Various hanging chairs for the home or garden - we make it ourselves

Good afternoon, today we will continue to talk about swings. We have already figured out what different (both simple and complex) swings you can make with your own hands for the dacha in our article “Swings for the dacha - 20 WAYS to make with your own hands . And today I decided that this topic is worth continuing, because I found 15 more WAYS to make a garden wooden swing. They are even more luxurious than the ones I already talked about... And now I will show them to you and explain what’s what.

We will start with the simplest versions of swings for the garden - and then little by little we will begin to make things cooler and cooler . You yourself will be stunned by the realization that “how is everything, damn it, simple and easy, I can do it too.”

If mothers are reading us, then don’t rush to run away - here there are options for garden swings that your delicate hands can handle...

Better yet, show this article to the father of the family - believe me, there will be something for him to LIT ... And in your yard - a GARDEN SWING will very quickly appear... with interesting architectural gadgets

But I won't get ahead of myself. Let's start from the beginning...

I'll start with a non-standard way...

MODEL ONE – garden swing

from a hoop and rope.

This method doesn’t even require men’s hands. Patient women will do...

What do you need:

  • steel hoop for gymnastics...
  • foam rubber for wrapping a hard hoop (which was more comfortable and softer) -
  • and a rope (a clothesline from a hardware store will do).

What to do I described the entire process of creating a swing and drew everything step by step in the picture (so as not to explain it with fingers - but to make it clear).

Then, when the entire macrame web is made, you can additionally wrap the rim with rope - between the knots - so that the knots do not slide along the hoop and do not bunch up - and cover it with foam rubber on top - so that the hard rim does not dig into the body...

But in the photo below we see a weave of thinner ropes - and in the center of the rope ours are not randomly intertwined - but threaded into a small metal ring ...

You can also buy such garden swings... They are on sale... made using factory equipment. And you don't have to do anything with your own hands.

And then one photo gave me a wonderful thought ...

What if...we found a tub or basin - which would just fit inside our iron hoop - then we don’t need to weave anything from strings. Place a basin inside the hoop and enjoy yourself on the garden swing... And then, when the children grow up and lose interest in this fun, you can create a wonderful, lush garden flower bed in the basin...

What if you make it yourself?

We thought and imagined that everything you need for a home hammock can be assembled in a tool block, and your hands are dexterous. Whoever decides: we make the rocking chair ourselves.

And then we will tell you below what and how to make types of hanging chairs like cocoon-hammock-swing. And most importantly, how to strengthen it indoors, so as not to hastily drag a complex device into the office block or living room before the rain.

Dacha grace

Outdoor and yard swings are placed wherever there is space. At the dacha, too, in general, there is not an abundance of it, but for yourself it’s worth figuring out how to collect dacha pleasures into one eden: you save space, and, if you really want to relax, then there are beds that make your hands callused, your eyes didn't cause calluses. Here, as usual, everyone is their own boss. However, there is a very good universal option: hang a garden swing in a pergola, see fig. If it is, of course, strong enough for this. Dig up and arrange a decorative pond nearby - and you’re ready to create a piece of paradise with your own hands on less than 1 acre.

Making a seat using the macrame technique

For this type of hanging chair you will need:

  • 7 strands of 6 m;
  • 4 wires 5m each;
  • 4 strands of 4.5 m each;
  • 2 wires 4 m each;
  • 2 metal circles with a diameter of 90 and 110 cm.

Having prepared the ropes of the required length, proceed to attach them to the frame.

  1. Starting from the center, tie 7 long strands in pairs at a distance of 6 cm from each other.
  2. Continue attaching threads to the sides of the warp. Accordingly, on one side there should be 2 wires of 5 m each, 2 wires of 4.5 m each and 1 wire 4 m long. Connect the long and short cables in pairs to the base
  3. Then start weaving the pattern from the center of the piece. Weaving the pattern should start from the center
  4. As a result of your work, you should get an openwork circle. Finished perforated circle: seat base using macrame technique
  5. Secure each garment with a flat knot to prevent the rope from slipping around.
  6. When knitting, always maintain tension by tying knots at 6cm intervals.

If it is necessary to create a fringe, the length of the strands should be increased by about one meter and, upon completion of the work, do not cut the remaining cord.

In addition, equip the resulting structure with reliable strapping and a soft pillow.

