Lure box: whim or necessity?
Where and in what to store spinners is a purely personal matter; for some it is easier to find the right thing among all the chaotically located variety in a fishing box, but for others, order is needed in everything.
- Varieties
- Required parameters
- With your own hands
Of course, a box for spinners is more of a necessity than a whim. Useful and necessary qualities of a container for storing artificial baits include:
- ease of transportation and operation;
- protection of attachments (and sometimes very expensive ones) from various types of damage (breakage, scratching, etc.);
- Minimum waste of time when searching for the right product.
Varieties
The most budget option is all kinds of containers that are often used at home (construction economizers, car and home first aid kits, food containers, etc.).
Construction boxes are most often used, given their diversity not only in appearance and internal design, but also in size, which sometimes plays a decisive role in the choice of a particular accessory. Special-purpose fishing boxes are in quite high demand among consumers of such products. Their dimensions are maximally adapted to certain sizes of manufactured baits. Such containers fit perfectly into the pockets of equipment and fishing backpacks. Although their cost is much higher than the same construction suitcases, the comfort is worth it.
So, the following modifications are available for sale:
- Single-sided container with size 18x9 and 10 internal compartments. Used for ultra-light class baits, in particular for shad, fat, minnow wobblers with a length of 35, 40, 50 mm. Each cell can contain 2 baits. If you exceed the recommended number of attachments placed, there is a possibility of tangling the hooks and damaging the coating of the product.
- To store large baits, manufacturers have provided models with internal compartments over 7 cm.
Don't forget about the depth of the cells. On the fishing accessories market, boxes for spinners are presented in a wide range from both domestic manufacturers and well-known global companies. Of course, the cost of fishing tanks from leading manufacturers is many times higher, but the products of lesser-known companies are not much inferior to them in terms of consumer qualities.
Boxes for spinners from Volnix are available in a large assortment and at an affordable price. They are designed for storing small wobblers and other baits. The appearance of the container is quite decent, and the quality of the material is quite reliable.
The Japanese company Momoi offers fishing boxes of quite decent quality and convenient configuration. Area of application: minnow nozzles with a length of 6 cm. Boxes with dimensions of 10x16.5x2.7 are especially in demand, but as practice shows, its actual length is 1 cm shorter. This is a single-sided container with 5 compartments, each 32 mm wide. In terms of capacity, it certainly wins, since you can easily load 15 baits into it. You can do more, but then the process of removing the attachments will become somewhat more complicated.
There are also double-sided samples from the same company: model L-85 with dimensions 9x19x3.1 cm. A distinctive feature of this fishing box for spinners is the triangular shape of the internal compartments, and there are 14 of them, and the existing hole for water drainage in the bottom of the container. This box perfectly holds baits during transport, without leaving them the opportunity to dangle and jump from one compartment to another. Although there is one inconvenience here - a peculiar process of opening the lid, but this goes away over time.
The Meino company (Japan) stands out for the production of fishing boxes for budget-friendly spinners. But this is not its only advantage: the original design of the product, an excellent and very convenient design solution instantly catches the eye.
The popular model Clear Case C-800 NS with dimensions of 20.5x14.5x2.8 cm. Its design has 4 longitudinal and 32 mobile transverse compartments, which allow the fisherman to determine the required dimensions himself.
The well-known manufacturer Fire Fox also produces budget boxes for spinners. The most comfortable model is considered to be the MP 2038B product with dimensions of 20x13.5x3.8 cm and 5 compartments, where there is an option for independent separation with mobile partitions. There are 2 hinges and 2 locks on the top of the lid. The fixation of the partitions is quite strong and comfortable.
Canister box
This craft is very popular on the Internet. Many fishermen resorted to it, and most of them were satisfied with their brainchild, noting that such a box is convenient, practical, and cheap.
The tools you will need are a sharp utility knife, and the materials you will need are a plastic oil canister (it is recommended to take a 20-liter container), aluminum corners and hinges (preferably window hinges). To ensure that the box closes tightly and is reliable during transportation, it is worth installing metal plates with eyes on the lid through which a padlock is threaded.
Both a car belt and a nylon belt from a sports bag can be used as a belt. The first option is recommended because it is denser, more durable and less subject to wear.
