Homemade target for aerial shooting or just like at a shooting range

Human targets

Targets are produced not only in standard, but also in more original versions. Is it possible to shoot a person? This is a real crime. But sometimes, after a hard day at work, everyone involuntarily thinks about the prospect of becoming a serial killer. Human-shaped targets can be a great way to relieve stress and relax.

Target "Killer" in A4 format

Why not try yourself as a horror movie hero. Only now the maniac in a hockey mask with a chainsaw does not pose a threat to you. You have your own weapons and can easily send the scoundrel to the next world. The target is distinguished by detailed drawing and zoning, which will help determine your success in shooting. You will not only be able to shoot, but also have a good time.

Target "Man" in A4 format

The target is made in a minimalist style and is devoid of additional attributes. As a result, you can engage in shooting without being distracted by details. The presence of zoning will allow the shooter to aim and determine the level of his success. Shooting at such a target, you can involuntarily feel like the hero of a crime thriller.

Target "Fighter" in A4 format

The realistic target is made in the shape of a person who clearly threatens your safety. By shooting at such a target, you can give free rein to your imagination and imagine yourself in the role of a secret agent. You have to fight a dangerous enemy and perhaps save the world. What could be more important than this? The target is equipped with zoning, which will allow you to accurately aim and determine your success.

Target "Hostage" in A4 format

An unusual target will allow you to play out a very dramatic scene. Here is a killer who has put the trigger to the head of someone you care about. Perhaps your future life will depend on it. Remember that there is no room for error. The task is complicated by the fact that you can accidentally shoot the victim. You will have to make an effort to save an innocent person.

Pneumatics and the law

DIY signal flare.
what kind of rockets there are and how to make a working model with your own hands. general design of flares, principle of operation Despite the fact that air rifles and pistols with muzzle energy up to 7.5 J are not subject to weapons laws, judicial practice on them is contradictory. Very often, local judges bring sporting pneumatic shooting under Article 20.13 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation. This article defines administrative penalties for shooting in unauthorized places and for violating the rules of shooting in permitted places. For example, according to it, for shooting in a populated area there is a fine of 40-50 thousand rubles with confiscation of weapons and ammunition. At the same time, the state of alcoholic intoxication is an aggravating circumstance in which the fine increases to 50-100 thousand rubles.

In other words, if you want to shoot on your own property, you need to take every precaution and equip your own shooting range where you can only shoot at targets. This home range will be the “other designated shooting area” referred to in the law.

But despite this, if you receive complaints from neighbors, you may still need a good lawyer, and this is something to keep in mind.

It is also important not to forget about the existence of “Article 245” of the “Criminal Code of the Russian Federation” on cruelty to animals, which, in addition to gigantic fines, implies imprisonment for up to two years

Paintball

Paintball is a sport-tactical battle on specially equipped grounds: open and closed. Shooting is carried out from markers with a mechanical or electronic trigger mechanism. Structurally, these pistols are not similar to the usual “air gun”. The energy source for the shot is carbon dioxide or air.

It is impossible to conduct targeted shooting from paintball pneumatics, and therefore the playing space is limited. The shells are gelatin balls with thick food coloring inside. The characteristics of bullets are different: depending on weather conditions. Sometimes there are players on the site with grenade launchers and grenades.

The fighter’s equipment is comfortable water-repellent clothing, as well as basic plastic protection:

  • Mask.
  • Tactical gloves.
  • Body armor.
  • Knee pads.
  • Elbow pads.

The mask must completely cover the face and ears. Its presence on the player is mandatory, even if the glass fogs up in the cold. There are life hacks to temporarily fix this problem. There are no restrictions on hats. Fans of recreational shooting will love paintball for its qualities:

  • safety;
  • dynamics;
  • colorful surroundings;
  • competitive spirit (there are judges and spectators).

This game will give you new emotions and relieve stress. It is no coincidence that the guests of paintball clubs are office employees. Yes, the pleasure is not free, but it is worth the money.

Types and sizes of targets for practical shooting, made by yourself

This photo shows a target that is used for shooting from an air rifle from a distance of 10 meters. The center of the target, the so-called “bull’s-eye”, is indicated by the number 9.

  1. Paper Bow Targets

The best way to practice is to shoot a bow or crossbow at a paper target.

  1. Shields shield for crossbow and archery

In order for the arrows to last longer, it is recommended to purchase an arrow shield. During practical shooting, the shield will allow you to keep the arrows in their original form. In addition, the shield can withstand hits from any weapon.

  1. Children's shooting target

In addition to specialized targets for shooting ranges, there are also children's shooting targets. Children's targets are a target printed on a metal sheet. For children's purposes, bows or crossbows with arrows on suction cups are used.

