How to choose paracord
Such cables are made in the USA, China, Germany and Ukraine, but the highest quality products are considered to be those from American and German manufacturers.
There are 4 types of paracord:
- The cable marked 100 is considered the thinnest. It can withstand a load of only 40-45 kg, and there is only one internal cord in the core.
- Number 425 can handle a weight of 180 kg, and the core contains 5-7 durable laces.
- For No. 550, the load increases to 250 kg and the internal part already contains 7-9 ropes.
- The most durable and reliable is the professional paracode 750. It can easily withstand 340 kg, and there are 11 strong cords inside the braid.

It is important to pay attention to the characteristics, which in some cases may not coincide with the manufacturer's instructions. From different suppliers the same product with the same diameter differs significantly in quality.
You should not buy Chinese analogues, because they can withstand much less weight than what is indicated on the package.
Starting to weave a ribbon belt
Connect two strips together with a piece of adhesive fabric. For convenience, we numbered them in the diagram: tape 1, tape 2, tape 3 and tape 4. Pin the tapes at right angles, as shown in the photo. Place Ribbon 2 under Ribbon 3 on top of Ribbon 4. Ribbon 3 over Ribbon 2 under Ribbon 1. Ribbon 4 under Ribbon 2 over Ribbon 1. It’s not difficult to make a braided ribbon belt, but if you’re doing it for the first time, it will be difficult to figure out how to alternate ribbons right away.
Unscrew tape 3 and 4 so that they lie in the same direction as tapes 1 and 2. Turn tape 2 back, braid it under tape 1, passing it over tape 3 and bringing it under tape 4. Turn tape 1 back, bring it under tape 3 and place on top of tape 4.
The weaving of the belt has begun. Now the most important thing is not to get confused in the alternation of tapes. It’s convenient when the ribbons are multi-colored, as in the photo, you can immediately notice the error. Plain ribbons need to be woven more carefully, making sure that the ribbons overlap each other exactly according to the pattern.
How many ribbons do you need to buy for a woven belt?
To make a belt from woven ribbons, first measure the product along the waist line and add 4-5 cm to seal the edges of the belt (clasp).
Cut four lengths of double-sided tape. Each segment should be one third longer than the length of the finished belt. For example, if the belt is 68 cm, then you need to cut four ribbons a little more than 1 meter. However, do not cut the ribbons exactly according to calculation, add a few more centimeters (10-15) just in case. Excess sections of the belt can always be cut off.
