DIY Winnie the Pooh bear costume hat

Very often, for carnival or New Year's costumes, it is necessary to make a bear cub outfit. And if everything is more or less clear with the costume, then with the carnival headdress it’s not so simple...

The Dizaks website recommends sewing a simple, but very beautiful and comfortable Winnie the Pooh hat as a carnival headdress for a bear costume.

Winnie the Pooh is a favorite fairy-tale hero of children in many countries around the world. The Disney character is somewhat different from our good old Winnie the Pooh from Soviet cartoons:

But, in principle, just by changing the color of the fabric, using the technology below, you can easily sew any teddy bear hat.

Bagel suit

If you want to surprise everyone, the costume can be edible. Make chain mail from bagels!

DIY Winnie the Pooh bear hat

Hat pattern

To give the hat a dome shape, it must be sewn by connecting four triangular pieces.

Before cutting them out of fabric, make a paper pattern for the hat. Draw an isosceles triangle on paper, the height of which will be 15 cm, the width of the base will also be 15 cm. Label the corners with letters: A - lower left corner, B - upper, C - lower right corner. Divide the sides AB and BC in half and place points in this place, marking them with the letters G (on the left, in the center of line AB) and G1 (on the right, along line BC). Draw perpendiculars from points G and G1 to the outer sides, 2 cm long. Connect the points of the triangle A, G, B, G1, C with a smooth line. This way you get a triangle with convex sides.

Cut this triangle out of paper, then place it on the back of the fabric and trace it with chalk. Cut along the line. Repeat the operation 3 more times to get 4 parts in the form of convex triangles. There is no need to make seam allowances; they have already been taken into account when creating the pattern drawing.

Ears for a teddy bear hat

To sew bear ears, we will need 2 circles with a diameter of 6 cm. Cut the circles in half, fold them right side inward, grind them along the convex side, turn them inside out and sew them along the bottom, making a small fold in the middle, as in the photo.

Sew the top of the hat

Sew 4 triangular parts along the convex sides, 1 cm away from the edge of the pattern. You will get the upper part of the cap.

The teddy bear's ears can be sewn on using hand stitches, or small darts can be made on the two wedges of the hat and the ears can be sewn in.

Bottom of the hat

Cut out the strip for the bottom of the cap: its length will be 54 cm, width 6. Do not leave any extra for the seams, they have already been taken into account. Sew this strip lengthwise to the top of the hat, starting from the back of the head (seam width 1 cm). Dock the free ends of the strip at the back and connect them from the wrong side. On the frontal part, fold the edge of the strip inward and secure with stitching. To ensure that the product fits well, you can adjust it to the shape of the child’s head using small darts on the top of the head.

Bottom ears for hat ties

Cut out 2 circles with a diameter of 8 cm, cut diagonally, fold in pairs, hem around the circumference, and sew on the sides of the product from the bottom. Using pieces of Velcro, attach a strip of fabric (ribbon) to the ears to secure the cap to the chin (width 2 cm, length 17 cm). Before turning, you can sew ribbons into the ears to tie the hat.

All that remains is to paint our bear’s face with indelible paint: eyes, eyebrows, mouth, nose. You can make eyes and a nose from buttons, or embroider features with thick threads. The Winnie the Pooh bear hat is ready, you can start trying it on!

Varieties

All children love games in which they transform into adults or become inhabitants of the animal world. Unfortunately, parents often pay insufficient attention to such games, and children play them only in kindergarten, wearing costumes purchased for this occasion. Psychologists and experts strongly recommend remembering the benefits of such activities and purchasing several different costumes for your baby, in which he can develop always and everywhere.

Role-playing and plot-role-playing

A huge variety of role-playing games have been invented. This can also include sketches about a store, library, hairdresser, school, military intelligence officers, policeman, etc.

Of course, the costume for each character from the scene should be special and very clear. So, a school suit for a child should look like a real school one, but at the same time be fun. So, cute suspenders will go well with classic trousers. Don’t forget about the school primer, which is an absolute attribute of the school image.