A rocking chair made using the macrame weaving technique must be additionally equipped with a pillow

The best for children

People don’t start swinging on the hanging swing right away. For kids who have just learned how to properly rearrange their bottom two, it’s just right to ride on a pendulum swing. Which, by the way, also develops motor skills and strengthens the musculoskeletal system. Parents who have built a children's pendulum swing for their offspring are soon convinced: abrasions on the knees and elbows, broken noses, roaring and resentment from both have noticeably decreased. Although, of course, it’s still not without it. But the swing will help children develop reasonable caution and common sense, avoiding serious injury.

It is known how a pendulum swing works. Shown in Fig. This option is interesting because it requires as many as 11 nails for metal fasteners:

Children's swing-pendulum

Parts marked (!) are made of hard, fine-grained deciduous wood - oak, beech, hornbeam, walnut. The ends of the pendulum axis do not need to be ground to a perfectly round shape: it is enough to plan them more or less evenly so that they fit into the sockets with a slight interference, and shake the board several times to get it to work in. If the fibers in the axle and support posts are oriented mutually perpendicular (which can be easily observed by cutting them from one board), then the swing will last for many years, and the rubbing surfaces will soon become mirror-smooth and durable, as if they were turned from steel on a machine.

The pendulum swing can be made portable so that, say, you can take it to the veranda for the winter. 2 ways to do this are shown there, pos. a and b. According to method a, the ends of the racks are concreted in an unusable tire; Method b is obvious and simpler, but both riders may fall to the side along with the swing. By the way, you can get a lot of other benefits from old swing tires; We will return to them later.

Swings for older children are made hanging, like for adults (see below), with some features:

Children's swings for schoolchildren

  • The supporting beam of the swing is made of timber with an extension to which a ladder leads, see fig. on right.
  • It’s even better, if there’s enough space, to put an additional lower support on the side, so that in addition you get a horizontal bar, see fig. below. In this case, it is preferable to make the entire sports corner, except for the horizontal bar crossbar, from a profile pipe, then the entire structure will be stronger, cheaper and technologically simpler.
  • Suspension of a rocking chair for children who already know how to swing is best suited to the rope scheme 2-2 (see below). Then you can, without risking pinching or even breaking your finger with the chain, swing, it will take your breath away. And the right materials and design of the suspension will not allow you to “spin the sun” and dive down from its highest point, or turn into a projectile fired from a sling, unable to group for landing, like acrobats.

Children's sports corner made of profile pipe with swings

Note: when choosing or designing a swing, do not neglect safety precautions! When swinging at full swing, the speed of the rocker at critical points of the trajectory exceeds 50 km/h! Accordingly, the result of falling or falling from a swing will be equivalent to an accident at the same speed.

Swings for small children

There are also swings for newborns and infants. There are many benefits from them, but they are medical equipment. It is strongly not recommended to make such a swing yourself, but choose store-bought ones and use them only as prescribed by your pediatrician.

For babies from about six months old, whose eyes are already looking meaningfully (this means that their vision has developed and they see clearly), a children's swing for little ones will be useful, see fig. on right. They cost a lot, but making similar ones yourself is very easy from pipes, PVC or propylene, and cutting plywood, see video:

Video: baby swings for babies

Just don’t forget to cover the ends of the pipes with polystyrene foam: at that age, a finger can fit into a small hole, and you want to stick it there. They swing a child in such a swing, holding the suspension with their hands; In an apartment, the same plastic pipe will serve as a cross member; the weight is light.

Note: the swing is most often the basis of a children's corner. What else is needed for it, and how to put it all together, requires a separate description in parts. For example, you can watch the following video:

DIY wicker hanging chair

Wickerwork is a classic that never goes out of style. For weaving, you can use natural wicker or artificial substitutes. Buy materials in specialized stores.

Housewives who know how to weave from natural wicker can make a hanging chair from rattan. For those who have never used wicker, it is easier to make a product using a variety of thread weaving techniques, creating unique openwork patterns. This will significantly reduce the cost of the final product, and beautiful knitting is in no way inferior in attractiveness to the beauty of rattan.

The most popular wicker model now is the cocoon chair. It is comfortable and beautiful, with its appearance it can decorate any recreation area. The peculiarity of the cocoon is that 2/3 of the space is hidden behind wicker walls, which guarantees complete privacy.

