Master class “Ears for a squirrel”
Ainura Akmatova
Master class “Ears for a squirrel” The other day, Lady Autumn came to our group to say goodbye until next year!
The children were waiting for her with great impatience and, of course, were preparing for her arrival. We had great fun learning songs and poems, and most importantly, preparing and putting together our outfits! We, the teachers, were waiting for her arrival and anxiously made attributes for the children’s heads. there were forest animals, including baby squirrels! So we decided that this time our squirrels would be different and together with the girls we made “ ears ” the way they wanted. Nastenka is the smallest girl in stature, she decided that her “ ears ” would be like herself (according to the Federal State Educational Standard we must adhere to INDIVIDUALIZATION of the child)
look what came of it!
A piece of fabric is 10 cm wide, 6 cm long. fold in half and stitch on the side to form a rectangle and cut into “tassels” on either side
Next, gather the tassels into a bunch and fill them with cotton wool for the shape.
ears ” onto regular clothespins
there is another option - crocheted (maximum time for work is 20 minutes)
and here’s how these “ ears ” looked at the holiday
Such “quick production attributes” are very convenient in any type of activity!
We say goodbye to summer, welcome autumn! We decided to spend the Autumn Festival outside. It was sunny days. Mrs. Autumn was greeted by Mrs. Summer along with the children. Children meet.
Maslenitsa Maslenitsa is the most widespread holiday in Rus'. People from time immemorial have been waiting for it impatiently, preparing, gathering in large groups.

Squirrel
Hello my felt friends!
Today, together with you, we will sew another toy for the New Year tree! Let's put a Squirrel on our tree!
So, to sew such a figurine with a height of 14-15 cm, we will need:
2. Felt: red, white, pink, black, green (I will use the thinnest (1mm) soft polyester Spanish felt)
3. Threads: red, black, white, pink
5. Great New Year's mood and desire to create! =)
So from red felt we cut out 2 parts of the head, 4 parts of the lower legs, 4 parts of the upper legs, 4 parts of the ears, 2 parts of the tail and 2 parts of the body.
From white felt, according to the pattern, we cut out one piece of the muzzle, one piece of the belly and one piece of the pattern on the tail. From pink felt we cut out two parts for the pink part of the ears.
Take one of the head parts and attach a white muzzle to it. Sew the muzzle with white threads using a “back needle” seam, as shown in the diagram, along the upper edge
Using the same seam we sew the white belly of the squirrel along the inner edge.
We apply a white pattern to the tail part and sew it completely with white threads using a “back needle” seam.
Now let’s attach the pink parts of the ears to the corresponding red parts and sew them with pink threads using a “back needle” seam. The bottom edge, which will be sewn into the head, does not need to be stitched
We also randomly cut out a wide triangle from pink felt and round its corners. We got a wonderful nose for our squirrel
We attach the nose to the squirrel's muzzle and sew it with pink threads using a “back needle” seam.
Using a self-disappearing marker, draw a smile and teeth on the face. We embroider the details with double black thread using a “back needle” stitch.
We will also draw future eyebrows with a self-disappearing marker and also embroider them with double black thread using a “back needle” stitch.
Now we begin to sew and stuff the parts with padding polyester. We arrange the lower paws in pairs
Finish the overlock stitch and trim the thread. We sew the second paw in the same way.
We put together the parts of the upper paws in pairs. We sew and stuff the legs with padding polyester, as we did earlier

Working on crafts with your child is not just an interesting way to diversify your leisure time. It is very useful for the overall development of the baby, as it allows you to activate fine motor skills and use imagination. Collaborative creativity will become even more fun if the result is a craft that you can fully play with.
The squirrel is considered one of the cute and interesting representatives of the animal world. In addition, children are familiar with it from fairy tales.

