What tools and materials will be needed


To make a smokehouse made from a freon cylinder reliable and of high quality, you should select the appropriate materials and tools. For production you will need:

  • empty freon cylinder;
  • stainless steel mesh;
  • stainless steel wire;
  • profile pipe;
  • old frying pan;
  • dye.


To carry out the work you need:

  • welding machine;

  • bending machine;
  • clamp;
  • bolts;
  • drill;
  • nuts;
  • marker.

Modification of the freon cylinder


Before you assemble the smokehouse yourself, you should make sure that the cylinder you are using is empty, clean it and prepare it for further work. To do this, you should follow a number of procedures:

  1. Check the freon cylinder for any residual pressure.
  2. Remove old paint.
  3. Draw a straight line in a circle with a marker.
  4. Cut off the valve cover.
  5. Using a grinder, clean and smooth the edges on both cut parts.

Important! The edges must be perfectly smooth, otherwise smoke may leak, which will negatively affect the smoking result and make it impossible to use in a house or apartment.

As soon as the freon cylinder is modified, begin making a hydraulic barrier that will make the structure airtight.

How to make a water seal

To make a water seal you will need a square metal pipe. It should be 1 cm larger than the diameter of the cylinder. To bend the profile, it is convenient to use a homemade machine that is installed in a vice. One side of the curved element is cut off.

This is done with a grinder. It is important that the cut is smooth, otherwise the water seal will not perform its functions properly. After trimming, the edges should be sanded. Next, the edges of the metal profile are welded with a welding machine, having previously secured the profile with a clamp. The finished ring is welded to the body by welding.

Making pens

Handles can be made from available materials. It is convenient to modify the handles of the cylinder. To do this you need:

  1. The handles are cut in half. These will be the 2 handles for the smokehouse.
  2. Excess fasteners are cut off with a grinder.
  3. The resulting elements are welded to a freon cylinder.

To prevent the device from touching the bottom, a small holder is additionally made from a piece of wire or reinforcement.

What to make a food rack from


If you have a metal stand at home with microwave legs of a suitable diameter, then you don’t need to invent anything additional. It is easy to install into the camera. This is an ideal option for a home smokehouse from a freon cylinder. If there is no such part, then you can make a stand for food from mesh. It is convenient to measure the diameter using a fat collection pan. A circle of the required size is cut out of a piece of mesh. To give it rigidity, the element is attached to a piece of rigid wire.

To secure the stand in the housing, 3 holes are drilled at the seam level of the freon cylinder. Bolts are screwed into them onto which the grate for food will be installed. Some people are confused by the distance from the mesh to the lid. To lower the grille lower, you can use studs instead of bolts. They can be easily bent into a Z shape. Making a smokehouse

Use a marker to make a mark in the upper part of the cylinder and cut it off with a grinder. Make sure that there is no flammable gas in the cylinder, otherwise the consequences may be dire!

Making a water seal

Now we begin to manufacture the water seal, which will be made from a 15×15 profile pipe. In this case, the diameter of the cylinder is 80 cm, so we make a reserve of 10 cm, mark the profile and cut it off according to the mark.

For a water seal, the profile pipe must be rolled into a ring. In this case, a homemade mini bending machine for a vice was used, an article about which will appear on our channel a little later.

Next, we cut off one of the sides of the ring, this must be done carefully so as not to spoil the part!

Using a petal circle, we remove all burrs and irregularities.

Next, we clamp the ring with a simple carpentry clamp and weld it into one piece.

Then we weld the ring to the cylinder, with the groove up, the sawn-off lid should easily fit into the groove of the water seal.

Making pens

Now you need to make handles for carrying the smokehouse; for this you can use any suitable material, but in this case, handles from the same freon cylinder were used. We cut them in half and get 2 good handles.

We remove the excess fastening from the handles and weld them to the cylinder.

Refinement of the cover

We remove the cylinder to the side and begin to modify the lid. We cut off the valve with a hacksaw, since it contains plastic and when heated, harmful toxic substances will be released!

After the valve is cut, you need to drill out the resulting hole with a drill with a diameter of 8 mm.

Container for collecting fat

Then you need to make a container to collect the fat; in this case, an old aluminum frying pan was used, which fit perfectly into the container. We cut off the handle and rivets.

Making a grate for food

An ordinary mesh with thick wire and small windows is suitable for this. Place the frying pan on the mesh, mark it by diameter and cut out a circle.

Next, we make a ring of thick wire, preferably using a pipe bender, and weld the mesh to it. It turned out to be a pretty good lattice!

Next, we grab three nuts inside the cylinder, in the place where the seam is located, so that our grill can be placed on them.

Then we drill a hole in the center of the frying pan and insert a ring there, with the help of which, after smoking, you can easily remove it from the smokehouse.

To ensure that the frying pan does not lie on the bottom, we make a small stand for it from thick wire or fittings. Well, in principle, the smokehouse is almost ready, and before we burn it with paint, we do a test assembly and make sure that all the parts fit and are easy to install.