How to make a cocoon hanging chair in wicker style

To do this, you need PVC pipes, from which you should make a strong frame (a round circle), as well as pipes of a smaller diameter to create a round shape. The pipes are connected to each other with self-tapping screws. The finished frame is woven with openwork weave from strong threads or thin rope. Be sure to place soft pillows on the bottom.

The clasp for such a product can be a metal chain attached to the top of the PVC frame. Drawings of a hanging chair in the shape of a cocoon can be found on the Internet and modified based on your wishes and design ideas.

Mounting options for home

The type of fastening of a self-made product can be:

  • Ceiling. To do this, use a hook attached to the ceiling. A chain is attached to it, which will hold the product. With such a model it will be pleasant and comfortable to swing from side to side.

  • Axial.
This option is also attached to the ceiling. But additional slings are installed on the sides of the seat, attached to the walls or ceiling. It will not be possible to swing on such a product like on a swing; the seat will only rotate around its own axis .
  • Shtangov. For this purpose, a special curved stand with a ring stop at the bottom is used. A suspension consisting of a ring and a spring with a chain is mounted at the top of the rod. This option is durable, reliable and stable.
  • In the form of a platform with a double suspension. It is a strong and stable base equipped with sidewalls. This type of fastening is suitable for installing a spacious double chair.
  • With a crossbar, at the ends of which rings with cords and a suspension are put on.

Scheme for making a hoop

A circle as a shape is often used to make a hanging shell chair frame using the macrame method, a fabric chair cover, a hammock chair, a cocoon, and a chair on a wooden base. You can make a circle from a metal or metal-plastic tube. A metal exercise machine of the same name, if available, is also suitable.

The finished design of a hanging chair can be upholstered with foam rubber, polyester padding, fabric, woven with screws or ropes. You can trim the edges with decorative ribbons or braid, and decorate with beads.

Tools and materials

A hanging wood frame is most often used for straighter shapes. Wooden pallets are often used as the base for these chairs. These can be single boards or ready-made structures that are simply sawn into the required blocks.

To make a slatted hammock structure you will need:

  • hacksaw or jigsaw;
  • drill;
  • wood drills;
  • sandpaper for surface treatment.

Metal-plastic will be an excellent material for making a chair frame. The diameter of the tube must be greater than 3.5 cm.

Metal-plastic is easy to saw; you don’t need to bend it using special equipment, since they are sold in the form of coils, which means they already have a round shape. To make the frame you will need: self-tapping screws, a screwdriver, a wooden or metal sleeve.

Metal tubes form the strongest structure for chairs of any shape, whether round or joined at the top and splayed down. Welding will help in this matter. The work will require an experienced person and a bending machine. But this frame will be the heaviest, which means it will require strong fastening. This option will take longer.

Manufacturing

Initially, the wood needs to be shaped, sanded, treated with insect repellent, and painted to protect against the elements. Attached to the joint with wood glue and, if necessary, supplemented with screws or bushings.

The metal-plastic base is easily fixed in the ring. Fastening occurs using a wooden or plastic sleeve of smaller diameter, secured with stainless steel screws on both sides of the joint, without extending beyond the sleeve.

The process of bending a metal pipe is quite prosaic if you have special equipment. Some experience with the machine is required. Pipe bending is available upon request.

Welding requires a specific location and skill level. It is not recommended to work with welding without special skills. The number of subscriptions depends on the required form. This could be a simple repeating circle or the shape of a chair.

The frame is ready, how to make a chair out of it?

Materials

A hammock chair can be made from different materials:

  • rattan or wicker;
  • with a base made of plastic or acrylic;
  • made of thick textile without frame;
  • non-standard models in the form of a drop.

Attention : when using the product outdoors, durable and wear-resistant materials are selected. They must cope with negative environmental factors and be resistant to rain, direct sunlight and ultraviolet rays and temperature changes.

As for the materials used to make the hammock chair, the type of construction and model are taken into account . The most common are:

  • Macrame. In this way, the products are decorated on a hoop, which is braided with a silk cord that is soft to the touch. Using this method, original products with fringe and various decorative elements are created.

  • Tarpaulin.
It is a fairly durable material and is perfect for outdoor use. The tarpaulin can withstand heavy loads up to 300 kg. It is not afraid of sudden changes in temperature, increased moisture, or direct sunlight. Its only drawback is the small selection of color palettes . This model will look harmonious on the veranda, in the garden or gazebo.
  • Textile. For these purposes, dense fabric is selected that can withstand weight up to 150 kg. Also, the selected material should not stretch or deform during operation. To increase the strength of the material, it is recommended to fold it in two layers. You should avoid light and easily soiled colors . Especially when using the product outdoors.