Master class for teachers and parents “Ears for a Squirrel costume made of felt”
I bring to your attention a master class on making ears for “ Squirrel costume . This master class will be useful for both educators and parents . This year at the autumn matinee one of the dances was the “ squirrel girls ” dance. For the dance, I decided to make beautiful squirrel ears , which are quite easy and simple to put on the little artists’ tails.
To make the ears we will need : white and orange felt , tulle and an orange hair elastic, thread with a needle, Titan glue, satin ribbon 2.5 mm wide, scissors.
We cut out the following blanks from felt
to the upper edge of the white .
Then we glue both pieces together.
The glued blanks must be placed under a press, so the glue will harden evenly and give hardness to our future ear.
Sew on a hair elastic.
Instead of a hair tie, you can use a banana clip to attach the ears to the girl's ponytails. Then the ear will need to be glued to it with a glue gun.
We tie a bow from a satin ribbon and glue it to the ear.
Our ear is ready, although there is only one for now.
That's how many ears I got!
And this is the first fitting!
Here are my artists - real squirrels !

Feeder and house for squirrels
Funny animals can be found not only in the forest, but also in urban areas. If desired, you can make a squirrel feeder and even a house from wood or scrap materials.
This will give you the opportunity to observe these interesting animals with your children.
Feeder out of the box
As a basis for a squirrel feeder, you will need a medium-sized box, larger than those from which bird feeders are usually made. A large shoe box or household appliance packaging will do.
The easiest way is to run the cord under the part of the box that will serve as the roof. And use it to hang the feeder on a tree branch. The box should have a large “window” on the side for animals to access the food.
A more durable option would be a wooden feeder. It should be done according to the same principle as for birds. But taking into account the size of the animals.
How to make a headband with squirrel ears
I offer a master class on creating squirrel ears. This headband is suitable for New Year's holidays at school or matinees in kindergarten. For the ears we need:
- hard orange felt, 1 mm thick;
- synthetic threads, wound bezel;
- cones (mine are natural);
- berries;
- decorative branches;
- acrylic white paint to create a snow effect.
I made the pattern for the ears myself and this product has a right and a left ear. We will glue threads between the parts of the ears; I used 5 pieces, which first need to be combed or fluffed. In order to form tassels, you need to spray the threads with varnish and twist the threads in the desired direction. Next you need to decorate the ears with winter forest decor. First I glued the shiny thuja branches, then the pine cones. I trimmed the cones, since they did not suit me in height, and I also glued small berries and berries in sugar. After all the parts are glued, I will paint the cone with white paint for a snowy effect. Our ears are ready! The headband turned out to be winter and forest-like; it will go well with a suit or can be an independent decoration for the New Year holidays. Happy New Year holidays to everyone! Bye bye!

To make a toy squirrel we will need:
- orange and white fabric (fleece is best);
- three black beads (one larger for the nose and two smaller for the eyes);
The procedure for making a toy squirrel
1. Let's draw a squirrel pattern. We will need the following parts: head, front part of the body, tail, paw, back part of the body and ear. In addition, on the front part of the body you need to draw a tummy in the form of an oval of a slightly irregular shape.
2. Cut out from orange fabric:
All these parts need to be cut with seam allowances.
3. From white fabric we cut out:
4. Sew darts on the details of the head.
5. Fold the tail pieces with the wrong sides facing out and stitch, leaving an unstitched area at the base of the tail.
6. Sew a white tummy to the front part of the body. It is best to sew with a zigzag seam.
7. Sew off the details of the legs completely, leaving no holes. (Photo 9)
8. We will fold each ear from two parts - white and orange and sew them, leaving the unsewn side at the bottom of each ear.
9. Sew a squirrel’s head from two parts. In the neck area we will leave the edges unsewn.
10. Place the front part of the body face up, and attach the back parts of the body to it. Sew them in the area of the paws and on the sides.
11. Now let’s sew the back parts of the body together, leaving a hole at the bottom.
12. Let's turn out all the parts. There should be seven parts in total - head, torso, tail, ears, paws. To turn the paws out, you will have to cut small holes in them with sharp nail scissors.
