Building the back

And another simple option is to sew an openwork braid along the bottom of the shorts. The choice of colors is huge. You can match the braid to both plain fabrics and fabrics with patterns. You can sew a ruffle at the bottom from leftover fabric. Such an element will decorate the product well. With such simple decor, even the simplest shorts will look original.

Construction

To sew knitted shorts for a child for the summer or autumn-winter season, you need to make a pattern. Modeling future shorts must be done carefully. Since the success of the work will depend on the pattern. To get a beautiful thing, you need to measure the half-circumference of the waist with the length of the product, the half-circumference of the hips, the length of the product along the side seam, the height of the waist from the place under the buttock.

Necessary measurements to create a product

To ensure that the shorts fit freely to the body, it is worth adding a few centimeters at the edges. For classic models you need to add 5 centimeters.

Typically, knit or cotton shorts are cut using a trouser pattern. Therefore, below is the trouser pattern. To make a pattern, you need to draw the lines of the hips, the length of the seat and the direction of the warp thread. Next, mark the direction of the grain thread and accurately transfer it from the trouser template to the shorts template. Before cutting, remove the fabric edge, lay it face to face and align the edges. Their direction is a shared thread. This material must be laid on the pattern of the front of the product and the fabric boundaries must be marked with chalk. Then cut the fabric along the created boundaries and perform the corresponding actions with the back half of the pants.

Preparing fabric for sewing involves cutting and finishing edges by basting or removing threads by fire. To answer the question of how much fabric is needed to sew shorts, you need to indicate that the standard width of a textile roll is 150 centimeters. One length with a margin of four centimeters will be enough. It should be clarified that the width will depend on the volume of the hips. If the fabric is narrow, then you will need to take fabric for two lengths of the product.

Note! To decorate the inside of the pockets, you need to use fabric with a fine structure. To sew lightweight calico, linen or cotton shorts, a main or lining fabric can be used for the pockets.

If you are working with fabric for the first time, you should take ready-made shorts. In this case, you need to carefully fold the garment along the seam to create half of the back part. Then carefully draw a line of the hips with the length of the seat on paper, indicating the direction of the line. Do the same with the back half. Then draw the belt.

Building the front of the model

When building the front of the model, it is important to take into account the characteristic features of the child’s physique. Only those shorts and trousers that are of the same size are suitable for the pattern. If the product contains additional parts, then more complex steps will be required.

Shorts with elastic

So, I created my own pattern for children’s shorts with an elastic band. They are the most comfortable for a child to sew and wear. Be sure to allow seam allowances. If the elastic is thin - ordinary underwear, then you can make 2-3 drawstrings by stitching the waistband.
