The best reason to make an origami swallow is the spring holidays. It is with the season of awakening and blossoming of nature that this small, fast-winged bird is associated. It is also considered a symbol of any favorable changes and renewal. Happiness and prosperity, according to popular belief, are guaranteed to the residents of a house under the roof of which there is a swallow's nest. But why wait for real birds to fly in if you can make a whole family out of paper right now and recharge yourself with positivity? Moreover, most origami swallow models are simple and will not take much time.

We also have an article - where we make a variety of birds from paper (not just swallows) - BIRDS from paper (55 crafts for children).
So, let's see how to quickly and easily make a swallow from scrap materials (paper and cardboard) with your own hands...
Swallow applique.
From paper we cut out silhouettes of swallows, silhouettes of a white breast and beak. You can use the paper half-disk technique (as in the right photo below). A suitable spring craft for kindergarten.
Swallows on wires.
Craft for kindergarten.
In the photo below we see how interesting the swallows look from below when they are sitting on the wires.
Here is a three-dimensional applique that repeats this image from the photographs. The usual black paper details and white loops of white stripes are like the arched breasts of birds.
You can add any elements to this application. Rain, sun, foliage, flowers.
You can make a bulk applique from colored semolina. We paint semolina in different colors using a dry method using powdered food coloring.
Large group crafts
With paper swallows.
In kindergarten or in a circle, skillful hands can make a great craft. Collective panel. Cut out silhouettes for swallows from black cardboard and decorate them with white and red gouache.
Stencil templates with swallows will be lower in this article and now I will also give a few.
You can zoom in on your screen. Place a sheet of paper directly on the screen and trace with a pencil a drawing that will glow through the paper. You can enlarge or reduce the image on the screen by holding the Ctrl button and turning the mouse wheel.
The simplest crafts
Paper swallows.
Here is a simple craft-spring postcard with two paper swallows.
And if these same silhouettes are cut out of cardboard, then they can be hung on a string. Make a hanging module like this with paper swallows.
You can interestingly design a cardboard silhouette of a swallow craft. For example, make a nest with eggs. Attach a midge made of paper to the beak (not a worm, swallows do not eat them). Only midges, which they catch in flight, are swallows’ favorite delicacy.
And if you add white repeats to this black silhouette - but in a slightly smaller size, so that the black silhouette is visible around the edges - you will get a real Lao girl. And also make a white boa in the neck area. It turns out to be a very beautiful craft - and at the same time simple for a kindergarten of the younger group.
By spring there is always a lot of black cardboard left over that you don’t know where to put, and there is also white landscape paper. And here’s an idea for a budget-friendly and simple craft just for such a case.
Here are some beautiful stencil templates for similar crafts.
You can make several swallows from black cardboard. Glue a white breast and a red neck to them. And hang it from the ceiling. As a reminder that spring is outside the window and we need to rejoice and believe in the best new, fresh, unexpected, but long awaited.
Second option for mobile
Unlike the previous one, this origami swallow does not soar, but rushes quickly. Which is easy to determine by the wings pressed to the body. In nature, swallows are capable of reaching speeds of up to 160 km/h and, unlike other “air racers” - swifts, they maneuver easily. They are helped by a long, forked tail and wide wings, which allow them to quickly change direction.
For the model, you can use a square sheet of any size.
Step-by-step instruction:
- We start traditionally from the inside out. Fold the square in half, matching the top and bottom points.
- We repeat the same technique for the edges of the new shape.
- Open the left “pocket” from the inside.
- Move it to the right and flatten it.
- Turn the workpiece over.
- Repeat steps 3 and 4 on the back.
- We bend the sides of the near layer towards the center.
- Make folds along the dotted lines.
- Once again we bend the same sides towards the center. Fold the figure in half “valley”.
- Rotate counterclockwise 90°.
- We combine by bending the stars indicated in the diagram.
- Turn the workpiece over.
- Repeat step 11 on the back.
- Bend the corner indicated by the asterisk along the dotted line.
- We proceed symmetrically on the reverse.
- We bend the edge closest to us.
- We raise the resulting wing.
- We turn the figure over.
- We lower the side closest to us down.
- Fold the edge towards the central axis.
- Repeat step 17.
- Using a reverse fold, lift the corner indicated by the purple arrow upward.
- Bend the sharp nose down.
- We open the forked tail to the sides.
The origami swallow is ready.
Third option
Realistic model with original assembly diagram. Can be used as decoration for a wedding, March 8 or February 14. This is a good decision, since among the ancient Greeks the swallow was considered the bird of the goddess of love and spring, Aphrodite. The compact model is suitable for both hanging and table decoration. In the second case, the figures are attached to bamboo skewers or wire, as shown in the video tutorial:
Origami swallow behind the Sipho Mabona diagram
Hello, our dear guests and regular readers, today we would like to introduce you to assemblies of paper crafts - Origami Swallows. This model can be assembled in different ways. But this particular assembly is very detailed, and the swallow will become realistic, beautiful and original.
A swallow is a small bird. Swallows usually nest in abandoned warehouses or houses. These birds spend most of their lives in flight, hunting small insects, which become the main prey and food for swallows.
In ancient Egypt, the swallow was considered the sacred bird of the goddess Isis, as well as other goddesses of motherhood in other cultures. They say that if a swallow makes a nest in someone’s house, family members will soon be expected to marry or have children.
There is a legend that swallows hide in lakes for the winter. There they cling to each other with their paws and wings, and with the onset of warm spring, the young swallows rise, while the old ones remain in the water, their wings drop and turn into toads.
An origami swallow will become a beautiful paper souvenir in your home, which will symbolize the warmth of the hearth, and will also become a symbol of motherhood and fertility.
The diagram of such a beautiful origami swallow was provided to us by origamist Sipho Mabona. We are very grateful to the author for such a masterpiece, which today we can repeat and assemble with our own hands.
So, to assemble the Origami Swallow you will need:
- square sheet of paper (15x15 cm);
- about 40 minutes to assemble.
For assembly, choose medium-weight paper so that you can carefully make all the folds. The color of the paper should be black and white, so the swallow will turn out very beautiful and realistic.
Alternatively, you can collect several swallows of different sizes and then hang them on a string in the desired location or, for example, near the baby's crib.
A detailed and step-by-step video will help you assemble origami swallows. All you need is calm, patience, time for meetings and, of course, a good mood. Having collected such a masterpiece, you can rejoice and pity the eyes of those around you with the beautiful Swallow bird. Or try to collect another version of this funny bird)