Older children actively play military intelligence officers. To recreate this look, you will need a cap, camouflage clothing and weapons.

Common role-playing costumes that do not carry any plot include costumes of cute animals. Bunnies, foxes, squirrels, bears and wolves can become a harmonious attribute of any matinee.

Hairdresser

The hairdresser is a place that every child has had to visit. His own haircut or the role of an observer captivates the child and causes admiration, because so many interesting objects are in the skillful hands of a professional.

A hairdresser's costume includes a cape for the hairdresser and a cape, that is, a cloth for the client who is about to get a haircut. The material for the suit is polyester or any other smooth material. Numerous pockets on the cape will provide the child with convenience; you can put scissors, a comb and a mirror there, because a real master always has everything at hand.

An interesting detail in some costume models was the place for a badge. A professional’s personalized suit—isn’t this what a young master dreams of?

Suit for summer, spring, autumn and winter

The kindergarten tries to develop the child comprehensively. The seasons are a common theme for matinees.

When choosing a summer suit, pay attention to light fabrics, such as chiffon. A good choice would be loose-fitting sundresses and a wreath of flowers. The shades of the outfit should, of course, match the summer colors. So, the correct option would be green, red and a small amount of yellow.

But in the autumn suit the yellow color is used to the maximum. Sundresses and dresses embroidered with orange and red leaves look especially harmonious and accurate with a voluminous wreath of leaves with rowan berries.

The winter costume is one of the most recognizable. White and blue tones go perfectly together in short fur coats and dresses with fur trim. Don’t forget about the frosty pattern that covered the dress and cap with its radiance.

Spring, on the other hand, is often confused with summer. And it’s all about the green color, which is present in both images. The right option would be a light sundress made of heavenly fabric, covered with an unobtrusive floral pattern. The entire design should create the impression of the first flowers against the backdrop of the passing winter.

Professions

A child from kindergarten should know minimal information about professions; perhaps then the question of what parents do will not cause confusion. In addition, understanding the meaning of professions becomes the basis for a child to respect various types of work.

For example, the most famous profession for a child is the position of a salesperson. The suit for this position includes an apron and cap made of smooth and wrinkle-resistant fabric. Take care of the necessary attributes of the profession. A calculator, abacus and scales are what a young specialist cannot do without.

The costume of a stewardess and a steward would be an interesting look. A vest and cap in blue or red will be an accurate reflection of their appearance.

Boys will love the police costume. The cape and wand are a simple and universally recognizable image.

Colds

In kindergarten they offer to try yourself in not too pleasant images. Colds are an interesting role to play and cause headaches for parents. What should you dress your child in? It is worth saying that there are many options here.

So, a synonymous image taken as a basis can be a kikimora. Her costume includes shapeless green and marsh-colored clothing and tousled hair.

Another more understandable image for children would be a cold, dressed in pajamas with a large thermometer under the armpit and a scarf tied around the neck. A perfect hairstyle will also be superfluous here, but a homemade sleep cap will do just fine.

Theater

Another way to develop a child’s imagination and establish concepts of good and evil is to tell a fairy tale. But not just tell, but offer to become its main character.

Well-known Russian fairy tales about the bun, Masha and the bears, and the chicken Ryaba often become the basis for productions. Fairy tales are not complete without Little Red Riding Hood, Puss in Boots and the Snow Queen.

It is worth saying that the main element here is the headdress. A yellow voluminous hat with a cheerful face will display the image of a kolobok, a hat with a beak and eyes in speckled colors refers to a chicken, and so on. All that remains is to choose clothes to match.

The heroes of children's productions are increasingly animals. It’s easy to buy their costumes in a store, but it’s still most beautiful when the image is created independently under the guidance of your beloved child.

Cooks

The cook is a popular role-playing character. The child is well acquainted with this profession, because every day in kindergarten he sees a kind cook preparing delicious porridge and jelly.