Making a simple lying hammock

this is the easiest thing to do: you will need thick fabric measuring 1 m by 2.5 meters, rope and two round wooden or metal strips. It needs to be tucked around the edges. It is necessary to drill holes at the ends for attaching the rope, leaving a reserve for the strips. The fabric must be folded and sewn on a drawstring for the straps, the holes for the loops must be processed. Next, insert the strips into the lace and secure the cords.

If the hammock is fixed on two supports located at some distance from each other, then one is enough for the chair.

Advice. To make it more comfortable to lie down in the hammock along its long edges, you need to make a drawstring through which a tight rope is threaded.

Hammock chair: master class

To make such a suspension you need to take fabric measuring 1.5 x 1.5 meters. Make a drawstring on both sides and 8-12 loops to hang them across the entire width of the side. Thread the lace through the lace for rigidity. Next, thread the ropes through the holes, which are connected on each side with a hanging loop. Both rings can then be attached to the base.

For convenience, strips can be inserted into the transverse part of the seat from below and from above.

Master class on making a nest

You need to take two circles and connect them in one place, winding them 50 cm. Then pull the fabric or cords onto the loom. On the opposite side of the connection, connect the circles with long ropes from 40 cm to 10 cm, shorter ropes should converge at the point of continuous connection of the circles. Attach 4 ropes to the bottom frame, attach the second frame to the back ropes shaped like a backrest. Connect the cords with a hanging ring and attach to the hanging ring. The nest is ready.

This place is ideal for those who love privacy.

These simple chairs can be made at home in 1-2 hours. And you can enjoy them for several years.

made of canvas on chains

Here, too, everything is simple - there is a chain + there is a metal triangle + there is a piece of thick tarpaulin.

We hang the iron triangles on a chain - we pass a piece of tarpaulin through the triangles - we bend its edge to the bottom and put 2 large rivets. Ready.

If there are no rivets, you can simply thread the bolts through and tighten them with nuts - and to prevent the bolt from breaking through the hole, then lay wide metal spacers on both edges. And with your own hands you quickly and easily made a soft garden swing from fabric.

MODEL FOUR – garden swing made from chairs.

There are three different ways to attach our rope to such a “chair-like” seat.

Method one (blue chair from the photo above ) - under the seat of the chair, we put 2 thick metal rods (one under the seat of the chair from the back - the other from the front under the seat). We cut round holes in the corners of the chair - thread ropes into them - and tie the ends of the steel rods with these threaded ropes. Thus, we get a rigid structure of our swing

Method two (yellow swing from the photo above) - we nail 2 boards to the bottom of the chair - we drill holes in them - we thread ropes into the holes and secure them with a fastening knot.

Method three (pink swing-chair) – We knock together a small shield from planks. We drill holes in it. We put it under the seat of the chair. We drill grooves in the seat of the chair (not holes - but grooves, that is, vertical cuts along the edge of the seat) 2 through grooves from the front corners of the seat + 2 grooves from the back side of the seat.

The ropes pass through the front grooves - go under the seat towards the shield - there they enter the front holes on the shield - come out of the back holes on the shield - and pass into the rear grooves of the chair seat - and go up to the support on which they hang.

This grooved design is very durable - remember?.. we have already made such grooved fasteners for swings in the article “Swings for a summer house - 20 ways to make them yourself.”

Standard sizes of rocking pendants

Hammock chair. Has a soft frame. Unlike the hanging bed itself, which is installed on a pair of posts, here it will be held by a shelving unit.

Nest chair. The most famous hammock. It is essentially a ball, and its mounting frame is a frame consisting of a three-quarter diameter tube.

Thanks to its elegant shape, it can be installed in the living room during the cold season.

Throw away the chair. An elegant rocking chair that takes up minimal space. The kids love it. And more often it is called children's. The child plays with it just like at home: the device resembles it in shape. Having played enough, they fall asleep there.

In your home, it is removed from the frame outside and attached to a hook on the ceiling; if concrete, then on a strong anchor.

Rocking chair. The frame can be hard or soft. The swing will decorate your garden or country yard. Only the little ones in the room will adapt to his swing so as not to hit the wall with his back. These are the best chairs for the garden. It can be attached to a large tree branch.

