configurations, fastening methods and degrees of protection are used. In cribs for babies, it is recommended to use restraints that completely cover the side or long side of the bed. For preschool children, protective systems are installed to protect them from accidentally falling out of bed during night or daytime sleep. They may not be installed along the entire perimeter of the bed, but cover only part of the long side of the mattress.

Often, a bed restraint is available with a mount that allows you to easily remove the unit from a child's bed and attach it to any other horizontal surface that requires restraint. These bumpers are convenient to use when moving, traveling, and in cases where the child needs to sleep outside of his usual bed. This installation is easy to install and will protect the child even if he sleeps on an adult bed.

All types of bed bumpers to prevent falls are divided into several categories, depending on the material of manufacture:

  • Soft;
  • Made from mesh-like material;
  • Plastic;
  • Wooden.

Soft

Soft bed bumpers are made of padding polyester material or foam rubber. A layer of this material is rolled into tubes and fastened together so that the resulting structure is stable and indestructible. By adjusting the number of rollers stacked on top of each other, sides of different heights are made.

In order for such limiters to always look clean and neat, they are covered with covers with a removable snake. The covers are washed in the machine, ironed and put back on foam rollers. This will help to always keep the children's bed clean and the room beautiful.

In order for this design to adhere well to the bed, foam rollers, fastened together, are attached to the mattress. For this, homemade ties, buttons or sew-on zippers are used. Another simple do-it-yourself fastening option is sewing Velcro onto the bed restrainer and onto the mattress. Velcro fastening is one of the most reliable, but at the same time easy to use and operate methods of attaching foam bumpers to a mattress.

Net

A bed limiter made of mesh material is used for cribs if the child is not too small and sleeps separately from his parents. The mesh must be very strong and can support the child if he rests his entire weight on it while sleeping. To securely fasten such protection, you should prepare a frame for the mesh and securely fasten it. The frame is made of wooden slats or metal stops. The restraints themselves are softened by putting fabric covers or foam pillows on them.

Plastic

Plastic protective barriers for beds come in two types:

  • Purchased;
  • Made by yourself.

The sides, made of plastic, have fairly high strength, combined with the low weight of the protective installation itself. Commercially available plastic restraints have an original set of necessary fittings for attaching the system to the bed.

When making such a system yourself, you can use available materials, such as plastic pipes for plumbing. They are very easy to fasten together, and thus create a side with vertical slats. The height of the slats is adjusted depending on needs and desires, the width of the holes between the slats - depending on the intended purpose of the side. The plastic bed barrier for children is very light, and there is no need to put soft covers on it. But if such a bed barrier is made of plumbing pipes, for ethical reasons it is covered with a cover or a thin blanket.

Wooden

Wooden restraints are the most popular and are often sold complete with cribs. The main advantage of a wooden stopper is that it is durable, versatile, and also that it fits any interior design. In addition, this installation is easy to wash, remove, and is completely safe for the baby. A wooden bed rail can be made in different designs, have different heights and fastening methods. Wooden barriers are not only used for cribs; they can be used as a removable barrier option for teenage or bunk beds.

What will be needed?

If you have an old crib that's just collecting dust in the garage or attic, this would make a great base for a comfortable sofa. But it alone is not enough to make it. You will also need the following materials and tools:

  • Grinder;
  • manual sandblaster;
  • hand saw;
  • electric drill and drill set;
  • screwdriver with removable bits;
  • roulette;
  • C-clamp;
  • a simple pencil;
  • white primer;
  • paint (color at your discretion);
  • clear nail polish;
  • dark oak varnish;
  • any old thick fabric;
  • hardwood boards;
  • 2" screws.

Everything you need can be purchased at any hardware store. When it comes to tools, if you like to do things with your hands, then you should have them. But if you don’t have any equipment at your disposal, then try to borrow it from friends or acquaintances, since there is little point in buying equipment just for once.

Flower stand

A place to sleep can easily become an excellent flower stand. In addition, such a device is suitable for transplanting plants. The base must be moved upward (at hand level) so that it turns into a tabletop. To strengthen it, you can install several table frames at once. The design will fit into any design solution of the room if it is adjusted with paint and varnish.

Furniture for children's room

An old crib will make an excellent coffee table or a couple of small chairs that will be useful for growing children. It will also make a convenient and compact rack for books, magazines or other children's accessories.