Correct shooting technology

Archery is not such an easy procedure as it might seem at first glance:

  1. To hit the target, you must concentrate as much as possible, hold proper breathing and make precise and fast movements.
  2. To learn to shoot well, you first need to learn to control yourself. The shooter must be as calm as possible and be in harmony with his inner world.
  3. There are many shooting techniques and everyone has the right to independently choose the most convenient one.

To learn how to shoot, you must follow these guidelines:

  1. The shooter must take a position with his left side facing the target.
  2. Feet are shoulder width apart.
  3. Toes are on a straight line leading to the goal.
  4. This stance is called a side stance.
  5. The left hand should be on the arsenal in the middle. For example, a classic bow even has a mark where the hand should be.
  6. Next, the bow rises to shoulder level.
  7. The hand holding the weapon should not interfere with shooting.
  8. The arrow should be between two fingers (index and middle).
  9. The load should be even on both fingers.
  10. The arrow is pulled at a distance as close as possible to the neck. Stretch up to the chin is allowed.
  11. When pulling the boom, the shoulder blades should be retracted.
  12. The shooter's breathing must be measured. Otherwise, it simply won't hit the target.
  13. After the first shot, it is not recommended to immediately proceed to the next one. It is necessary to analyze the results of the shot and not repeat mistakes.
  14. It is important to follow the trajectory of the arrow.

Archery - distance to target and target size

Caliber Mytishchi

The dimensions of the target, as well as individual elements, are detailed in Table No. 1.

The dimensions of their elements and the distance to the target are indicated in Table No. 2. One of the most popular “moving targets” is considered to be a target with a running boar.

Note to table 2:

On targets intended for a small-caliber rifle (distance 50 meters), a running boar is depicted in the center of this target, on which marker rings are located. On the form for an air rifle (distance 10 m) there are targets that are intended for the left and right directions of movement. Between them there is a black apple (diameter 15.5 mm), which is necessary for aiming.

Mechanical targets

Mainly used in shooting ranges or competitions. They have a number of advantages over paper ones, for example, it is easier to notice a hit, since the affected part will fall or wobble. This could be a simple axis, with a target attached to it, which simply falls when hit.

With bullet catcher

This is a small container that is located directly behind the target. It helps avoid unnecessary debris and also saves the wall if shooting is carried out indoors.

For biathlon

This is a modernized model of mechanical targets. It has two interesting features:

  • The front solid panel has five holes with a diameter of 45.5 mm; when hit, they are closed with a small lid;
  • When hit, a sensor is triggered, which sends a signal to the computer. Thus, the athlete always knows whether he hit or not.

For dueling shooting

This type of target is quite diverse. This can be a growth target, a circle with a diameter of 45.5 mm and other types. However, they all must meet certain requirements: be positioned symmetrically for both participants and, when hit, fold, fall, or rotate 90 degrees (perpendicular to the shooter).

Electromechanical

There are several types:

  • Actually the biathlon target which is described above.
  • Shooting ranges often use paper targets that are attached to a rope. When shooting is completed, the target is pulled up for viewing by simply pressing a button. And, in the same way, they move away and set the required distance.
  • Folding or rotating targets. In the first case, these are targets that rise after a certain command and fall down automatically after being hit. In the second case, these are targets that turn 90 degrees (edge-on) after being hit.

Compact shooting range for pneumatics

Have you ever seen portable boxes at shooting ranges that house multiple targets? In many Soviet schools, such boxes were used for training shooting on the subject of life safety. Moreover, this design shows itself exclusively from the best side. So why not try to make something similar at home, while making modern adjustments to make the process of creating a shooting range even simpler. In the following sections you will find detailed instructions for making such a box, as well as a list of materials needed for the work.

What is required for production

Before you begin the process of making a shooting range, you need to prepare all the necessary materials and tools so that during the process you do not have to be distracted for another trip to the hardware store or a visit to your neighbor for a drill. Of course, it is worth first of all considering the possibility of using what is already available on the farm, so that production costs are minimal. However, ideally it is recommended to acquire the following materials:

  • metal sheets (thickness of at least 5 millimeters) for welding the box;
  • a pair of door awnings to make the shooting range openable and more compact;
  • metal rods for fixing the box (something like a “stick” under the hood);
  • geotextiles or foam to catch bullets and prevent ricochet;
  • primer paint to prevent rust.

You can also use wood instead of metal - a simpler, but not the most durable material. You can even use some old chest that is no longer used by anyone (for example, from a mechanical sewing machine from the USSR). However, it should be remembered that the dimensions of the shooting range must be at least 1 meter wide, 80 centimeters high, and 50 centimeters deep. It is on the basis of such indicators that it is worth making a shooting range.