The costume includes a chef's jacket, a cap, an oven mitt, spoons and a ladle. Don't forget about the badge of a real chef.

Indian

A child’s horizons are constantly expanding. And now the time comes when it’s time to learn about the peoples of the world. An Indian costume will give your child a vivid transformation.

So, the Indian costume for boys and girls should include a knee-length shirt, complemented by fringe. Pants are added to a boy's costume, and a thigh bandage is added to a girl's costume.

A headdress made of feathers of two different colors, for example, blue or red, will be a perfect match for the look.

From waste material

And the child should also know what ecology is and how important it is to preserve it. Costumes for matinees made from waste material can serve as a clear and interesting lesson for a child.

The most popular costumes in this category are models made from plastic bags. From large garbage bags the capes of Koshchei the Immortal are created, and from small ones - ruffles and flowers on the dresses of fashionistas.

An interesting and unusual option would be dresses made from halves of disposable cups. They are placed on the voluminous frame of the hem of the dress.

The most affordable costume is a model made from candy wrappers. Lush wreaths for hair and beads are created by simply folding candy wrappers like an accordion and then stringing them on a thread.

Old newspapers are another quick way to create a model for a matinee. A stapler, tape and plenty of newspapers are all you need for a costume made from scrap material.

DIY children's New Year's costumes in five minutes

Designing and creating a children's carnival costume is a fascinating and creative process. There are handicraft mothers among us who are capable of creating a real exclusive masterpiece for their baby in one night, like Vasilisa the Beautiful. But such mothers are the exception rather than the rule. Most people fall into a state of slight confusion every time the New Year holidays begin to loom ahead. And you want to please your child with a bright carnival costume, help him, at least for a short time, transform into his favorite character, become a real hero. But there are not enough sewing skills, abilities, ideas, time.

Of course, you can buy a suit. But often this is too much. standard. How many times have my children and I met two or three identical little fox sisters, twin bunnies and other identical forest brethren at the holiday trees. There is also tailoring of suits to order, but... you know how much it costs. Striving for the ideal, we often forget that the perfect pattern, high-quality fabric, straight stitches, the price of the suit - all this is interesting and important only to you and me. Well, sometimes people around you also pay attention to this. For the baby it means absolutely nothing! What is more important to a child is YOUR attention and care, YOUR creativity, YOUR time together with him spent on creating a New Year's outfit. So, dear mothers, let's not give up on the eve of the holiday, but let's try, together with the baby, to build a New Year's costume with our own hands, which does not require the skills of a super dressmaker. And we will spend a minimum of time and money on this.

Kindergarten Costume Contest – Ideas

In kindergarten, competitions for the best costumes are regularly held, and there are no limits to parents’ imagination. However, some mothers and fathers, on the contrary, are at a loss. Let's offer some original ideas.

A fun option would be the Chung-Chang costume. This resident of hot countries will be a bright highlight of the New Year's party. For a suit, a tutu skirt and a black tight top with black tights are enough. Children's makeup or nylon stockings are suitable for the face and hands. However, in pursuit of the exact image, remember the comfort of your child.

When considering an idea, ask your child for advice. He might want to act like a cartoon character. The simplest and most beloved character will be Mashenka. A red scarf, a Russian sundress and the look of a contented baby will bring victory.

A New Year's party is impossible without a decorated Christmas tree. So why shouldn’t your daughter play this role? A herringbone kokoshnik and a long satin dress, richly decorated with beads, New Year's balls and garlands, will bring joy to a young fashionista.

Another costume idea would be the inhabitants of the forest. No, we are not talking about popular costumes. Remember those whose costumes are rare at matinees. For example, a prickly hedgehog with a basket of apples and mushrooms will look very original. You can make the spines yourself from paper using the papier-mâché technique and cover them with black paint.

When creating or purchasing a costume, do not be afraid to be funny and amusing, because it is creative images that remain in the memory and make the child the star of any matinee.