Features of the swing swing design

Having carefully studied the structure of the swing, you can draw a drawing yourself and easily make a rocking chair with your own hands. The design of any design works according to the same principle. The movable base is made of a horizontal crossbar, fixed strictly in the center to the stand. For the convenience of children, both edges of the movable crossbar are equipped with seats with handrails. The swing is powered by two children sitting on the edges of the crossbar by outweighing each other while simultaneously pushing off the ground with their feet.

The main condition for optimal swinging of the swing is approximately the same weight ratio of the children. If you make a balance beam from durable material, then even parents with small children in their arms can ride on it. By increasing the length of the crossbar, you get two seats on both sides so that four people can swing at the same time. If you add a support spring from a car shock absorber on both sides under the crossbar, it will be easier for small children to roll out.

An example of a diagram for building a do-it-yourself balancer swing

To make a children's swing, any material is suitable: metal, wood or plastic. The most common structures in dachas are log structures. With a little imagination and skill, the seats can be designed in the shape of animals or cars.

The main requirement for the design is that the rocking chair must be perfectly polished and fixed so that the child does not get hurt. Children's swings are designed for a minimum age of 5 years.

Chair based on a soft frame

The entire chair is made of fabric sewn in the shape of a bag with a hole. Attach a product such as a hammock to the top.

The base is a durable fabric folded in half. Any shape can be created, but during use it takes on the shape of the body.

To do this, you need to draw a picture and choose a size. For a child, a diameter of the lower base of 50-70 centimeters is sufficient; for an adult, 70-100 centimeters is suitable.

Cut out a circle and several triangles in diameter. Treat the edges of all parts with decorative materials. Sew the pieces together, leaving one part open.

As you can see in the photo of a handmade hanging chair, the furnishings and materials can be absolutely anything. The engine of ideas is your imagination.

garden swing-board on ropes.

Everything is simple here - there is a wooden board + there is a rope.

And only one task -

HOW TO FIX THE ROPE on this very board.

The first method is to drill holes in the seat board of a wooden swing and thread a rope through them so that it goes into one hole and comes out of the other.

To strengthen this structure (so that the board does not break in the place of the drilled holes), we also add seats under the board - on both edges - along a small board (also with holes). So that the rope passes through the seat board - and through the backup board pressed to the seat board.

The second method is when the seat of the garden swing looks like a wooden frame. We tie ropes to the frame (right and left) (as in the left photo below) - and pave the middle part of the frame with planks.

The third method is when the seat looks like half a cylindrical log (cut lengthwise). A very durable option (only such a log needs to be well planed and polished so that there are no splinters in the soft place).

Method four - you can screw through metal fasteners into the board... They come in different shapes - look in stores or in a shed.

And that’s not all the tricks... In my article “Swings for a summer house - 20 ways to make it yourself” you will find several more ways to attach a rope to a board... Everything there is also in clear pictures.

Sizing and drawing

Before you start making a chair, you need to decide what size it will be. In a large one, if you surround yourself with more pillows, of course, it will be more comfortable, but sometimes a small one can feel more comfortable. Also, if you have to use the chair indoors, its size will depend on the size of the room. A large object in a small room will look bulky and awkward, and there will be no feeling of comfort.

A child's hanging chair can have a seat size from 50 to 90 cm, and an adult's from 80 to 120 cm. The height of the finished structure will depend on the installation method. In order for homemade hanging chairs to be safe, it is necessary to calculate their load-bearing capacity with a margin. A child must withstand the weight of a seated person of about 90-100 kg, and an adult - 130-150 kg.

Having decided on the size and purpose, you can draw a small drawing on which the model will be depicted to scale. This simplifies the calculation of the dimensions of parts used in assembly. All elements of the frame can be drawn separately on paper, and then transferred to the blanks, increasing the size.

When drawing a picture, you can take any ready-made version as a basis or draw your own. It is very important to design the environment in which the chair will subsequently be installed or suspended, as its size must be determined taking into account the dimensions of the rest of the furniture. But the material for the seat will need to be adjusted during the work process, when the frame is ready. It is unlikely that it will be possible to calculate the amount of fabric or rattan from the drawings.

