How to make a handle for a 5 liter plastic bottle

Homemade handle for a plastic bottle

Sometimes, for various reasons, you have to use a plastic bottle to replenish your drinking water supply. But at the most inopportune moment, the handle of the bottle breaks off.

I would like to offer two ways to make a homemade pen. For the first method, we will need two pieces of clothesline, a piece of polypropylene (PP) pipe with a diameter of 20 mm and a length of 10-12 cm, as well as some nylon thread.

Tools include wire cutters, scissors and a lighter. Let's start by removing the broken handle along with the fastening with pliers.

Next, we fold one piece of clothesline in half, make a half ring and lay it on a flat surface. We do the same with the second piece and arrange it on top of the first.

We tighten the places where the ropes intersect with force using nylon thread.

We tie the thread, cut the ends of the thread and fuse it with the flame of a lighter (so as not to unravel). We do this carefully so as not to get burned. Next, we place the resulting loop over the neck of the bottle and tighten it.

Let's start making the handle. We insert one end of the rope inside the PP tube, measure the height of the future handle and tie it in a knot.

It is also advisable to melt the knot over a fire. We do the same with the second piece. And the final touch. When pulling up one or another rope, we hide the knots inside the tube and adjust the position of the handle relative to the neck.

If PP tubes are not available, you can use a piece of rubber hose or metal tube of suitable diameter. For the second option, we will need a piece of iron chain 40-50cm long, a PP tube and a clamp with a diameter slightly larger than the diameter of the neck.

Tools include pliers, wire cutters and a screwdriver. You can use any chain that is available. But it is desirable that it goes inside the tube. In my case, the chain had to be flattened a little with a hammer. Next, we push the chain inside the tube, measure the height of the handle and, if necessary, bite off the extra links. We put the lower links of the chain on the clamp, and tighten the clamp on the neck.

The new pen is ready. If the bottle becomes unusable, the handle can be moved to another bottle. In the first case, you need to loosen the loop to do this, and in the second, simply unscrew the clamp.

DIY crafts, step-by-step instructions, photos and videos

Water containers are one of the most popular plastic products in our daily lives. Their volume varies, and for larger sizes (5-20 liters) there are handles for carrying. But sometimes they break, crack and become unusable. How to replace them and extend the life of a plastic canister?

There is an excellent option for a self-clamping carrying handle, reliable and practical, and most importantly, free. Let's look at it in more detail.

Materials

  • Sections of plastic PP pipe 12-15 cm long, thickness – 25 mm;
  • Twine or clothesline, length – 110 cm.

Advice!

Such handles can also be made on containers for office coolers. Their neck is wider in diameter than that of conventional water cans, so the rope needs to be increased in size, selecting it individually.

Tools

  • Scissors for cutting PP pipes;
  • Knife.

Making a carrying handle for a plastic canister step by step

The factory handle or its remains must be removed from the neck of the bottle/canister. This is done easily by prying the comb with a regular screwdriver.

We thread a string through a piece of plastic pipe and center it so that the rope fragments come from it evenly.

We tie the ends of the rope with a regular knot, turning one more turn at each end.

We tighten the knot, leaving 10-15 cm to the handle.

We throw the free ends of the rope over the neck of the container and tie it with a similar knot with 3 turns. You need to pull it tightly around the neck.

Next, we push one end of the rope through the handle and connect it to the other end with the same knot. After this we make another additional knot, but without tightening it so that it can fit into the hole in the handle-pipe.

Universal handle-holder for carrying kegs

If there is no special handle on sale, you can purchase a universal handle-holder for carrying weights up to 50 kg. Additionally, you will need a reliable cord and a standard metal clamp.

A strong clothesline needs to be folded in half and tied on both sides in a knot. We lay the cord under the clamp so that the knots do not allow the rope to slip out. Then we tighten the clamp by rotating the screw with a screwdriver, and the device is ready! For more detailed instructions, see the following video.

Durable plywood handle for 19 l bottle

The special plastic handle for carrying a 19 liter bottle can be easily replaced with a similar one made of thick plywood. Material with a thickness of 10-15 mm is suitable.

However, you can get a little creative with the shape of the handle, but it’s better to copy the dimensions from the factory sample. It is convenient to cut holes with a jigsaw or using wood drills with a diameter of 60 and 30 mm.

It is better not to round the edges of the neck holes closest to the handle so that the device holds the bottle securely. The remaining surfaces should be sanded for ease of carrying. For an example of making such a handle with your own hands for a 19-liter bottle, see the following video.

How the water container is sealed

If the company that delivers water throughout Moscow takes a responsible approach to providing its services, the tank must:

  • sealed with a stopper with a valve that must be opened by the consumer;
  • equipped with a special sticker that acts as both a hygienic barrier and an information part containing data on the date of the spill or the type of water;
  • has an outer shell of shrink film on the cork, indicating the absence of damage or unauthorized access to the product.

Such complex protection means that the container must be opened in a certain order.

Reliable handle made of chain and keg clamps

A very reliable design is obtained from standard metal clamps and a length of chain. Rubber-coated clamps for plumbing pipes work well. You will need two of them with a diameter of 30 mm.

We install the clamps opposite each other and tighten them with screws and nuts. A length of chain can be easily purchased at a hardware store. A piece of plastic tube with a diameter of 16-20 mm is suitable as the handle itself. Such trimmings appear in excess when installing water supply in an apartment.

A similar carrier is quite suitable for bottles of 5 and 9 liters. In this case, the clamps must be selected in accordance with the diameter of the container neck.

How to make a handle for a plastic bottle and from what materials?

Store containers from 5 liters quickly fail. The containers are great for transporting water or other liquids. Interested in options for homemade pens.

You can, of course, just take a piece of rope or wire, wrap it around the neck, making a loop first, and thus carry water in this very container. That's it - to carry it, but we need to wear it beautifully and make everyone around us jealous.

It’s easy to make such a bottle yourself, spending very little time and a very small amount of money. But such a bottle will look very beautiful, and most importantly, the device can be easily transferred to a new bottle when the old one becomes unusable over time.

1) - metal screw (worm) clamp with a diameter of 5 cm;

2) - a chain with small links 30 cm long;

Handles for 5 liter bottles

In recent years, we have all been carrying drinking water in large plastic bottles. And very often a problem arises at the most inopportune moment: the handle of the bottle breaks.

I will offer you a very simple way to solve this problem. You can make bottle handles with your own hands in literally two minutes.

For this we need plastic clamps.

Two clamps need to be pressed vertically to the neck of the bottle on the left and right, and we tighten the third tightly around the neck of the bottle, while tightly grasping the vertical clamps.

All that remains is to close the vertical clamps into a ring, and we have formed excellent and very strong handles, since the clamps are made of very strong plastic. We cut off the excess tails of the clamps with scissors.

Now you can safely carry the water bottle further.
