Disadvantages of automatic electric drive:

  3. Swing and sliding gates with a wicket door and automation cost about 3 times more than traditional mechanical designs.

Swing gates can open to a large angle. The exact opening angle depends on the hinges and the method of their installation. And this ability of theirs is not always for the good. By pushing the sash forcefully, you can damage what is nearby: a wall, a car, injure people and pets, etc. For convenient use of the entrance, it is enough for the doors to open 90° or perhaps a little more. To prevent the gate from opening too wide, use a gate stop. Sometimes the name is called a gate travel or movement limiter, a side stop or a limiter.


Swing gates are not only hinges and leaves. For normal functioning, stoppers/stops are also needed.

Gate travel stops

In the simplest case, a peg or metal rod stuck into the ground can limit the opening angle of the gate. It is better to pull a piece of rubber hose onto the rod. These are very economical options, aesthetically they are not very attractive. You can buy more presentable ones. In stores and at iron markets there are a variety of designs of gate stops. Usually this is a metal plate with holes for fastening, on which rubber cylinders are fixed. There are limiters for mounting on vertical and horizontal surfaces.


Stopper or travel limiter for swing gates

The designs are very simple. If you have welding and some experience with it, you can weld something similar. The problem may arise due to the lack of suitable rubber parts. But they are sold separately under the name “sliding gate travel limiters.” And by slightly changing the design, you can do without a cylinder. It is necessary to make the limiter pad in the desired plane. It will be possible to stick a couple of layers of thick rubber on it. The effect will be approximately the same.

Limiters for fixing in the closed position

There is another group of devices with the same name. These are limiters for swing gates when closing. They are usually needed for entrance gates without a threshold. Can be used for gates.

To prevent closed sashes from hanging in the air, small stands are installed where they stop, on which the edges of the sashes rest. This removes excess load from the hinges and increases stability in the wind.

Factory-made products can hold heavy structures very poorly. They cannot be used for massive gates to a warehouse or production workshop. A door design for the entrance to the garage is more suitable for this.

When installing swing gates, it is important to place emphasis on them. This action is due to the need to fix the structure when opening, since the slightest gust of wind can provoke spontaneous closing of the gate. The result will be a scratch or dent on the car, and in the worst case there is a risk of injury to a person.

This is especially dangerous when it comes to a child located at the exit of the garage. Special stoppers – ready-made or homemade – will help you avoid unpleasant consequences. Let's take a closer look.

Constipation

The most used and simplest option for fixing garage doors, suitable for any garage with a hinged structure. The principle of operation can be compared to a window latch, but the stopper has more impressive dimensions. In addition, the device is not mass-produced, but you can make it yourself without any problems.

To do this, prepare in advance:

  • steel tubes measuring about 15-20 cm in length and 1.4-1.6 cm in diameter, you will need two pieces - one for each leaf;
  • steel plates 15-20 cm in length and 8-10 cm in width;
  • pins for the pipe, at least 20 cm in size.

Types of gate stops. The process of making a stopper-constipation is divided into several stages and looks like this:

  1. The prepared steel tubes must be welded to the steel plates, then attached to the underside of the gate. If the sashes are sheathed in wood, a self-tapping screw should be used.
  2. Take a pin and weld a lever to its upper end. It will act as a handle. Instead, you can use a regular pin by bending its edges with a gas torch.
  3. At the next stage, you will need to open the gate and determine the place where future pipes will be driven in for fixing the pins. It should be noted that they must be driven into the ground to a depth of at least 30 cm, and the pin must enter them at least 10 cm. At this step, it is important to remember that garage door leaves sometimes have a higher position compared to the entrance itself.
  4. The last step is to weld a hook above the lock, the handle of the pin will rest on it. This is done so that it does not interfere with opening the garage “doors”.

It should be borne in mind that in this case the design will be less reliable.

Hook fastener

This type of limiter is also simple to implement, but has a slightly more attractive appearance. To make it you will need:

  • steel corners: one measuring 5 cm and approximately 70 cm long, the other 20 cm long;
  • steel bar with a diameter of 1.2 cm and a length of 10 cm;
  • additional materials: welding machine, drill, screws.

The fixation is performed in several stages:

  1. Take a large corner and drill 3 holes on one side - left, right and middle, then 2 more on the sides on the other side. Focus on holes with a diameter of 6 mm and 13 mm, respectively. The main condition is that the end of the rod must fit freely into the drilled holes.
  2. The next step is the most difficult - we make a hook from a rod. To do this, you need to bend the holder in the form of a hook, first heat it with a blowtorch. The other side is bent into a ring. The main thing is to leave gaps so that in the future you can put the hook on the canopy.
  3. Next, a smaller corner is used, from which there will be a canopy. In the top shelf you need to drill one hole measuring 1.4 cm in diameter and in the vertical shelf two more on the sides, but smaller - 0.6 cm. The first is used to fix the hook.
  4. At the end you need to secure the corners - the large one on the gate frame, the small one on the leaf. As in the case of the previous latch, welding is used for metal gates, and self-tapping screws are used for wooden gates. Then put on the hook.

Trap clamps

Devices of this type have a more complex design, but their big advantage is automatic fixation. There are two types of execution - with and without a spring.

Trap with spring

Before starting work, prepare:

  • profile tube measuring 5 by 3 cm;
  • a metal plate measuring 30 cm in length and 5 cm in width;
  • bolts;
  • spring;
  • ring.