New Year's costume: Winnie the Pooh, Tigger and Thumbelina

To create a particular image, an exact portrait resemblance to the character is not necessary. Just one stroke is enough, but bright and characteristic. The basis for a New Year's costume can almost always be found in a child's wardrobe or among the things of a mother, father, grandmother, or older brother or sister. By adding suitable clothes with makeup (use special face paints or mom’s cosmetics), a wig, cardboard ears, horns, snouts, and all sorts of accessories, we will get a variety of different characters.

Once upon a time, the theater studio where the eldest daughter studied staged a play about Winnie the Pooh. The children had no tails, no ears, no mustaches, but any viewer at first glance could determine with absolute accuracy what kind of character was in front of him. The images were conveyed so accurately using only clothing. Winnie the Pooh is a chubby fellow in a brown overalls, Piglet is a little girl in bright shorts and a vest, with protruding pigtails and ears, Rabbit is a prim “smart guy” dressed like an English gentleman. And who is this hooligan in a white shirt, black vest and hat, with cut off gloves on his fingers? Of course, the bouncy and cocky Tigger!

New Year's costume of the Scientist Cat

So, first we turn the boy into a Scientist Cat.
It's hard to imagine that such a very smart cat would be white or red. Of course it should be pitch black. Let's choose suitable clothes for our son: black trousers and a black turtleneck sweater. We will put on old black gloves with cut off fingertips. Cat ears are easy to make. Cut and glue 2 triangles of black velvet paper or cardboard. Before gluing, put a dark elastic band on the baby’s head, measure the required length, fasten the ends and mark on the elastic the places where the cat ears should stick out on the top of the head. Then place the cardboard ears at the marked points so that the elastic passes between the two triangles at the base, and glue them together. Our cat is almost ready. The main accessory is missing - a chain. We will weave a chain from foil rings. The cat himself can handle this. Cut the food foil into strips, roll them lengthwise several times to make the foil denser. Now fold each strip into a ring and thread one into the other. Glue the ends together. Make more of these links to make the chain long. Now we put a shiny chain around the cat’s neck and complete the look with black mustaches drawn with my mother’s cosmetic pencil. For greater learning, the cat can carry a large book under his arm and will certainly know a couple of songs and fairy tales to entertain guests.

Ready-made bear costume for children

We will divide the finished bear costume into types according to design and external embodiment of the image.

Two types of design:

1. A one-piece suit in the form of a jumpsuit that imitates the body of an animal.

2. A suit divided into upper and lower parts, usually trousers and a jacket with fur. You put a mask or hat with the image of a bear’s face on your head, paw gloves on your hands, and a tail on the back. Some costumes have special shoes or paw-shaped shoe covers.

Also, costumes are divided into two groups according to appearance:

1. “Realistic” ones are covered with artificial wool.

2. Costumes that resemble the most conventional image, and often depict a specific cartoon character.

"Realistic" and cartoon bears

These costumes are made from faux fur and have imitation real claws on their paws. In the bear's face, the authors try to maintain realistic proportions: the eyes are often small, the features are emphasized by additional elements of fur. The features of the costume are similar to the animal, expressing the character of a wild mammal, and not the emotions and moods of cartoon characters.

The author-fashion designer can design costumes depicting fantasy bears and cartoon characters in a completely bizarre and unexpected way. For example, sew pink polka dot pantaloons into the body of the suit.

Costumes of conventional bears expand the range of the hero’s features, making him more limited in non-classical productions, original scripts, and in modern interpretations of cult stories.

Choose suits made from synthetic materials because they are durable, you can wash and dry them easily, and the fabric retains its original appearance for a long time.

Both costumes perform different artistic tasks. A realistic costume helps create an impersonal image of the bear as an animal endowed with certain cultural traits. The costume of a particular character forces the viewer to immerse himself in the production in a second, because I read the image immediately.