About metal swings

They most often make their own swings from wood: it is more familiar, more comfortable and easier to work with. But if, say, the whole world were to equip a children's playground, then a stronger and fireproof structure would be needed, so that the urchins would not have to be pulled back every now and then, and it would be difficult to damage the swing by hooliganism, which, alas, will not be tolerated. In such a case - in Fig. Below is a drawing of a classic, so to speak, yard swing made of metal: pipes, corners, strips, rolled wire, with a canopy. In the future, we will pay more attention to wooden swings, except for those cases when metal is needed for strength: for a sports corner for a teenager, etc.

Drawings of a metal swing

Note: there are also cases when metal as a structural material for a swing is chosen according to other criteria. For example, at pos. 1 pic. on the right is a forged swing. Their production requires high skill, and to order it is very expensive, but the prestige is obvious. But at pos. 2 in the same place - a metal swing made from channel scraps. For those who know how to handle a welding machine and an angle grinder, their construction is a half-day job, and the bright coloring masks the utilitarian nature of the material.

Technology

The boards are new or used, the latter are well used. Drill holes in them from the top and bottom to the entire length after 5 cm.

Then lay the boards underneath and tightly add the next piece of wood, threading the cord through the holes diagonally, and fasten the boards together. Next, we thread the cord from the wrong side, we get crosses with which we tie the boards along the holes.

According to the previous principle, you need to thread the cable from the reverse side. The lacing is tight, but loose: the straps should have some freedom. Once you have gone all the way, tie a strong knot in your back.

Next, drill holes for hanging the rocking chair - on the top panel from the bottom and the second from the top, slightly stepping back from the edge on both sides, focusing on the center of the bar. Job is done. Lay down a blanket and a couple of pillows.

garden swing for kids.

protective structure to the classic board swing that will prevent your baby from falling out of the swing.

The design of such children's wooden swings is very simple. Look... Let's say you have a board swing ... And you want to make a swing-with-a-protective-barrier . Here's how we do it...

  1. You need 4 tubes (metal or plastic, or even cardboard paper towel tubes work great, or a piece of hard garden hose).
  2. And we also need 4 planks with holes at the ends (the length of the planks must match the width and length of our board - that is, 2 planks equal to the length of the board + 2 planks equal to the width of the seat board. Drill holes in them so that the rope can fit through.

And then everything is simple.

  1. We thread the rope into the seat board - it comes out of 4 holes in our seat.
  2. We put a tube on each rope - and then on top of each tube through the rope we put our boards - in the order that is visible in the photo.

Like this - It’s easy and quick to make a children’s garden swing for kids with your own hands.

Or... you can do it like this... I’ll talk about this in detail in the article “Children’s swings - do it yourself”

Or you can sew a children's swing like this from fabric and wooden sticks.

I will also tell you about this... but separately... How to sew such a children's swing yourself step by step, I will tell you in a special article “Children's SWING - for the little ones SEW YOURSELF.” There will be all the sizes and a detailed pattern and sequence of actions. That is, this will be an article for mothers...

And at the moment dads are reading us ... And so we run on ... Now the most interesting thing will happen.

Of course, you already have a question...

QUESTION:

What support can such a swing be hung on?

LET'S LET'S LOOK RIGHT NOW...

A good woman, Olga Klishevskaya (now we met), has dug up for you as many as 3 options for support structures for garden swings.

And now I will tell you in detail and show in photos how and what to do, and what is the feature of each such support system.

SUPPORT for garden swing - with crossed beams

X-shaped support

Two beams are placed next to each other in the form of the letter X... a fastener is driven into the place where the beams intersect (piercing through both beams and secured at each end with a nut with a wide round spacer between the nut and the beam (as seen in the photo below)

And another beam is placed on these crossed support pillars - horizontally. It is also secured with the same fasteners .

And then to this horizontal lying beam we drive fasteners with rings into which we will thread the rope.

In the article “Swings for a summer house - 20 ways to make them yourself”, I already described in detail what carabiners there are for attaching ropes or swing chains to a horizontal beam. That’s why go there – you’ll find everything there (I won’t repeat it here – I’ll just show you in the picture).

Further…

Below - near the ground - these pillars can simply be dug in (that is, they were placed in holes in which the cement bottom had already been poured, leveled and the hole was filled with cement again).

Can you come up with fasteners like this... Invent or buy...

SUPPORT IN THE SHAPE OF THE LETTER A

It looks like this (photo below).

