A few months ago, a large number of cockroaches appeared in my house. It was difficult to get rid of them, because these insects reproduce very quickly. I didn't want to use toxic insecticides, and folk remedies didn't help. One day I learned about a trap with bread and beer, which can be made from an ordinary bottle. I tried this method and it was more effective than commercial baits. Soon the unpleasant insects became much smaller, and then they disappeared completely. In this article I will share this method of fighting parasites.
How to make a trap
You can make a bait trap in just 10 minutes. Follow the step by step instructions:

- Cut off the top of the bottle where it starts to curve.
- Soak a piece of bread in beer for some time. Drop the bait into the bottom of the bottle.
- Coat the inside of the container with a small amount of Vaseline or cooking spray. Turn the top upside down and insert it into the bottom like a funnel. Be sure to secure the edges with tape so that the top part does not fall through and the cockroaches do not run away.
- Secure wooden knitting needles or sticks with tape or tape on both sides of the bottle. This will make it easier for insects to enter the trap.
- Make several traps. Place them in places where cockroaches gather.
Masks – Fly and mosquito
Let's start with the frame. First, cut out an even strip 3 centimeters wide. Narrower ones will not be strong, wider ones look bulky. Length - 85 cm (this is if the masks are intended for adults or teenagers). Ideally, masks should be made exactly according to the measurements of the specific performer of the role. But in life, a good isolon mask serves faithfully for years, and the actors change. Therefore, let's take average sizes.
Using a hot-melt gun, glue the frame together in the following order. We make a cut at the back of the head, which will make it possible to slightly change the size.

Details of the clattering fly mask
Cut out the fly's face according to the pattern. The color is gray or pink (depending on whether you prefer the resemblance to insects or like more humanized characters). I myself adhered to the stylized appearance of insects. Since Chukovsky wrote about insects, we will play with their features. The eyes are made of green foil, it would be better if it is a green holographic self-adhesive film. If you really want to, you can decorate your eyes with long eyelashes and glue the lips with a bow under your long nose. The six legs can be made simply black, or you can wear gloves and shoes. To make it more elegant, the frame of the cap can also be decorated with green or blue foil. We will make the wings from transparent plastic film. I took a transparent cover for a school textbook - they are sold in office supply stores (I don’t recommend using hard plastic, for example, from soda cans - the edges are sharp, and we don’t want anyone to cut themselves in the commotion of the show). We will lay out the veins on the wings with narrow strips of colored self-adhesive film. You can draw with a permanent marker, but... it won’t look very elegant. That’s all – enough for a convincing image of a fly. If your soul really wants a beauty and a coquette, there is an option to wear a tiny hat with a veil, but I didn’t do it myself - in my opinion it was too much.

How it works
This method is not based on the action of poisons. Cockroaches come running to the bait, crawl into the jar and stay there. They can no longer crawl back out. Most often, insects fall into traps at night when they go out in search of food.
Check the traps every morning. If necessary, replace the bait, as the bread quickly becomes moldy.
Repeat this process for several days. You will see how over time the cockroach population will decrease significantly and then disappear altogether.
DIY glue trap
You will need a cardboard box or a regular sheet. It is more convenient to use the box, since after
filling the trap with cockroaches, you will have to pick it up and throw it away.
The main component is double-sided tape or RaTrap glue. The glue does not dry completely and a layer of sticky mass is created on the surface.
The bottom of the box is covered with tape or RaTrap is applied. An edible bait with a strong aromatic odor is placed in the corners, in the center of the surface. It is desirable that there is an egg there. Leftover salad after a feast is fine.
The box is placed in the place where the pests were noticed.
Using the principle of an adhesive mass, a trap is made from a jar. A piece of bread soaked in kefir, an egg, and a little beer are placed at the bottom of a glass jar. The outside is wrapped in paper so that you can crawl in easily. The inside walls are coated with Vaseline and vegetable oil. Cockroaches climb for food, but cannot get out.
The trap is set for 2–3 days, then changed. During this time, the oil on the walls of the jar dries out.
Another option is to use double-sided tape on baseboards, the area near the trash can, sinks, and other favorite places for cockroaches.
How effective are homemade devices?
Cockroach traps are an ideal option for ardent opponents of using any poison in your home. Naturalness and safety are the main advantages of such devices. Another important advantage is accessibility and cost savings. After all, almost all the components for making self-propelled guns can literally be at hand.
As for effectiveness, there is no hope for the complete destruction of the entire population of cockroaches that have settled in the apartment. But it is quite possible to mow down rows of pests scurrying around the kitchen or closet. The number of individuals caught is influenced by the following factors;
- the size of the colony;
- availability of additional power sources;
- the selected location for installing the catching device.