Scenarios where it would be more appropriate to use a realistic bear:

Scenarios closer to cartoon bear costumes:

New Year's Little Mermaid costume

The Little Mermaid will look good in her mother's any very long dress. We embroider the dress with shaggy green tinsel so that it hangs in ribbons from the waist to the ground. You can add plastic seaweed (available at any pet store). The main decoration of the little mermaid will be a crown of water lilies. Let's make water lilies from paper. To do this, first make three cardboard flower templates. Draw three circles of different diameters (7, 8 and 9 cm) on cardboard, draw a lily flower with petals inside the circle, cut it out. Now we trace the templates on white paper. There will be three water lilies in our wreath, which means we will need nine blank flowers of three diameters. Using scissors, fold the paper petals inward (place the blade of the scissors on the base of the petal on the inside of the flower and quickly move it to the edge, twisting the paper). We collect the “twisted” flowers in threes, gluing the smaller ones inside the larger ones. Add yellow stamens from colored paper. We cut out a cardboard hoop according to the size of the baby’s head (instead of a cardboard headband, you can use a wide hairband (such as for aerobics). In order for it to hold better, we make the hoop a little smaller than necessary, and insert a piece of elastic at the back (in those places where the elastic band is attached, glue squares of fabric from the inside so that the mask does not tear immediately). We decorate the hoop with paper water lilies (one in the middle, above the forehead, the other two on the sides). We let the little mermaid’s hair down over her shoulders, put a decoration of water lilies on her head - and the image is ready!

New Year's costume of the Swan Princess

If your daughter has a braid, or at least a pigtail, she can transform into the Swan Princess. Remember: “The moon shines under its scythe, but the star burns in its forehead”? This should be the highlight of the outfit, a small detail thanks to which everyone will immediately understand what kind of character is in front of them. For the base of the costume, you will need a long white dress, preferably to the toes and with wide sleeves. You can whip up a long robe from an old white sheet. We embroider the outfit with crescents and stars cut out of foil. We glue a cardboard hoop and attach a large cardboard star to the front, covered with silver foil. The same month will be placed at the back. All that remains is for the little princess to put on her headdress correctly so that the month is under the scythe, and learn to move beautifully and smoothly, flapping her arms like wings.

New Year's costume for a boy: pirate

All kinds of characters like pirates, Indians, musketeers have always been favorites among little adventurers. So, let's create images of brave warriors. Let's start with the pirate. Everything is simple here. We put trousers and a vest on our son, and belt it all with a wide bright scarf - a sash. We tie a black bandana around our head. Don’t forget to blindfold one eye with a wide black ribbon and draw a dashing curled mustache and beard. Draw a skull and crossbones on an entire sheet of black cardboard, cut it out, thread it with a string and place it on the little pirate’s neck. To complete the look, cut out a large cardboard hoop earring, wrap it in foil, and attach it to a clip. Clips, if you look hard enough, can almost certainly be found in every home. We attach the clip to one ear, put a cardboard dagger into the belt, take pistols in our hands - and here we have a real pirate in front of us.

New Year's costume for a boy: Indian

In an Indian costume, the main accessory will be a headdress with feathers. Cut a wide strip of cardboard and make a headband from it to fit the baby's head. Insert a piece of elastic at the back to make the future headdress easier to put on and hold on better. Of course, we will need feathers. If there are no goose ones, pigeon ones are also quite suitable. You can always find them in large quantities on the street. Carefully wash and dry the collected feathers. If desired, they can also be painted in bright colors. We glue the feathers onto the cardboard rim from the inside so that they stick straight up. We decorate the cardboard with “baubles” made of beads and strips of faux fur. Sew the beads directly to the ribbon. Look for an Indian outfit among children's clothing: brown wide trousers, moccasins, a casual shirt. To the pants from the knee and to the sleeves of the shirt, you can sew a strip of thick fabric cut with fringe with light stitches. The costume will become unusually picturesque if you add a fox tail or a fur collar from your grandmother’s old coat. Complete the look with beads around your neck and a homemade bow and arrow. Leave the onion making to your dad. A bow can be easily made from a thick willow rod, bent in an arc, and a string tied to its ends. Don't forget about arrows (planed sticks with feathers at the ends) and a quiver (cloth or paper, hanging on the little Indian's shoulder). Don't forget the war paint and teach your little one the Indian war cry.