As for the tools that may be needed during the work process, they are entirely related to the list of materials. For example, to process metal parts you will definitely need welding, electrodes, a grinder and discs. The wood will have to be processed with a jigsaw, and then cut using a hacksaw or circular saw. The only recommendation is not to use cheap fastening options if you don’t have any tools. It’s better to get a self-tapping screw and connect the boards with screws than to pound nails with a hammer.

Step-by-step execution

As soon as the preparatory procedures are completed, we proceed to the construction work. If you don’t know where to start, then just follow the step-by-step algorithm of actions left below:

Step 1 - making a box

First you need to weld a large box in which the foam and targets will be located. We cut two sheets of metal measuring 100 by 50 cm, as well as two sheets of 80 by 50 cm. After this, we weld the resulting elements using electrodes. It is recommended to carefully process the seams formed during the process with a grinder so that the shooting range looks more even. All that remains is to weld the wall, which has dimensions of 100 by 80 centimeters.

Step 2 - making the lid

To prepare the box lid, you first need to make a frame. It is best to use a slightly denser metal for this purpose, but in the absence of such, “five” will do. The dimensions of the parts are as follows: two 80 by 10 cm and two 100 by 10 cm. After welding, we cut out the cover itself (100 by 80) and connect it to the body in the same way.

Step 3 – fastening and painting

The main part of the work is completed, so all that remains is to connect the two elements using door hinges. After that, take a can of primer paint and thoroughly paint the box (including the inside). Let the shooting range dry for 12 hours. During this time, you can prepare a piece of geotextile or foam that serves as a bullet catcher. Place the soft material inside and you're done!

Several important points to consider when making a wooden box.

  1. Firstly, do not use sheets of plywood or chipboard - yes, they are much easier to process and easier to make something from. However, such material is extremely short-lived and quickly breaks at the first injury to the box on the floor.
  2. Secondly, be sure to make a wooden frame, and not just connect the boards together. This is done approximately according to the same principle as with the lid for the box.
  3. Well, thirdly, after joining the parts, use not a primer, but a stain, which prevents the appearance of parasites in the wood (you can also additionally coat the box with varnish).

Undeniable protection or how to set up a target

At the dawn of his darts, even before his first target made of Chinese pressed cardboard, the author of the text already understood that just a target on the wall was categorically wrong. The wall must be somehow protected from local snipers. Just going to the store and buying it is not an option at all; we don’t live in England. It became clear that we had to somehow paint our own protection on the wall. And the author of the text was already beginning to think about the size of the protection that would fulfill its task, but a collapse occurred in the form of the purchase of the first target made of Chinese pressed cardboard.

It was not possible to struggle with common sense for more than 7 minutes, and the target was hung on a bare wall. Well, just take a quick look with the whole family: what kind of thing is this - some kind of darts there. After another 15 minutes, it became clear that the decision to “see what kind of darts this is” was just common sense, because no matter what size protection was planned for the wall, it still would not cope with its task.

It is completely unclear to the author of the text for what reasons standard protection on a target is made with a diameter of something in the region of 70 cm (with a target diameter of 45 cm). The size of 70 cm is completely illogical in any way. Those who have been throwing for a year already do not need protection on the target in principle. For those who have just bought a target, the protection meter per meter will be too small, however. And who the standard ~70 cm are aimed at is a mystery shrouded in darkness. A protection of 70 cm is a completely useless and extremely incomprehensible size of the principle of “average temperature in the hospital” - for some it is absurdly large, for others it is categorically insufficient.

So what is the correct amount of protection, the attentive reader will ask. In our family, we received the answer experimentally after the first 2-3 months of mockery of the wall where the target hung. The area of irreparable damage caused was measured and at the same time the size of the correct protection for the target was found - it turned out to be 100 by 105 cm. 100 in width and 105 in height. It was decided to make a protective shield of this size. Moreover, make it beautiful and indestructible, and cover all this terrible destruction with it.

The first shield was a trial and error option

. It was decided that the main area would be made of hardboard (fibreboard) 5 mm thick. Hardboard 5 mm thick is stitched with a dart one at a time. Therefore, the hardboard was screwed onto a frame made of wooden blocks so that there was a gap between the wall and the hardboard. It all turned out to be long and tedious, because... It was still unclear what method of attaching the target to the shield would be used - accordingly, it was not clear in which places on the hardboard on the back side the bars should be located so that the target fastener would be attached to them, and not to the air behind the hardboard. Ultimately, the frame made of bars was built so that it was suitable for two different types of steep and expensive overseas fasteners, and the target was eventually hung on the shield using the simplest standard fasteners that come with every normal target.

