DIY heart - options for making valentines and crafts in the shape of hearts (140 photos)

Paper heart

Perhaps the simplest and most common option for making a beautiful heart with your own hands is to create it out of paper. From such a common material you can make original heart-shaped crafts, both simple flat and voluminous hearts.

Most often, Valentine’s cards, voluminous crafts using the origami technique, paper garlands from small hearts are created from paper on this theme...

Heart in the palms

I suggest making the first option to a loving family. It's easy to do, anyone can do it.

To do this you will need:

  • paper
  • scissors
  • paints

First, cut out a large heart from paper, then you need to dip your entire palm in paint and make an imprint on a sheet of paper. The second person needs to do the same thing.

Well, with a wave of one hand, your valentine heart is ready! A great gift from a child to mom and dad.

A simple paper heart-shaped card

Necessary materials:

  • white paper and red double-sided paper;
  • pencil;
  • scissors;
  • PVA glue.

Draw a big heart on white paper and cut it out, and cut out 3-4 small hearts from red paper. Carefully bend the white heart in half, and also bend the small red hearts along the axis of symmetry.

Carefully glue the red hearts together to form a kind of “accordion” and glue it into the open large white heart. Thus, when the valentine is opened, one large white heart comes out and there are small red ones inside.

You can write a wish in the card, and stick a photo on the title page or draw something themed, you can also decorate it with sparkles and ribbons.

Making voluminous valentines at home

As for such large and seemingly voluminous figurines for this holiday, I suggest first taking the easiest route and making a heart outline out of cardboard, and then using woolen threads, you can take different colors, or you can take a single color. Tie, that is, wrap, as shown in this photo.

In the first version, we made flowers and glued them to the workpiece, you can also do it in this case.

You can also easily and quickly cut out this ready-made pattern, and then glue the sides and the box together.

And then decorate it with all kinds of decorations, such as scrapbooking kits. I found a similar option in this video, I’m sharing it with you:

While I was writing this note, one idea came to my mind, and it came to me for a reason, my eldest son was sitting and putting together a mosaic of puzzles, so that’s what I came up with. How do you like what you saw?

Candle with heart

There is a candle in every home, and to give your home interior more warmth and romance, you can make your own candle in a glass holder with a small heart inside.

This candle can be presented as a small gift, or you can make several pieces, then they will be enough for a romantic dinner.

You need to prepare:

  • wax for making candles;
  • red candle paint;
  • aromatic oils optional;
  • wick;
  • square glass candlestick, transparent;
  • a small heart-shaped cookie cutter;
  • a small baking tray or baking dish of any shape;
  • vegetable oil;
  • glue gun with a rod;
  • burner.

Grease the baking dish with a small amount of oil to make it easier to remove the wax later.

Heat the wax in a water bath or double boiler. Add aromatic oils and dye to the wax. Pour into a greased mold so that the thickness of the wax is approximately 1-1.5 cm and allow to cool.

When the wax hardens and becomes similar in consistency to thick dough, carefully squeeze out 4 hearts with a heart-shaped mold. Leave the resulting hearts until completely frozen or, to speed up the process, place them in the refrigerator.

Use a burner to heat one wall of the candlestick, place the heart inside and heat it with the burner until it sticks. In the same way, glue the remaining 3 hearts to the free sides of the candlestick.

Using a glue gun, glue the wicks to the center of the candlestick to the bottom. Heat the wax in a water bath to a temperature of 70 degrees and carefully pour it into the candlestick. After the wax has cooled, trim off the excess piece of wick.

In this simple way you can make very beautiful and stylish candles in candlesticks.