  1. The beams of the support pillars are applied to each other - at an angle.
  2. And they get knocked down by the crossbar at the bottom.
  3. On their tops inclined towards each other we place a transverse horizontal upper beam.
  4. And we attach this upper beam to the support pillars using additional short pieces of board.

OPTION for support for garden swings –

WITH METAL PIPE.

An excellent option - for those who have access to rolled metal products and a familiar welder who will make you such nozzle-nozzles to suit your size of timber...

Or you can make stands for garden swings - with branch pipes not from round pipes - but from rectangular profiles...

Or here (in the photo below) - a metal triangular plate - it takes on the main fastening load.

OPTION for L-shaped SUPPORT – with a beveled cut of the timber.

In the photo below, we see that here our bars do not intersect. They adjoin tightly to the horizontal beam - and adjoin at an angle. Therefore, in the upper part of our L-shaped support posts, the cut goes obliquely... so that with this oblique cut it adjoins the cross beam holding our swing.

Here (pictured above) the pillars are dug in and cemented. Therefore, the design turned out to be reliable and not shaky.

But if your garden swing is portable, or you want to install it on a porch (or podium) - that is, without digging... - then you need to additionally secure the spreading legs using a crossbar. So that from our letter “L” we get the letter “A”... as in the photo of the garden swing below. These are the types of swing models that can most often be found on personal plots - a stable A-structure.

And of course, most often such swings are found with a seat in the form of a bench ...

In my article “Outdoor swings - STEP BY STEP to make yourself.” I just showed in step-by-step photographs the work of one family in making just this model of swing

And in a special article “Swing benches - 12 WAYS to make with your own hands” I will show ALL THE VARIETY of the benches themselves and all the ways to hang them from the support posts of the swing.

But he won’t be distracted by hanging swing benches - this is another big topic... Bench swing models are for rocking tired city babes and tipsy guys... In the meantime, I want to focus your attention on the NEEDS OF NASTY AND RESTLESS CHILDREN...

AND THEREFORE…

... now we will make one GORGEOUS RETREAT ... and I will show you how you can turn from a master craftsman into ... a Super-Dad-Made-It-Yourself.

HOW YOU CAN VARIETY

the design of such a garden swing

(so that children have HAPPINESS)

Look... you can make additional side additions ... For example...

ARCHITECTURAL COURAGE - number one - we take the horizontal beam longer - so that its end extends beyond the support posts. And then you can hang another small swing there (photo below)... You no longer have to fight for a place in the sun...

And if the end of the lying beam is not long enough to fit another additional swing, then you can screw a rope ladder like this to it - or just a rope.

ARCHITECTURAL COURAGE is number two. Garden swing with ladder .

Or we knock together not TWO support posts from beams - but we make THREE such support posts at once . And we install the third rack next to one of the side ones... And between the side rack and this additional rack we stuff slats-steps ... We get a miracle ladder (photo below).

Fun and simple. Nothing difficult. Just think, I made one extra support post and found and cut some boards for the steps. Very cute - and the children already have a variety...

ARCHITECTURAL COURAGE – number three... Garden wooden swing with a slide.

This is if... - fill the ladder ONLY ON ONE SIDE - and attach a plastic slide ... In general, it turns out beautiful... Your children will be happy - and you will become dad of the year on your street.))

Moreover... pay attention - in this additional zone - between the racks (on top of the crossbars of the letter “A”) you can stuff boards - i.e. pave the whole area .

And this area can also be fenced with railings ... it’s actually pretty cool. You yourself will go nuts at the fact that YOU DID SO SO MUCH WITH YOUR OWN HANDS.

But in fact, everything is simple.

  1. We make racks - put a beam - hang a swing... The children shout “Wow! Thank you dad!"
  2. Then we scratch the back of our heads... we see that everything is standing and not falling... the swing is working, the children are happy... and we decide to CONTINUE.
  3. We make another support post (everyone thinks that you are making another swing, and they don’t suspect anything special).
  4. And you - bam - placed the support post next to the swing - between them the beams were filled horizontally (at the middle level of height) - and the floor was laid out with planks between the filled beams... The result was a platform
  5. and then the railings were filled around the area...
  6. and then the steps... adjusted
  7. and then they dragged the slide and placed it on the site. And the kids said again: “Wow!”

And it turned out to be a whole play complex for children to play in the yard. And you are a super dad.

And then... you scratched the pumpkin again... and decided to continue the GOOD THING...