Hardboard on wooden blocks was wrapped in carpet. The carpet is screwed to the bars. The result is a beautiful, powerful stationary protection. I hung it on the wall and forgot about the nerves from missing the target, and the eye is happy. It cost about a grand for consumables, more than half of which was carpet.

It turned out beautiful, but loud

. There is air between the hardboard and the wall. A sheet of hardboard measuring one meter by one meter with air between itself and the wall, and after a good hit with a dart it makes a good and booming sound. Even a good hardboard carpet can’t save you. They did not redo anything. That's how we live.

About a year later I had to make another shield. His task is different. This is not a stationary shield on the wall, but a mobile shield on a portable stand to provide a warm-up game line at our tournaments. The second shield was made taking into account the mistakes of the first shield and it cost not one piece, but one and a half. And all because of the same carpet - the most expensive component. It was necessary to put twice as much carpet on this shield for one simple reason. I hung a stationary shield on the wall and nothing is visible from behind it - which means there is no need for a carpet there at the back. But a mobile shield is a completely different shield - they can also look at it from behind. Moreover, a lot of people can do this. Therefore, it must be completely wrapped in carpet, and have a presentation everywhere, and therefore it is no longer a piece, but one and a half for consumables.

And of course, no hardboard on wooden blocks. The main supporting structure of the shield was plywood.

I wanted to use plywood 4 mm thick, but the local store didn’t have such thin plywood and had to buy 6 mm. Either 4 or 6 mm will be pierced through with a dart if a beginner throws a dart shouting “this is Sparta!”, but this is not critical, because there is no wall behind it, but it just hangs on the counter and let it be stitched right through - it doesn’t make anyone feel hot or cold. But the weight for a mobile shield is critical. That’s why it was planned to use 4 mm plywood, not 6. For a stationary panel, I would highly recommend 1 cm thick plywood, and then do almost everything with it exactly the same way as I did with my 6 mm for a mobile panel.

First, we cut to a size of 100 by 105 cm - this takes into account the fact that a person who is at the dawn of his darts can throw at the target at tournaments. By the way, for a stationary option, I might not even saw it, but I would make it out of standard plywood measuring one and a half by one and a half meters - it’s more reliable, more monumental and larger-scale interior in the apartment, only the cost of the carpet will be even higher. Then, for sound absorption and dart-proofing, we glue the plywood on both sides over the entire area with polyethylene foam 5 mm thick. PVA glue is ideal. But actually, this is my shield with a 5 mm polyethylene foam layer. If I were making another such shield now, and especially a stationary shield and not a mobile one, I would cover it with polyethylene foam 8 mm thick rather than 5 mm. Such a layered cake will definitely not penetrate the dart and the sound from the blow will be better swallowed. Then I wrapped the whole thing in carpet and screwed the carpet to the plywood. All screws are screwed in from the back side of the shield along the perimeter of the shield and along the edges of the carpet with 15 mm screws, where 1 or 3 layers of carpet are screwed in, and with 20 mm screws, where 5 layers of carpet are screwed in - after bending the carpet in places where it is layered, exactly 5 layers come out on these bends and layers. On the front of the shield, the screw heads are completely absent. The carpet is cut extremely competently to fit the curves, as a result of which the shield looks perfect, both from the front and from the back. The photo shows the finished shield plus on either side of it a portable stand for the shield and a portable additional light.

In theory, it would be better to mount the light on the shield, but there is not enough money for it yet, and therefore the shield is not included with the light yet. We'll fix it over time. The shield in this form can be safely mounted on any wall as a stationary protection - with screws of the correct length around the perimeter of the shield + 1-2 attachment points in the center, so that they are located close to the edges of the shield and under the target during operation.

But we have a project for a mobile shield, so we are modifying the shield for a portable stand. It’s not very pleasant to do this, because... you need to drill through the shield in 5 places, and if you drill in the wrong place, then tears of disappointment can be even larger than unnecessary holes in the drilled carpet. Hmmm. First, we drill 3 holes for the bolts for the fasteners, which will be the connecting link between the shield and the rack. Just in case, there are hefty washers on both sides so that holes in the carpet don’t creep out from under them. You need to drill where the target will then cover it all up. Here's the front view.

On top of the central bolt is a homemade penny fastener for hanging a target on it. The fasteners for the target have become a consumable item for me, because... the target is carried around with itself here and there and everywhere it needs to be hung on something. It’s easier to leave the fastener in a new place once than to install it again when you return there. Therefore, fasteners for the target are a cheap consumable, which is made as follows. We go to the hardware store and buy a couple of these things there.

Then we take a dremel, a grinder, a metal file (depending on what is available), give it to our son and challenge him to saw the whole thing as it should, so that he doesn’t chew food in vain. Then we do the same with a drill/screwdriver and get holes on the side of each homemade fastener and a bunch of fasteners like this.