13. Now you need to tightly stuff the parts with padding polyester. We will fill in all the details, even to the ears.
14. After this, sew up the holes on the back of the body and on each paw.
15. We will not sew up the hole on the head, but will sew it directly to the body. When sewing, we will use a blind seam, while we need to slightly tuck the free edge of the fabric on the squirrel’s neck.
16. Sew the paws tightly to the body, trying to position them symmetrically.
17. We won’t sew up the hole in the tail either, but sew it to the body just like this.
18. Carefully sew small ears on our squirrel, placing them with the white sides forward.
19. The last stage remains - sewing on the nose and eyes. We will make the nose from a large black bead, sewing it tightly with black threads, and we will make the eyes from smaller beads, also using black threads for sewing.
Our toy squirrel is ready. The child can play with this squirrel as with an ordinary toy. Or you can use the squirrel to decorate the baby’s room, for example, put it on a windowsill or shelf, and place the squirrel’s favorite delicacies – pine cones or nuts – next to it.

How to make a carnival squirrel costume for a girl for the New Year
Squirrel ears
- Find a regular plastic hair band. Wrap it with an orange satin ribbon, secure the ends well with glue so that the ribbon does not slip off the hoop.
- Cut out 2 small isosceles triangles - blanks for the ears. Transfer the pattern to the foam rubber (you can use regular hangers).
- Fold the orange organza onto the foam ears so that one side is transparent and the other is not. Sew the ears, cut off the excess fabric.
- Sew the ears to the hoop, folding them in half so that they stand upright on the top of the head.
- Make faux fur tassels at the tips of the ears.
Ears for a squirrel can be easily made using a hair hoop.
Squirrel skirt
The easiest way to sew a skirt is from a rectangular piece of thin orange fabric. Gather it at the waist and sew it at the back. Insert the elastic into the waistband. If desired, decorate with satin ribbons. Make a cute tail and bib from felt. Make arm ruffles from the leftover fabric from the skirt.
Advice. Use lining fabric or tulle so that the child does not feel hot at the matinee during games and competitions.
Soft toy squirrel
Traditional crafts for children's games are soft toys, sewn by hand. The simplest of them will not require much work experience, and they will not take long to make.
Yarn squirrel
An interesting and easy-to-make squirrel will be made from pompoms.
To work you need to prepare:
- orange (yellow or red) yarn,
- cardboard,
- beads,
- scissors,
- threads,
- a needle.
- You need to cut out two circles with a diameter of 4 and 6 cm from a sheet of cardboard, and make holes in them with a diameter of 2 cm.
- Wrap the yarn tightly onto cardboard discs and cut it very carefully along the outer edge.
- The middle is fixed and tightly tied with thread. Remove the cardboard circle and shake the finished pompom. Two pom-poms form the head and body of the animal.
- For a ponytail, it’s more effective to make a pompom from curly yarn. A circle of cardboard is cut out with a diameter of 10 cm, and a pompom is made.
- The ears can be made in the form of small tassels. To do this, you need to wind the yarn on a rectangular piece of cardboard, cut the yarn on one side, and gather it onto a thread on the other. Additionally, wrap a thread around part of the resulting tassel to give the ear the desired shape.
- The ears are attached to the head with threads; they connect the head, body and tail of the squirrel.
- The squirrel's face is decorated with beads.
If you wish, you can also sew a soft squirrel toy from fabric. Numerous patterns can be found on the Internet. Options of varying complexity are designed for experienced craftswomen and beginners.
Interesting squirrels can be molded from plasticine or salt dough. Dough figures can be painted with gouache or acrylic paint.
Final image
When preparing a squirrel costume, you can do your child’s makeup with your own hands. These can be special designs on the face: a black dot on the nose - the nose of an animal, as well as mustaches will greatly enliven and complement the image. For schoolgirls, you can lightly brown your face, apply pastel-colored eye shadow, and light lip gloss.