Particular attention is paid to the top of the lid. For greater convenience, it is recommended to make a soft substrate, which is covered with dense material on top. Many craftsmen use a tourist rug for this.
The canister must be cut, initially measuring the height. If you plan to fish while sitting, then the height should be such that your legs do not become numb even after sitting for a long time.
It is recommended to strengthen the cut edges of the canister with aluminum corners. This will help:
- cover rough edges that could cause you to cut yourself;
- increase structural rigidity;
- create a reliable support for installing hinges.
Small bolts are suitable as fasteners. Pay attention to the inside of the drawer. Vertical partitions can be made from plastic sheets. They also play the role of additional stiffening ribs, making the box stronger and better able to withstand a person’s weight. If desired, this craft can be modified and improved by adding additional drawers, compartments, etc.
Required parameters
When choosing a high-quality box for spinners, first of all you need to focus on the following characteristics:
- Container size - given the constant updating of baits, it is more advisable to purchase a fishing box, if not the largest, then at least a medium one.
- The presence of internal compartments - the ideal option is a large box with many internal compartments and mobile partitions.
- The presence of handles and straps for transportation is such a necessary accessory that allows you to easily carry the box during frequent movements along the shore of the reservoir.
With your own hands
You can make a box for storing spinners yourself, from scrap materials. For this you will need:
- a transparent plastic food container with a tight-fitting lid;
- foam strip for edging;
- self-tapping screws for fixing the edging.
Inside the plastic container around the entire perimeter there is a edging (foam strip 1x1 cm). To increase the versatility of a homemade product, you can additionally fix a similar strip in the middle part (across) of the container. Lures in such a box cling to a strip of foam using hooks. It is better to purchase a container depending on the size of the bait. To ensure that the strips are held securely, they can be secured through the walls of the container with small self-tapping screws. For convenient transportation, the box is equipped with handles.
For the second option you will need:
- 2 organizers for hardware;
- adhesive-based sealant (for insulating windows);
- a piece of cuff elastic;
- automotive double-sided tape;
- scissors.
First you need to cut the seal to the size of the existing cells. Next, you need to remove the protective film from the strips and glue them to the bottom of the cell. Double-sided tape should be attached to the bottom of the organizer. Then you need to remove the protective layer and glue the elastic band to the bottom of the same organizer. After this, you need to remove the protective layer from the second organizer, and then connect (glue) them together with the bottom. The box for storing spinners and other baits is ready for use.
Thanks to the elastic band, it can be attached to both the hip and the belt. If you use a belt or something with a clasp instead of an elastic band, then carrying a bait box will become even more convenient and reliable.
A box for storing spinners is a very convenient thing, which makes it possible to reduce the time spent searching for the desired bait and ensures the safety of the contents.

Spinner box
A spinner box is an indispensable item for storing fishing equipment. It has a lot of advantages - you can store bait in it, sort lures by type, and it takes up little space. You can purchase a ready-made one or make your own box.
What are they?
The most budget-friendly option is homemade containers - a first aid kit, a food storage container and others. Construction boxes are the most commonly used because they come in different shapes and sizes. These boxes are made of durable plastic and the lid closes easily and tightly. Inside it has different sized compartments.
When choosing a box, you should pay attention to the following characteristics:
- size - you should choose a medium box;
- number of compartments inside the container - the more, the better;
- presence of partitions;
- the presence of belts for moving.
Special fishing boxes are made in such a way that the produced baits fit well. The container fits easily into your pocket.
The following variations are available on sale:
- Single-sided containers with internal compartments. Each cell holds several baits. If there are more of them, the hooks will get tangled.
- To store bulky baits, manufacturers have come up with an option with an internal compartment of more than 7 cm. Boxes for spinners come from domestic and world manufacturers.
- Double-sided. The compartments are shaped like a triangle. This type is ideal for carrying spinners, as it holds them well without letting them dangle.
A box for spinners can be selected for any price - from the cheapest to the most expensive.
The listed products are made of plastic, which does not negatively affect the bait.
The cell sizes should not be larger than the size of the bait. This will eliminate the possibility of their contact with each other and their movement. The most spacious and compact are the double-sided models.