But we digress. Here's a rear view of our mobile shield. Not everything, but only the place where it will be hung on a portable stand. By the way, the weight of the shield came out close to 10 kg. Plus 5 kg target.

But attaching a shield measuring one meter by one meter to a post only in the center is not entirely correct. Or even completely wrong. You need at least 1 more attachment point to the stand on the perimeter of the shield. This point should be as far as possible from the target, i.e. it turns out that it should be from below and as low as possible. We will fasten it using a clamp and drill two holes under it in our carpet sheet and drive two more bolts on washers there.

Reverse side of two bolts. Above them you can see one of the screws that was used to fasten the carpet to the shield from the back side.

This is the clamp

And this is the rack assembled and you can see how it is normal and the shield is correctly connected to the rack using a clamp.

Stand on the reverse side in full height.

Full height front stand.

This is what the stand looks like with the target in a fully ready-to-use state.

And this is what the target looks like on the new shield - if the target was just out of the box, then it would not be a shame to put such a photo of such a shield on the cover of any glossy magazine.

By the way, all targets, except for the Winmau Blade 4 Dual Core target, which comes with 3 cool adjustable legs, are now attached to the protective shields using two corners like these with two screws.

Three birds with one stone are killed at once. Firstly, it is extremely easy, convenient and very fast. Secondly, the target will definitely not move after fixation. Thirdly, through hard corners the energy from a dart strike is transferred much better from the target to the shield than without them - and the target will last longer.

Well, in general, somehow this is how it turned out. I hope my experience will be useful and you will make fewer mistakes than I did.

Animal targets

Targets for sighting for pneumatics can be produced not only in the form of figures or people, but also animals. Such a target will allow you to engage in safe hunting and hone your skills.

Target "Running Rabbit" in A4 format

Perhaps this rabbit is running to find Alice in Wonderland. Or maybe he just saw you as a dangerous enemy. Using a rifle, you can improve your skills and feel like a real hunter. True, here you don’t have to kill the poor animals. Zoning will allow you to aim accurately and determine your successes.

Target "Crow" in A4 format

The target is made in the shape of a gloomy and creepy crow, which involuntarily brings to mind thoughts of haunted houses. True, the crow will not harm you if you manage to shoot it. The drawing has a high degree of detail, which will allow the shooter to be completely immersed in the process. And zoning will give you the opportunity to determine your success.

Air rifle targets: sighting, sports, themed

A selection of the most popular targets for sighting, competitions and just fun shooting with air rifles and pistols. All you have to do is select the ones you need, download them and print them.

Also at the end there are a couple of paragraphs about pneumatics and the law.

Targets for sighting

Shooting of pneumatic weapons should be done regularly, and not just after purchasing it in a store. The sight can become lost simply during normal use, when the weapon is dropped, and in a number of other situations. Zeroing is also necessary when using a new type of bullet.

Pneumatic weapons with muzzle energy up to 7.5 J are usually sighted from a distance of 15-25 meters. Be sure to use a stop or bipod. Zeroing is carried out in series of three shots, after which the average point of impact (MIP) is determined, which is compared with the location of the aiming point (AP).

To do this, the two closest hit points are connected to each other by a straight line, the center of which (we designated it with the letter “A”) is then connected to the third point. This line, in turn, is divided into three equal parts.

The division point closest to the first straight line will be the desired midpoint of the hit. Depending on its location, the rear sight on the rifle or pistol is adjusted.

In principle, a deviation from the aiming point of up to five centimeters is considered relatively normal.

You can use this target for shooting:

Sports targets

Sports targets for pneumatics include, among other things, targets of the International Shooting Federation (ISSF), which are divided by number. For air rifles, target No. 8 is intended, at which shooting is carried out from a distance of 10 meters.

Thematic targets

The variety of targets is actually not that great. Usually the matter is limited to adding a background image or, in some cases, marking the vulnerable areas of certain animals. However, there are original exceptions.

Pneumatics and the law

Despite the fact that air rifles and pistols with muzzle energy up to 7.5 J are not subject to weapons laws, the jurisprudence on them is contradictory.

This home range will be the “other designated shooting area” referred to in the law.

But despite this, if you receive complaints from neighbors, you may still need a good lawyer, and this is something to keep in mind.

Airgun targets

If you want to get into sports shooting or just buy pneumatic guns for outdoor shooting, it will be useful for you to know what targets exist. Let's consider targets both for competitions and for “home” use, which are easy to make with your own hands. Let's start with the simplest and most famous:

They have different versions depending on the weapon and range. So, for example, weapons at a range of 10, 25 or 50 meters will have a different number and size of concentric circles. They can be made in the form of one (pistols), several (rifles) circles, or in the form of animals with different versions of the target.