New Year's tinsel is what will truly decorate the outfit. It can be sewn to the edges of clothing next to the fur or even instead of it.
Tights or socks, shoes can be the same color as the main suit or white.
Main stages of work
Now let's return to the question of how to make a squirrel costume, namely ears. The white and orange parts of the future ears must be folded right side out and secured with pins. Insert the brush inside so that only its tail sticks out at the top of the ear. Carefully stitch the part, leaving about 2 cm unstitched at the bottom, in order to fill the ears with foam rubber through this hole.
Duplicate one more ear. After this, turn out the sewn parts. We can already say that it is very beautiful. But you need to carry out the work further and fill them with foam rubber to create volume. The foam rubber must be inserted carefully so that it does not shrink inside, but lies flat. After this, compress the ears from below and stitch them, now they look just like real ones. All that remains is to sew them to the elastic bands or to the headband. That's it, you can try it on. And if you also make a nut out of foam rubber and decorate it beautifully, you will get a squirrel costume from “Ice Age.”
Spectacular squirrel costume
Funny animal costumes are suitable for all children without exception. Cute bumblebees, kittens, hares, foxes, dogs are win-win options. Well, the squirrel is a fun classic! Try making a squirrel costume with your own hands (photo).
What a squirrel costume might look like:
- A costume made according to the kigurumi principle.
- Dress or sundress.
- A skirt with a vest or cape.
- Short shorts and matching pantaloons are often worn under skirts and dresses.
Important! Mandatory components of a squirrel costume are ears and a fluffy tail.
It is good to complement the costume with images of nuts, acorns, and squirrels.

We complement the suit with accessories
It's time to start working on the squirrel ears. Let's consider two options.
To execute the first option, you need to take a suitable headband and tulle pieces of different shades. Wrap them around the hoop and use a thread and a needle to baste the parts to the base. Tie the tops with thin satin ribbons in the form of bows, leaving tassels.
This is done easily, simply, and the result is excellent.
The second method is even simpler, but will bring no less joy to the child. Gather your hair into two tight ponytails and wrap red satin ribbon in columns. Try to wind it so that you get cones.
You can simply sew fur pieces onto hair elastic bands. Or you can twist naughty buns with the ends sticking out from the center.
Sew the tail
It's time to move on to the most important step. We sew a tail from the fur that we bought in advance. The result should be a frame 45 cm high. The fur should be folded in half and sewn so that the length of the fur cover is slightly more than 45 cm.
Everything needs to be sewn by hand, folding the parts with the fur inside. When all the seams are done, we simply turn the fur inside out and we get a beautiful squirrel tail. All that remains is to put it on the previously constructed frame.
If you have never sewn anything before, you may encounter a problem. Due to the weight of the structure, the tail will not hold up and will constantly fall. But there is a way out. On the back side you can sew two thin fur harnesses. They will be put on the back like a backpack and thus hold the tail in a vertical position, like a real squirrel.
Selection of materials
Carnival costumes are usually made from bright, inexpensive fabric.
- various types of fleece;
- lining fabric;
- tulle;
- organza;
- velvet, plush, panvelvet.
Often used items are used - mother's beautiful dresses, remnants of curtains, and so on. For a costume in which the child will spend only a few hours, this is completely normal.
Often natural or artificial fur is used for animal costumes.
Advice! If you have old fur items that are no longer in use, you can tint the fur with permanent hair dye in a bright “squirrel” color.
First check on a small area of fur how it will behave when in contact with water. If the inner layer does not swell or tear, then you can safely paint it.
Faux fur cannot be dyed with hair dye!
Light old fur can be easily dyed red or orange.