In my opinion, furniture made with your own hands has good energy, which is very important for comfort in the house. Such products are unique, since the author himself chooses the style, selects the shape and carries out the production

I am very glad that my husband suggested dismantling the attic and carrying out some kind of “revitalization” of the old furniture. Now everything that has been gathering dust in the attic for years can fully function again.

To get a suspended version, you need to use chains or a rope to hang it from a beam on the ceiling. The hanging sofa will become your favorite place, where it will be comfortable to read, swaying slightly.

Children's table

Every child dreams of having his own children's corner in which he could draw, sculpt and play. Why not remake the crib to create it? To do this, simply remove the front part and select accessories and chairs. It is important that the chairs are suitable for the child's height. We cover the base of the crib with a special comfortable fabric. You can decorate the crib with various patterns on its surface. All that remains is to put pencils, brushes and an album. Creative Desk Ideas

Today a designer desk can be made from anything. Today, on the Internet you can find the most unusual table options. At the moment, angular models that look a little like an open book are popular.

On one part there is a functional side for setting up a computer or conducting classes, and on the other there are shelves where you can place textbooks for classes and other literature. At the same time, the second part is often equipped with arched shelves and complemented with glass or wooden carved parts.

Folding models and regular straight tables are no less common. At the same time, their main highlight is pull-out cabinets without handles or with unusual handles, for example, made of rope. Models are popular where, instead of the usual cabinet on the left or right, there are winding shelves and a small cabinet for small items.

There are models with no drawers at all. They are made either with metal legs or with crooked legs. In this case, a cabinet is placed nearby for storing textbooks. There are floating models without legs. In this case, the table looks like an open shelf. Often it has a retractable design.

Transformer models are very popular, when one part of the table can be placed at any angle. Interesting tables have a surface that is not rectangular, as usual, but oval or semicircular.

The combination of materials is stylish at the moment. For example, a wooden work surface and glass or metal legs, or vice versa. Models where glass is placed on top of wood on the working surface itself look creative. In this case, the child can put his drawings or stickers under the glass. It can also decorate the surface with multi-colored stones or simply sparkles.

How to make a shelf from a children's bed

Here are some more simple and effective options:

  • Hanging shelf from the headboard
    . We unscrew it from the frame without altering it, fasten it tightly to the wall (the crossbars are horizontal) or lean it against the partition and place it on the floor. The shelf is multifunctional and decorative. It can be placed in any room. The use will be beneficial both in the living room and bedroom, as well as in the kitchen, and in the bathroom it is convenient to dry clothes and towels. If you add hooks, then there will be a place for a robe or hairdryer. Books, magazines, sewing supplies, stationery items and jewelry - all the variety will fit on such a shelf and will be in plain sight. Customize the product with pockets, compartments for small items, and fasteners.
  • Floor rack
    . Needs minimal modification. You will need the entire crib, remove only the front side, and then act according to your wishes, according to the dimensions of the place where you plan to put it. For a high rack, turn the bed vertically. We cut out and fasten several internal shelves, making a convenient interval between them. Best of all, such a shelf will look in the hallway. It will help remove piled shoes from under your feet. The rack takes up little space, but is very spacious. If you paint the shelf in bright colors, attach signs with the children's names, and make appliques, you will get a designer item for the nursery. A child always has a lot of different soft toys, boxes with construction sets and books. By arranging and arranging all this on a rack, you will have an excellent storage area.

Some useful tips from experienced needlewomen with extensive experience in decorating a baby’s crib:

A canopy on a crib is not just an accessory, it helps protect the baby from drafts, light, and insects. However, after a few months it is worth removing it - the baby may grab the fabric with his hands, pull and even drop the entire suspended structure on himself

It is very important to wash the canopy regularly and often, because dust collects on the fabric, which can lead to the development of allergies in the baby

The canopy will protect the crib from dust

To decorate the back, you can use ready-made or homemade appliqués, and if you have the appropriate skills, you can easily decorate the frame with colorful designs. Paint for any children's things should be water-based, since it is non-toxic, does not emit strong odors and dries very quickly. When the child grows up a little, the images on the back can be used for the child’s leisure time - telling him fairy tales about the characters drawn on the crib.

Baby crib decor with drawings