Requirements

According to the specifications of the International Shooting Sports Federation, targets must be made on a thick base (paper) of white color.

If they are to be used in competitions, all products must be of the same edition.

Targets used for training and directly for scoring shots must be different: the former have a black stripe in the upper right corner (it must be visible from the shooting position).

Such targets can be easily printed on a printer in A4 format.

Air rifle at 10 meters

At a distance of 10 meters, they shoot at targets that have special requirements for the size of the circles. Dimensions are given starting from the center. Allowable error is 0.1mm.

The apple is made 0.5 mm in size.Circles follow in 5mm incrementsThe last circle has a diameter of 45.5 mmOnly the last 3 circles are not painted over

Air pistol at a distance of 10 meters

At a distance of 10 meters, they shoot at a target that is significantly larger in size compared to a rifle.

The first circle measures 11.5 mmCircle pitch 16 mmThe last circle has a diameter of 155.5 mmOnly the first 4 circles are painted

Moving target for 10 meter air rifle

This target is different from the previous ones. A 15.5 mm aiming dot is used and is located between two targets for left and right direction of movement. Their dimensions are the same as for a stationary target, but with the addition of one 50.5 mm circle.

A hundred-dollar target is used to find out how much accuracy a gun hits depending on the distance to detect the maximum lethal accuracy of shot. The target with a diameter of 750 mm includes the following zones:

  • "D" with an outer diameter of 750 mm,
  • "G" with a diameter of 635 mm,
  • “B” - 521 mm, “B” - 396 mm,
  • “A” - 252 mm and 163 mm,
  • apple with a diameter of 50 mm.

The target is divided into 100 shares. The gun is zeroed at the target from a distance of 35 m (the distance from the target to the muzzle of the barrel). Shooting is done from point blank range. The best air temperature for zeroing a gun is considered to be 12.5 degrees C.

Indicators characterizing the combat quality of a shotgun:

  1. Accuracy % - the number of pellets that hit a circle with a diameter of 750 mm, in relation to the total number in the projectile.
  2. Scree uniformity is the location of pellets over the entire target area with a diameter of 750 mm, taking into account the condensation towards the center.
  3. Condensation to the center - the number of pellets falling into zones A and B divided by the number of pellets falling into zone D and multiplying this ratio by a factor of 2.25.
  4. Combat consistency is the difference in hitting the target from shot to shot.
  5. The density of the scree in each zone is the number of pellets falling into the zone divided by the area of the entire zone.
  6. The nature of the scree is the number of fields affected in the zone (by at least one pellet).
  7. The accuracy of a gun is the average deviation of the center of the scree from the center of the target from shot to shot.

Targets for shooting from air guns are divided into two groups:

  • Curly. Various images (people, animals, other objects) are applied to them.
  • Round. They have markings that make it possible to count points during group practice. The markings are applied from the center of the target to the edges in descending order.

Today, all weapon owners are faced with the problem of the availability of targets for shooting from an air rifle or bow in specialized stores, as well as their quality and assortment.

But there is a way out of this situation: you need to find shooting targets on the Internet and print them in A4 format that suit you. You can also make them yourself. But before making a homemade target , you need to study the basic requirements that were compiled by the International Shooting Federation (ISSF)

Electronic targets

An electronic target is a stand that is equipped with special sound-measuring equipment and other electronics.

The principle of operation is very simple: when a shot hits the stand, the parameters of the shot are calculated automatically, after which they are registered, and the results of each shooter are summed up.

The first electronic targets appeared in the 89th year of the twentieth century, and for shooting at a moving target (for example, shooting at a running boar target ) - in 2004. They are most often used at major competitions.

Types and sizes of targets for practical shooting, made by yourself

This photo shows a target that is used for shooting from an air rifle from a distance of 10 meters. The center of the target , the so-called "bull's-eye", is indicated by the number 9.

The best way to practice is to shoot a bow or crossbow at a paper target.

  1. Shields shield for crossbow and archery

In order for the arrows to last longer, it is recommended to purchase an arrow shield. During practical shooting , the shield will allow you to keep the arrows in their original form.

Basic requirements for the goals of the International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF)

In accordance with the requirements of the International Shooting Federation (ISSF), targets for practical shooting of any format, including A4, must be printed on thick white or cream paper.

Archery - distance to target and target size

The dimensions of the target , as well as individual elements, are detailed in Table No. 1.

The dimensions , their elements and the distance to the target are indicated in table No. 2. One of the most popular “moving targets” is considered to be a target with a running boar .

Note to table 2:

On targets intended for a small-caliber rifle ( distance 50 meters ), a running boar is depicted in the center of this target, on which marker rings are located.