How to make a squirrel tail with your own hands
A carnival costume for a child can be bought in a store, or you can make it yourself. This is not very difficult, especially if you have the necessary materials at hand. Before you start work, look into your child’s wardrobe, take a closer look at the things and think about what item you can use as a basis. squirrel for a matinee in one evening
Skirt cut for the Squirrel costume
You can do without a special pattern. It is easy to cut out a sun skirt by marking it directly on the fabric. To do this, fold the fabric 4 times, in half and in half again. From the corner of the laid square, i.e. from the center, set aside the length Hip circumference/6 in both directions. We take exactly the length of the circumference of the hips (maybe even a little more), and not the waist, because... An elastic band will be inserted into the inner diameter, so it should be slightly larger than the width of the hips so that the skirt can be easily worn over the legs. Using a centimeter from the corner, we place a few more marks at the distance Hip circumference/6 and connect the marks with a smooth semicircular line. We also do the same with the bottom of the skirt, setting aside (length of the skirt + Ob/6) from the corner of the square. We also connect the marks with a rounded smooth line.
We cut out the skirt along the marked lines. I cut out a skirt 25 cm long. I decided to make the skirt four layers. The two bottom layers are brown, 25 cm long. The next layer is an orange skirt, also 25 cm long. The top layer is an orange skirt, 15 cm long. You should get these blanks.
Let's start sewing the Squirrel costume
The bottom edge of each skirt is finished with a double hem with a closed cut. We make the fold no more than 5 mm.
We connect all four skirts along the top edge, matching the seams. To make the work easier, we first connect two brown skirts and two orange ones separately, and then use a third stitch to connect the double pieces. We cut a strip of brown fabric 10 cm wide and equal to Ob + 5 (7) cm in length. The strip of fabric will be a belt. We sew the strip along short sections into a ring. Closer to one of the edges you should leave a hole of about 1 cm for an elastic band. Press seam allowances in different directions. Place the belt right side together with the wrong side of the skirt. Let's make a line.
We turn the belt to the front side, bend it in half, fold the edge and adjust it to the front side of the skirt. We insert an elastic band into the belt.
We insert a fishing line into the edge of the hem so that they rise and go in a wave.
The heavier the fabric you use, the thicker the line needed. We fix the ends of the fishing line with thread, making several stitches so that it does not jump out. Waves can be recorded if they bother the child. Fold them into a circle and secure with a satin ribbon bow.
Pre-sew a brown ribbon between two orange skirts.
The skirt for the squirrel costume is ready.
Squirrel costume top
Take an orange T-shirt and sew fur along the neckline. It turns out to be a fluffy collar.
Sew a ribbon onto the back of the T-shirt. Subsequently, she will hold her tail.
Because This T-shirt has an unnecessary pattern, I sewed an additional piece of fur. My squirrel will have a white fluffy belly.
We complete the image of Squirrel - apply makeup
Kids always love festive makeup. You can get by with just a cute nose and mustache, or you can draw a bright animal face.
To do this, you will need face painting in orange-brown tones, a white tone and dark contour pencils.
- We tint the area of the cheeks and forehead with a yellow-orange tone with transitions
- Above the lips we draw light animal cheeks
- Alternating light and dark shades, draw fur
- Add the nose and mustache at the very end
So your DIY squirrel costume is ready! Under such an outfit, all you have to do is add a white T-shirt or gymnastics leotard, tights, leggings or knee socks, as well as comfortable shoes - and you can go to the matinee.
Winter holidays and carnivals are ahead. Children's matinees are unthinkable without costumes. You need to remember that not every carnival costume will please your child. Princess, snowflake, fairy, and butterfly costumes are suitable for skinny girls; a plump girl will feel uncomfortable in it.
Step-by-step instructions on how to sew a squirrel costume
Making squirrel ears
The look of a squirrel would be incomplete without perky ears. We can get them in the following ways:
- By making an “ears” hairstyle from braids.
- By constructing a headband with “ears”.
- Sewing a squirrel’s “eared” hat.