Firing and painting

Now we light a fire and place all the parts of the smokehouse in the fire in order to burn them.

After the firing is completed, we clean the metal and paint the outside of the smokehouse. Well, the smokehouse is ready, all that remains is to test it.

Test and conclusion

Pour the required amount of wood chips onto the bottom of the smokehouse, distribute it in an even layer, and place a support for the frying pan on top.

Then we install the frying pan itself (a container for collecting fat) and the grate in its place.

We put what we want to smoke on the grill, in this case, it’s delicious lard with a layer of meat.

Cover it with food foil and close the mug.

We put the smokehouse on coals or gas, I recommend first making a delivery underneath so that the smokehouse does not stand on the coals themselves, but is located above them.

I wanted to make my own smokehouse; I had this empty freon cylinder available.

I plan to smoke at home, so I decided to make a water seal. I made it from a 260 mm ring and a 15 mm bent profile. Bulgarian cut out the inside.

Then, the cylinder was cut (the cylinder must be cut completely empty, observe safety.), The water seal was welded to the cylinder.

To make the smokehouse stand more stable on the gas stove, a ring made of a profile with a diameter of 160 mm was welded to the bottom of the cylinder.

I cleaned the container of paint, Bulgarian with a petal disk, initially I thought of painting the structure with heat-resistant paint.

Advice! It is better to clear the container of paint from the very beginning, and then work with it.

After cleaning the smokehouse, paint remained in hard-to-reach places, I burned it with a gas torch. And then it dawned on me, just burn the entire structure with a torch. I made two holes in the lid and inserted a grill thermometer and a nipple from the camera there.

I made this stand for the container.

To hang smoked products, I unscrewed the faucet from the lid and screwed in this device in its place. I took an M12 bolt and two pieces of studs. I cut a thread in the lid.

And here is the result. The smokehouse works perfectly, there is no smell of smoke in the apartment.

The simplest homemade electric smokehouse is made from a freon cylinder and an electric stove.

Greetings to all DIY lovers! I want to tell you how I made a smokehouse from a freon cylinder and an electric stove. I've been smoking for quite some time now. I smoke in a cauldron, but it’s a chore, you need to light a fire, and the power of the gas stove is not enough to warm up the cauldron. Therefore, I decided to make a hot-smoked electric smokehouse.

I looked at many options and chose the most affordable one, from a freon cylinder. The actual manufacturing process is shown in the photo.

We take a grinder and saw off the lid of the cylinder. We buy the simplest electric stove with one burner. I took “Vasilisa” for 430 rubles, it has a spiral-shaped burner, a thermostat (by the way, an absolutely harmful thing in this case), a power cord and a housing with legs. We unscrew the burner and try on the bottom of the cylinder in its place.

Then we cut holes in the cylinder for the burner terminals and for fastening to the tile body. The burner is attached only with a central screw, but this turned out to be not enough, so I additionally secured the cylinder to the body of the tile with 3 bolts so that everything was secure and did not wobble. Next, we place the burner in the cylinder and tighten everything through the central hole. It turns out that the cylinder is sandwiched between the burner and the body of the tile. the result is a very stable structure, despite the fact that the body is made, so to speak, of foil and bends by hand, after tightening all the screws - a monolith!

The lid fits with a diameter of 24 cm from the frying pan, it is glass, a new one in the store costs 170 rubles, and it fits perfectly, as if it should be there, it is convenient to observe the smoking process through it.

The spiral heats up to red, the temperature in the smokehouse is about 200 degrees, my kitchen thermometer doesn’t measure anything else. Next, in the same store with dishes, we buy a 24 cm stainless steel bowl. Wood chips will be poured into it. price approximately 100-130 rubles.

The bowl should be high; we place a grate on its sides, on which the smoking process actually takes place. To prevent the fat from the product from burning, cover the top of the chips with foil; fat will drip into it. In general, testing today was a success! I smoked pink salmon and perch. It turned out just great, my friends appreciated it! Next was lard, which was also good, but too much fat was rendered, it leaked into the chips and began to burn, the lard got an unpleasant bitter taste, but was still eaten.

Now about the identified design flaws:

  • 1. The lattice must be made from normal thick wire or found ready-made, I cut it from a thin construction mesh, it is very inconvenient to get it out.
  • 2. The thermostat is an absolutely useless thing. it reacts to the heating of the stove body and after the body warms up, it very often turns off the coil. I ended up turning it off completely; later I’ll install a regular dimmer to adjust the power.

Total spent:

  • 430 rubles – “Vasilisa” tile.
  • 0 rub – cylinder.
  • 130 rubles - bowl.
  • 170 rubles - cover.

As a result, only 730 rubles were spent on materials. As a result, we got a budget do-it-yourself electric smokehouse, now for smoking, there is no need to bother with firewood and a fire.