On the form for an air rifle ( distance 10 m ) there are targets that are intended for the left and right directions of movement.

Between them there is a black apple ( diameter 15.5 mm ), which is necessary for aiming.

10 meter targets

At a distance of 10 m, you can choose a target of any shape. This can be a round or shaped target. The main condition is that it must be significantly larger than the rifle itself. This distance will be optimal for beginners. You can download the targets on the Internet in pdf or jpg formats.

The sixth target is used for training or as a test in competitions.

Target #8

The dimensions of the target 8 depend on the shooting distance. The eighth target can be an excellent solution for preparing for competitions or improving sports skills. Most often used at a distance of 10 meters.

The ninth target is also used for skill improvement or athletic competition.

Darts target in A4 format

You can feel like a participant in a noisy party and practice shooting. A clear division into zones will be an excellent solution for beginners. The presence of zones will allow you to accurately know the number of points earned.

Target "Heart" in A4 format

You can find romance even in air shooting. A heart-shaped target will be an excellent solution for charming shooting lovers. It will also be a great way to spice up your date. The target is divided into zones, which makes it easy to calculate the number of points earned.

5. Defeat small falling targets

Field Target is a fun discipline that allows you to hone your precision shooting skills. These airgun drills simulate real-life small game hunting. Long distance, wind - all this complicates the shooter’s task.

Any rifle without double recoil will do - low-power SPP or PCP. Pre-pumped models are ideal for plinking, but they come with a high price tag. Targets in the form of rodents, but with a secret. For the object to fall, the shooter must enter the “kill zone.” The figure will remain motionless if the bullet hits its silhouette.

The owner can check his accuracy and the parameters of the air rifle. You can invite your friends and have a fun competition. Rings with a hook will add excitement, narrowing the “kill zone” down to the diameter of the bullet. Whoever hits the baby squirrel first becomes the winner. The game can be extended by keeping track of the points scored. Participants set the rules themselves.

Biathlon targets can be used. The task is to change the color of 5 circles from 50 meters. The operating principle of the installation is similar to the previous example.

Sports targets

Sports targets for pneumatics include, among other things, targets of the International Shooting Federation (ISSF), which are divided by number. For air rifles, target No. 8 is intended, at which shooting is carried out from a distance of 10 meters.

mishen-N8_10m.pdf, mishen-N8.doc (6 targets on one sheet)

For air pistols, target No. 9 is used, also from a distance of 10 meters.

Korshunov targets are also used. The dimensions of their “ten” correspond to the accuracy of the weapon at the appropriate distance for which the target is intended.

Falling targets-bullet catchers for pneumatic shooting

If you do not have the opportunity to make massive structures at home, then you can always make several bullet-catching targets that can withstand 20 to 30 hits. Of course, for constant training or sighting of pneumatics, it is best to get a shooting range, but if you need to “warm up” a little before hunting or try out new optics, then this design will come in very handy - you won’t have to pull out a massive box just for a few shots.

What you need

You don't have to spend much time preparing to make falling targets. All you have to do is dig around your house and find a few old cardboard boxes. Juice or milk containers are ideal because they have optimal dimensions and are easy to process. You will also have to take care of the stands on which the targets are mounted. In general, the following materials will be required:

  • cardboard boxes - the bigger the better;
  • wooden or metal pegs for driving into the ground;
  • several pieces of chipboard or thick board;
  • wire or nails to connect the board to the peg.

The list of tools that may be needed for manufacturing will also not be difficult for most people, since everything necessary is usually available on the household:

  • nails and a hammer - will be needed to make the support;
  • scissors – necessary for cutting cardboard;
  • PVA glue or electrical tape will be needed to connect the parts.

Our main task during the manufacture of the target is to make it as dense as possible. In this case, it is necessary to focus on the power of the “air” so as not to waste too much material. Ideally, the rifle should penetrate 80% to 90% of the cardboard. If you make the target thinner, the bullet will definitely jump out of it. A bullet catcher that is too thick is only relevant if the rifle penetrates up to 40% of the cardboard - you can simply turn the target over.

Step-by-step execution

Let's start making bullet catcher targets from cardboard. As in the case of the shooting range, we leave you with a small instruction that will allow you to make the products of the highest quality:

Step 1 – cut out the parts from cardboard

If milk or juice boxes are used, then simply remove the lid so that more bullet-repellent material can be placed inside. However, the thickness of such boxes is not always enough to hold a ballistic projectile (especially if boxes with a volume of less than 1 liter are used). So it would be better to make the box yourself by gluing it together from pieces of cardboard. To do this, you will need to cut out 2 parts with dimensions of 15 by 8 centimeters (sides), and two 15 by 10 centimeters (back), and one 10 by 8 centimeters (bottom).