Headband with ears
Required:
- simple headband;
- satin ribbon or bias tape;
- fleece, organza and so on (usually scraps of the main material);
- old shoulder pads or foam rubber;
- matching threads;
- scissors;
- needle;
- PVA glue.
Progress:
- We fix one end of the tape to the rim with glue, gradually wrapping it completely.
- We cut out triangular ears from foam rubber or shoulder pads.
- We cover them with the main fabric. If desired, we make tassels on the ears.
- We sew the ears to the headband and first try on the position of the ears on the child.
- The headdress is ready.
Felt products
Such accessories look very nice, they are light and hold their shape well. You will need the following materials:
Hard felt.- Dummy knife.
- Scissors.
- Cutting mat.
- Pattern paper.
- Fabric glue.
- Needle and thread.
- Stationery clips.
- Marker or chalk.
Print a pattern drawn by hand or in a graphic editor. You can make it easier if you enlarge or reduce the image of the pattern on your computer to the desired size and print out a squirrel mask for your head.
The product will fit better on the face if darts are made in its upper part. The mask can be secured to the head using a headband or hair clips.
You can experiment first by cutting out a pattern from paper. Then glue it together and try it on. This way, it will become clear whether the attribute size is appropriate or not. If necessary, adjust the pattern, cut and glue again. Continue these steps until the mask fits perfectly.
Squirrel costume
The New Year's party will be a great opportunity to start creating a funny squirrel costume. Making a squirrel costume for a girl is not a labor-intensive process.
To work you need to prepare:
- 1 meter of bright orange tulle, about half a meter of brown to decorate the tip of the tail,
- elastic for belt,
- for sewing a tail, a bib and making ears about a meter of fabric or fur,
- wire,
- scissors,
- sewing supplies,
- children's hairband (for attaching ears).
Step-by-step master class
- The skirt is made by tying tulle ribbons onto an elastic belt. The more ribbons, the more magnificent the tutu skirt will be.
- The bib shirt is sewn from fabric or fur.
- The tail is an important element of the costume. For the base you will need a wire frame. Square pieces of tulle are attached to it, folded four times (the folding pattern is similar to the folding pattern of paper for cutting out a snowflake).
- The ponytail is attached to the belt of the skirt.
- Triangular-shaped ears are glued to the hairband.
For convenience, the tail can be additionally attached to the back of the T-shirt with a few neat stitches. If there is no tulle, the skirt can be made from another fabric. But in this case, a fluffy tutu will not work; it is more convenient to cut out and sew the details of a classic children's style skirt.
It’s also easy to sew a suit for a boy. Instead of a skirt, you can use orange shorts as a base and attach a tail to them. If desired, the shirtfront can be replaced with a short vest.
A creative approach and the desire to make something with your own hands will help diversify your home leisure time with maximum benefit. Joint crafts bring family members closer together and help the child develop harmoniously in all directions.

Simple paper squirrel
For activities with children, it is better to give preference to the simplest crafts, in which the child can also take part. Just watching adults work will be boring for the baby.
But the baby can work on a squirrel from a toilet paper roll himself, together with adults.
Cardboard squirrel
For this craft, the easiest way is to use a toilet paper roll as a base for the animal. If there is no sleeve, a cylindrical base glued together from cardboard will correct the situation.
To work you will need:
- cardboard or sleeve,
- colored paper,
- glue,
- scissors.
- First of all, you need to bend two opposite edges inward on one side of the sleeve. The protruding parts that will eventually form will be the ears of the animal.
- From a sheet of orange or brown paper you need to cut out a circle for the muzzle, four oval pieces for the legs and a long strip for the tail.
- The strip for the tail must be twisted into a tube, so it will then take the desired shape.
- The finished elements are glued onto the sleeve.
- The muzzle is decorated using felt-tip pens, paint or parts made of colored paper.
If you wish, you can print ready-made templates from the Internet and glue a paper squirrel according to the instructions. As an option for the youngest craftsmen, a squirrel applique is perfect.