Features and purpose

So, you should start preparing a costume for your child for kindergarten in advance, because every child dreams of feeling unique and different from others.

It is worth remembering that role-playing games are a very useful activity for a child. In such a game, a child not only develops his imagination, but also learns to communicate, to be in society, and if the game is prepared thoroughly, he also learns to count and write. Of course, it’s much more fun to play in interesting costumes, because they are the same as those worn by adults or the characters of their favorite cartoons.

A costume for a child can consist solely of clothes, or it can also include certain items, for example, a doctor’s suitcase.

Visiting a fairy tale: New Year's costume for a girl

All kinds of children's fairy tales, cartoons and films are practically inexhaustible material for creating carnival costumes. If a little mischief categorically does not want to dress up as the kind Little Red Riding Hood or the meek Gerda, she may like the Little Robber costume. For him we will definitely need an outfit made of skins. Pieces of faux fur will do, even in different colors. You can quickly sew a vest and a skirt from them, and the rougher the work, the better. Or you can put a skirt on your baby, a plain sweater and embroider the clothes with pieces of fur.

Ready-made bear costume for adults

The bear costume is needed by adult animators, teachers, educators, directors of theater clubs, and actors of youth theaters. Not a single matinee is complete without a host, an adult actor, who holds the attention of children, develops the action of the performance, helps children play their roles, and directs the course of the story.

Of course, children understand the conventions, but a beautiful animal costume draws them into the performance in a special way; children are not distracted from the script, stop analyzing who is hiding in the costume, and happily play along with the adult bear.

A bear costume for an adult is a one-piece jumpsuit with fur sewn on top. This suit is quite spacious, so you can easily wear comfortable basic underwear: a T-shirt and leggings. The suit is suitable for both men and women. A hood in the shape of a bear's head is put on top.

The suit is made of synthetic materials, so it can be washed; it is better to wash faux fur by hand with a mild detergent for washing down jackets, so that the foam can be easily washed. Comb the wet fur with a comb while drying, and when the suit is dry, treat it with an antistatic agent and it will become fluffy again.

New Year's costume for girls: Pippi Longstocking

If your little one is already familiar with the mischievous Pippi Longstocking from A. Lindgren's fairy tale, invite her to appear at the New Year's tree in the image of this cheerful little adventurer. We put on a short sundress (you can even have one that the baby has already outgrown). We sew several “patches” of a different color to the sundress with light stitches. Remember how in the book: “it (the dress) was supposed to be blue, but there wasn’t enough blue fabric, and Pippi had to sew in a few scraps of red here and there.” An obligatory touch is stockings of different colors. If you couldn’t find stockings, long multi-colored knee socks will do. We'll borrow the shoes for a while from a friend's daughter, who is three or four years older than your baby. And don’t forget about the tight braids sticking out in different directions. For more “sticking out” we insert a piece of flexible wire into them. Draw bright freckles on the nose and cheeks. Ready! You can add to the image a chest with “gold” coins, a toy monkey and demonstrate the crowning performance - raising a horse (of course, also a toy).

New Year's suit Carlson

Or maybe your little one will like another Lindgren hero - the cheerful inventor Carlson? It is very easy to turn a boy into him. We put on a plaid shirt and shorts with suspenders. We attach a cardboard propeller to the back. And if you manage to persuade dad to spend a little time and participate in the creation of a New Year’s costume, he will probably be able to assemble a simple battery-powered device (or rechargeable batteries) so that when you press a button on the baby’s stomach, a propeller starts spinning from behind (we hide all the wires under the clothes). A computer fan can be used as a propeller. It is powered by 12 W and can be purchased at any computer store. This will surely create a real sensation at the matinee. The kid will proudly show off the device to his friends. To complete the look, we tousle the boy’s hair or put on a red wig.