On a note!
In addition to the fact that the trap helps to catch a cockroach at home, it also acts as a kind of marker that allows you to determine the presence of pests in the house and the extent of the infestation.
A homemade cockroach trap also has a number of disadvantages:
- the homemade device looks unpresentable and it is doubtful that it will fit harmoniously into any interior;
- caught individuals have to be disposed of and not everyone will like to kill swarming half-dead cockroaches.
What bait to use
To destroy parasites, you can use baits made with your own hands.
For example, the following recipe has excellent effectiveness: mix a small amount of boric acid powder thoroughly, after adding a little milk, with crushed chicken egg yolk. After cooking, use the resulting mass to roll into small balls.
The bait prepared in this way should be placed in secluded places, for example, under the sink, behind kitchen furniture. By eating the bait, insects also transfer the toxic substance to the nest, thereby ensuring the death of their relatives. If necessary, you should regularly replenish the supply of poisonous baits, which will completely destroy the colony of parasites.
Features of using traps at home
Using traps at home In order for a cockroach trap to be most effective, it is necessary to eliminate all sources where individuals could profit. The only treat that should be available to them is the bait placed in the trap. It is desirable that it has a distinct smell: unfiltered beer, fermented kefir, cocoa, liver.
Trap with poison bait
Traps with poisonous baits are similar in appearance to glue traps, only instead of a sticky layer, food that is attractive to cockroaches from the point of view of cockroaches is placed inside, and upon tasting it the insects die. If a cockroach carries some of the poison on its legs to its fellows (and cockroaches are gregarious creatures), then they will all die together.
It is convenient to use powdered boric acid as a poison. A teaspoon of acid is mixed with two boiled egg yolks, the resulting mass is rolled into balls and placed inside the bait. If you sprinkle powdered acid inside the trap itself, the insect will carry it on its body to its relatives, thereby significantly enhancing the damaging effect.
Poison baits should be used with great caution (or better yet, avoid this option altogether) in a home where there are small children and animals. Most of the poisons used are toxic not only to insects, but also to other living creatures.
Sticky designs
Sticky traps against Germans Traps with a sticky adhesive coating fix the German and hold it firmly. Such devices are not suitable for reusable use and must be replaced as insects adhere. There are several ways to make a trap for cockroaches:
- The most primitive and less labor-intensive option is sticky tape against cockroaches. A sheet of cardboard is placed on double-sided tape, covered with long-drying glue on top, and food bait is placed in the center. Hardware stores sell special glue for insects, which already has added fragrances to attract pests. You can use it.
- A more complex design involves the production of cardboard boxes, on the inner walls of which adhesive mass and bait are applied. For greater efficiency, boric acid is added to it. Having tasted such a meal, the insect has practically no chance of survival, even if it manages to get out into the wild.
- Also, to reduce the number of cockroaches in heavily infested areas, ordinary adhesive tape is used, which is often hung for flies. It must be placed near sources of moisture and food, where Prussians usually come to fish.
Insects made from paper accordions step by step
Cut two strips of black paper 2 cm wide. The length can correspond to the wide side of the paper. If your paper is short, you can cut out 4 strips and glue them in two, increasing their length.
Lubricate the tip of one strip with glue and glue the tip of the other to it at a right angle.
Then stack them, alternating, one on top of the other until you reach the end.
The last fold needs to be glued. If there is excess paper, cut it off. You will get a paper accordion like this.
Give the insect a face. Glue on eyes, a smile cut out of red paper, and a thin mustache. The antennae can be bent forward, backward and even to the sides.
Glue the resulting head to the accordion.
Cut out two yellow stripes and round one side. These will be the wings.
Glue the wings to the back of the head and press them to the back.
These are the cute and funny insects we made from paper accordions. I saw them in some scanned magazine and immediately decided that they were winged ants and that I just had to make them. But my household, having seen the insects, recognized them as anything but ants. I was a little sad because I already saw a mention of ants in the title of this article. But I had to call it simply insects. Imagine my surprise when I found out who these characters actually were as conceived by the author of the idea. I never would have guessed it. But I still don’t agree with the author, so the name of this craft will remain the same. What kind of insects do you think these are?