And they put together ANOTHER supporting support-spreader.

And they placed it on the side where you have the slide... and they also put a transverse block on it... and paved another area

And to the site they made a ladder with padded boards and ledges (like for rock climbing - photo below).

And then my mother got involved and sewed a tent - with a hole and a window...

And the children said for the third time: “Wow!”

Of course, you have a question - Where can I get this plastic slide?...

The answer is they are for sale.

The product is called “slide slide” . These are the offers at prices for May 2014.

Of course, the price is not very pleasant... (about 150 dollars).. But once in a lifetime you can buy it... enough for a long time... for both grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

After all, answer yourself honestly... You don’t regret anything on spare parts for your favorite car... - and there’s no need to be greedy here... Either you buy a slide... or something breaks in your car again - and the money is lost... so you know . Saving for the happiness of children is harmful... it will definitely backfire...

Here's a tip to a site that sells everything necessary for craftsman fathers and grandfathers who are passionate about the idea of making a swing with their own hands.

So...))) let's move on...

Advantages and disadvantages of hanging models

A hanging chair, like any piece of furniture, has its pros and cons. The undoubted advantages of a handmade product include originality and uniqueness. This copy is absolutely exclusive, there are no others. Its second advantage is comfort. A comfortable soft seat that rocks in space promotes relaxation and tranquility.

The disadvantage of the design is the difficulty of carrying it. Disassembly takes a long time, and after a huge snag, the ceiling will be damaged. The pedestal chair is also too massive and heavy to constantly move.

What material can be used to make a balancer?

Modern swing swings are made of three main materials, each of which has its own characteristics and advantages.

Let's look at them in more detail:

  • Tree. The best way to make a rocking chair with your own hands for children. The wood is environmentally friendly, which means it is absolutely harmless to health. Due to its light weight, the child will not suffer any harm if it falls. This material lends itself well to processing with cutting tools. And with the application of high-quality protective coatings, the tree will serve faithfully for many years.
  • Metal. Allows you to obtain a high-strength, reliable structure. Unfortunately, metal swings are dangerous and difficult to manufacture. The latter requires professional tools and special skills.

  • Plastic. With this material, making a swing in the traditional Russian sense is impossible. The entire construction process consists simply of purchasing a ready-made kit and then assembling the structure according to the instructions provided.

Tire swing

Perhaps the most favorite swing for children is the one made from tires. The reasons for this are not only psychological or ergonomic; a rocker made from a tire is an excellent shock absorber in emergency situations, and an excellent swing material for an adult craftsman-dad. An unusable tire can simply be hung on a branch, pos. 1 in Fig., by cutting it, a flying trapezoid is obtained without much difficulty: the presence of steel cord in the mass of durable rubber allows you to do without eyelets. A solid tire will go on a rocking nest for collective gatherings of small children, pos. 3. When two or three people swing each in their own way, the trajectory of the rocking-nest on the suspension 1-3 or 1-4 makes even a person who knows mathematics and physics well scratch his head thoughtfully.

Tire swing

Finally, from tires cut and folded in different ways, single rocking chairs are obtained not only for children, but also for adults, pos. 4-6. The popularity of swings made from tires is so great that some sports and toy companies and companies specializing in goods for children produce, especially for swings... square tires, pos. 7! All that remains is to exclaim after the author of “Tartarin of Tarascon”: “Has anyone ever heard of something like this?”

How to paint a swing

The design of a simple swing does not allow for any tinkering with painting. However, if there are metal parts, then painting will be useful - they will look brighter, and special paint can protect against corrosion.

  1. Clean the surface. This is done with water, a rag and detergent - it's simple. If the swing has been painted before, then it makes sense to clean the surface with sandpaper. Dust may remain on the metal - it must be removed; you can do this with a regular napkin. There is a reason to put film on those parts of the swing that you do not want to paint.
  2. Next, we use an aerosol degreaser - it is needed to remove all the fat from the surface. The paint will adhere much better after this treatment.
  3. Let's start painting. It is best to use spray cans - they are convenient to work with, they cover the paint evenly and, what is also important, there are much fewer options for getting covered up. Before use, it is best to shake the can thoroughly - this will help stir the paint inside. You need to cover it at least three times. Move from layer to layer for 15 minutes (that is, paint every 15 minutes). This way the paint tone will be even.

  4. After everything has dried, you can remove the film from other parts. Admire the result.