A latch is created in several steps:

  1. The pipe must be buried in the ground, having previously made a hole in it for the plate; in the future, it will be the gate stopper. To make the structure more reliable, it is recommended to concrete it.
  2. You need to make a cone from one part of the plate, then weld a small overlay to it. It should protrude beyond the edge by about 2 cm and as a result the structure will look a little like a hook. Make holes on the other part of the plate and in the middle, one will be needed for fastenings, and the other for the spring.
  3. After installing the pipe, screw the clamp made in the second stage to it using bolts. A ring needs to be welded to the bottom, to which the end of the spring will cling. It will also return the stopper to its original position.
  4. To ensure a horizontal position, weld the clamp onto the pipe from the spring side. It can be made from scrap metal. The stopper operates by pressing the garage door against it.

Probably, many motorists have observed a situation where the gate suddenly closed on its own due to strong winds. This may result in damage to the vehicle and even injury to the vehicle owner.

To prevent such consequences, it is best to install a lock.


Constipation

At the same time, you can easily make a stopper or stop for swing gates with your own hands, since there are a large number of options. Fasteners are not regulated by GOST; everything depends only on the available materials and the imagination of the garage owner.

A similar circuit can work without a spring. In this case, a long tail is made from a strip. It should fall into place under its own weight as soon as the plate fixed at the bottom moves off the pawl, and lift the wide part - the latch.

Gate lock

Espagnols - simple and reliable

The disadvantage of such constipation is that it does not ensure a tight fit of the valves. But this type of valve is reliable and durable, practically unbreakable.

An espagnolette is a metal rod with a stop that rides on a rail. The espagnolette is inexpensive, and a simple mechanism can be welded from an ordinary iron rod.

How to make a simple latch:

  • you need two metal rods (diameter greater than 10 mm);
  • We attach a handle to the rod. For a horizontal latch, we weld the handle in the center of the rod, for a vertical lock - at the top;
  • for the groove you need a metal tube with a diameter slightly larger than the rod so that it is firmly fixed in the tube;
  • We weld the tube to one leaf or to the lower frame of the gate for a vertical latch;
  • On the other flap we attach the same tube, shorter in length. We carefully measure so that the tubes on the doors are at the same level and the rod moves easily and fits into the groove;
  • Additionally, to secure the closed lock, we weld an eye into which the handle of the rod must be inserted.

Vertical bolts, welded on two gate leaves, securely fix the gate closer to the center. You can dig the pipe groove directly into the ground, it will be more reliable and easier.

Advice. For vertical locking, you can use powerful hooks. You just need to weld the eyelet to the bottom frame of the gate and attach the hook to each leaf. The hooks also need to be placed closer to the connection of the sashes, this way the fixation is more reliable and there is no backlash.

Principle of operation

Simplicity of design is one of the main advantages of gates, which are also called panel gates. The metal sheet moves along an axis on metal guides from a horizontal to a vertical position and vice versa.

You can make similar gates yourself

The frame is the foundation of the structure, its leading part, to which the guides are attached. It must be durable and, as a rule, is made from a large-diameter profiled rectangular pipe or channels.

With the help of special rollers and lifting mechanisms, the structure moves along rails and stops when it reaches a horizontal position parallel to the ceiling. In this case, the upper or lower (depending on the design features) part also rises and protrudes slightly forward to the outer part. The springs of the mechanism are free in the open position, and stretched in the closed position.

Garage doors with a lift-and-turn mechanism come in the following subtypes:

  1. Articulated. They are in great demand. Compensation springs require careful adjustment. In this case, the gate shield directly moves upward.

Every person who is going to make a jumper with his own hands should become familiar with the main types of such a structure. This will help you understand their main features, disadvantages and advantages.

Brick

Many builders make connecting beams from bricks in garages. Their advantages include low cost and ease of manufacture. Experts do not recommend installing brick crossbars on load-bearing walls, as they will not cope with the load. In such cases, reinforced concrete or metal products are used.

There are several types of brick lintels:

  • Private. It is the simplest type of deadbolt that can be installed in a garage. It is made from ordinary bricks, which are laid over the opening in one row. The advantages of ordinary lintels include the fact that to create them, a person does not need to have experience in the construction industry.
  • Wedge-shaped. This type of crossbar is used only as room decoration. To create it, a special wedge type of brick is used.

  • PP. Such slabs have a width of 30-35 centimeters, which allows them to be installed in garages with thick walls.
  • PG. The only difference from other reinforced concrete structures is the recess that is made on the crossbar for the abutment of concrete slabs.
  • PF. These jumpers are rarely installed in garages, as they are intended for installation on the facades of private houses.

Metal

Some builders, instead of reinforced concrete and brick lintels, use a metal channel, which is made from an iron angle. Also, in the production of such products, channel and I-beam profiles are used.

The main advantages of iron structures include the following:

  • Strength. Metal corners can handle heavy loads without problems. Therefore, builders advise installing them in garages made from any building materials.
  • Installation speed. You can install the channel in the gate opening within 2-3 hours.

  2. Horizontal. The most popular retainer. Installed at the top, center or bottom of swing gates.
  3. Additional locking fasteners. Mounted on a gate frame or canvas.

The rotating mechanism is a vertical tubular post, which is strengthened by four support axes and a lever in the center. The design is easy to fold.

The bolt lock is quite strong and durable. There is a thread cut on it, through which a key with such notches passes. The bolt bar is held in place by a spring.

The sliding lock consists of two bars with rings. When moving one over the other and aligning the rings, a lock is inserted from the inside to secure it.

Safe mechanism

A wooden pinwheel is a simple and original solution for gates in the country. To make it, you need a long board, and the second one needs to be cut into 4 pieces.

A board is bolted to the edge of the sash. It should rotate freely around its axis. It should be placed in a horizontal position and places for fastening the staples should be marked. The easiest way to make them is from the second board. At the fastening points, gaskets are installed according to the thickness of the main lock.