Master class with step-by-step photographs

You need to start work with a good mood and a desire to make something :)

  1. Cut a heart-shaped base from a piece of foam.
  2. Take corrugated paper and cut it into squares.
  3. Wrap the square around a pencil as shown in the photo and attach it to the base. If the paper is too thick, then it is better to use silicone glue, and if you want to make such a heart from organza or other fabric, then it is better to use hot melt glue.
  4. Once you have attached the square to the foam base, continue attaching other squares until you have filled the entire base. Just don’t glue them too close to one another, otherwise it will take you a lot of time and material, and the result will be the same as with rare gluing.
  5. Next, take the beads and place them in the shape of a heart on your topiary, as shown in the photo.
  6. When the heart is completely covered with paper, take a kebab skewer and insert it through the center. You can also use wire, salex, etc. as a trunk.
  7. Wrap ribbon around the trunk and attach a bow. Leave it all to dry for a while.
  8. Let's make a jar in which the heart will stand. It can be decorated with corrugated paper and a bow. Prepare a solution from plaster or alabaster, pour it into a jar and insert the stem of the heart into the middle. Our topiary is ready.

You can give such a heart for a birthday, Valentine's Day, or just make it for yourself to decorate your apartment. I wish you all inspiration and beautiful works!

It's no secret that the symbol of love is the heart. To express your feelings or simply surprise your loved one, it is enough to give a small (or, on the contrary, a very large) heart. Moreover, today there is a fairly wide selection of materials that allow you to turn your idea of a gift for your “other half” into reality. One of these is polystyrene foam. It is very popular because it has many advantages. Therefore, a foam heart, which you can buy by ordering it from, will be a great surprise.

Garland of hearts

There are many options and materials for making a garland of hearts. For the base you can use: paper, thread, wire, felt, foil...

One interesting way to create a garland on this theme is to use wire and strong threads (for knitting) for the base.

It is necessary to form hearts of the desired size from strong wire. Wrap each heart generously with thread and create a web in random order.

Make a small pendant from a thread on top of each heart. Thread all the hearts made onto a long strong thread in any order.

This garland can be used to decorate walls, windows, stairs...

Crafts made from threads and balls

A volumetric hollow heart from threads and balloons can be made in two ways:

Take a heart-shaped balloon. Prepare threads (cotton Iris type is best), and PVA glue. Inflate the ball to the desired size, wrap it in cling film or grease the surface with vegetable oil.

Moisten the thread well with glue (you can pour the glue into a bowl and “bathe” the thread in it, or take a thick needle, insert the thread into it, pierce the bottle with glue through the needle: the thread, passing through the bottle, will be saturated with glue).

Wind the thread around the ball in different directions. Now leave the ball to dry, and when it is dry, pierce it and carefully pull it out through the holes of the openwork heart.

You can use ShDM - long thin sausage balls. Make a heart-shaped blank from two balls, in the same way as in the previous description, wrap the ball with threads, after treating it with oil so that the threads can then easily separate from the blank. All that remains is to pierce the ball - and the hollow openwork heart is ready.

What you get in the end can be seen in the photo of a homemade heart. Openwork figures can be used to decorate a wedding hall or a photo zone.

Heart pillow

To make a heart-shaped pillow with your own hands you will need:

  • Whatman paper and pencil;
  • durable fabric;
  • sewing pins;
  • strong threads, needle, scissors;
  • pillow filling (silicone, padding polyester, down...).

On whatman paper, draw a neat heart of the desired size and cut it out. Fold the fabric in half, right side down. Attach a mock-up of a heart from whatman paper to the fabric with sewing pins and trace with a pencil, taking into account the distance to the seam, approximately cm

Using a meter, measure the distance of the heart from the lower end to the upper line of the cavity, add 3 cm to the resulting number and cut 2 strips from the fabric so that each is equal to the resulting number, and approximately 10-13 cm wide.

Place the piece with the right side to the outer part of the heart and pin it along the perimeter; there should be about 2 cm left in the recess of the heart for an allowance. Sew on the strip.

Sew the second strip according to the principle of the first and sew them together, not forgetting to leave a small hole for turning and stuffing the pillow. Turn the resulting workpiece inside out, fill it with filler, and sew it up.

Such a pillow can be decorated with an inscription made of acrylic paint and embroidered with threads; you can sew eyes, a nose, or a smile onto your heart.