Step 2 - glue the box

Once all the necessary material has been cut into pieces, you need to glue the parts together, thereby creating a box. For this purpose, you can use either regular PVA glue or electrical tape. Inside such a box, it is necessary to place several more pieces of cardboard so that they fit as closely as possible to each other. If in the end the bullet will pierce the back wall of such targets, then it is necessary to increase its dimensions in order to accommodate more cardboard. You can place a small piece of red electrical tape on the front of the box or draw a circle with a felt-tip pen to make it easier to aim at the former packaging.

Step 3 - making stands

Placing targets anywhere is not a good idea. The boxes are called drop catchers because they must be raised after each shot. So we take a wooden peg in our hands and connect it to a piece of plywood, chipboard or any flat piece that can support the weight of the box. The height of such a stand depends on the position from which the shooting is intended. If standing, then 1.5 meters should be enough. Well, for prone shooting 40 centimeters is enough.

As soon as everything is ready, we place the targets on the stands and start shooting. The advantage of such catching targets is the ease of their manufacture, but the disadvantage is that they are inconvenient to use in windy weather. However, in fairness, it is worth noting that during windy conditions it is generally not recommended to use pneumatics, since even the slightest air movement deflects the bullet from the given course.

Types of stands for throwing knives

As you get older, smarter, and in some cases even wiser, you become aware of what is happening. Knife throwing is an activity for real men. This is not running around the gates and throwing a folding knife at everything. The matter needs to be taken more seriously. There are several options for stands with targets:

  1. A common and affordable material, you can get it practically for nothing - cross-cut logs. Lightweight, simple and easy to install. Poplar cut has proven to be the best option. Its thickness is recommended around 200 mm, and its diameter from 400 mm. Be careful - ricochets from the edges of the saw cuts are possible.
  2. The option assembled from boards allows the installation of structures of considerable size. The stand can be assembled anywhere. This makes it a permanent accessory for people who love to relax on the river bank or at the edge of the forest. The only negative is the rapid wear of the material. But its purpose is for temporary entertainment. And having friends at the sawmill, getting boards will not be a problem.
  3. A convenient and durable option made from stacked timber cubes. The type of wood does not matter, but the dimensions are quite important. The most suitable cubes are 30x30x30 cm. By assembling them into a dense structure in the form of a square and securing them at the back, they will last a long time. The possibility of reuse by turning the cubes over to the other side gives the design the greatest attractiveness. The only negative is the weight of the entire product.
  4. Cubes made from laminated veneer lumber are slightly inferior to the previous option in terms of their reuse. But the wear period is slightly higher. Thanks to the design features of the production of laminated veneer lumber.

There are many materials from which it is possible to build a stand for throwing knives. Preference is given to wooden products. There are stands for sale in stores, but the price tag is a little scary. In order to save money, trying to do it yourself is a good way to save money and exercise your brains and hands.

Optical sight selection

Initially, an optical sight purchased with a rifle is not needed for training and instilling accurate shooting skills. But with the advent of excitement, there is a desire to feel like a sniper and try to shoot with an optical sight.

For shooting at 10-50 m

For many models of American and Chinese production, an optical sight is included with the air rifle. These are usually small scopes with 3x or 4x magnification. A special feature of these models is their low price and satisfactory accuracy at a distance of 10-50 meters. Inexpensive sights do not require special mounting; they are installed on the rifle body in special grooves. The mount, like the body, is often made of aluminum, which has a negative impact when the weapon is constantly used. The disadvantage of these sights is that plastic lenses are used as optics. Adjustment is accomplished by turning adjustment wheels or screws to adjust the position of the reticle.

For shooting up to 100 m

Sights in the mid-price range have higher magnification, they are more massive and almost all lenses are made of glass. Sights of this level are mounted both on standard grooves in the rifle body and on brackets. The cases are made of lightweight alloy, steel or titanium. Many sights are equipped with light filters and have a reticle illumination function. It is recommended to buy these sights for powerful rifles such as MP-512 or Khatsan 125. For compressed air rifles with RSP of 4.5 or 5.5 mm caliber, this is a good purchase for shooting at distances of 50, 75 and 100 meters.

For precision shooting up to 200 m

For hunting and precision shooting with spring-piston and tank rifles, professional-grade optical sights are required. These are devices with a 20x magnification with built-in filters and an illuminated aiming scale. In them you can change the modes of illumination and target selection in the eyepiece. Sight bodies are made of steel or titanium only. A prerequisite for installing these devices is brackets with several fixation points. Alas, these are very expensive devices, the handling of which requires great skill and professionalism. On the other hand, such optics make it possible to hit targets at a distance of 100 and even 200 meters.