How to do it yourself
You can also make containers for storing the spinner with your own hands. A homemade box is remarkable in that it can be made to the desired size and with a sufficient number of compartments. A box of spoons is made from improvised materials.
A homemade container for storing spinners is made from the following materials:
- a transparent plastic container for storing food;
- foam strips;
- self-tapping screws
Place a edging - a foam strip - inside the container. Size approximately 1*1 cm. The bait will cling using hooks. It will be good if the container with baits is the same size.
For versatility of the product, you can place 1 more strip across the container.
Secure the strips with self-tapping screws. To make the box easier to carry, make handles.
There is another option for making a homemade container. You will need an organizer for hardware, a sealant with an adhesive backing, a piece of rubber, and double-sided tape. The sealant is cut to fit the cell size. The protective film is glued to the bottom of the cell.
Attach tape to the bottom. After removing the protective layer, attach the rubber band to the bottom of the container. Having removed this film from the 2nd organizer, connect them at the bottom. The box is ready for use. It is easy to carry the spinner in it, because thanks to the elastic band, the container can be attached to both the belt and the hips. If you replace the elastic band with a belt, then moving the boxes will become easier.
There are many more options for making a container for storing fishing equipment - this is a school pencil case, a cosmetic bag, and much more. Foam is placed in the middle of the container to catch the bait. This way she won't get confused.
Containers for storing and carrying spinners are an indispensable item in a fisherman’s arsenal. With them, the time spent searching for the necessary bait will be reduced, and the contents will be reliably protected. You don’t have to carry boxes with you every time you go fishing, but select only the necessary lures. They are easy to use and do not require large financial outlays. The container can be made according to your own wishes.

How to store silicone baits, spoons and wobblers
Fishing with a spinning rod involves changing baits quite often to identify the most catchy one; this action can even occur several times in an hour. Nozzles removed from the water usually end up in a common box not yet dry, which quickly renders them unusable. To maintain fishing gear in good condition, you need to follow the rules for their storage, which require a special approach.
Storing silicone baits
No spinning fishing is complete without silicone baits. Ultimately, a fisherman’s box accumulates a large number of similar baits with different colors and shapes. If stored improperly, these silicone products will change color, become deformed, and even melt right in the fishing box. Residual water on baits also damages their metal elements, causing them to corrode. Thus, within one week you can lose your entire collection.
How to properly store silicone baits
To properly store such bait, you need to adhere to several recommendations:
- Prepare packaging for the products that is similar to the one they were in at the time of purchase. For this purpose, packaging bags with a Zip-Lock (gripper fastener) would be an ideal option. Such packaging has an affordable price and is produced in a variety of formats. During operation, it does not take up much space and is convenient for repeated opening and closing.
- There is no need to store silicone baits separately. It will be enough to sort them by color and put several pieces in a bag. At the same time, it is important not to mix regular bait and edible (flavored) bait, which is due to the different structure of elastic polymers. When two types of bait come into contact, diffusion is possible, leading to a change in the density of their upper layers.
- An excess of ultraviolet radiation negatively affects the condition of the molded silicone: the structure of the bait changes, as well as its color. The combination of direct sunlight and humid conditions causes silicone fishing products to become deformed. To avoid this, it is necessary to store only dry elements and provide them with light-proof containers.
- You can return deformed products to their previous configuration by placing them in hot water for 10 seconds. Since silicone is a thermoplastic elastomer, being in a warm state, it can be easily molded.
- Before storing the bait elements, it is necessary to remove contamination and get rid of the unpleasant odor acquired during operation. For this purpose, they need to be placed in a container with vegetable oil for a while, then rinsed with water and wiped with alcohol.
How to store edible silicone
Edible baits for spinning fishing can be of 2 types:
- Made from silicone and then impregnated with attractants.
- Made from flavored silicone.
Preparation for storing such a nozzle consists of the following steps:
- the products are thoroughly washed under running cold water, thus getting rid of contaminants;
- in order to give it its original shape, immerse it in hot water and straighten the silicone with your hands;
- dried thoroughly;
- eliminate various damages (ruptures, cuts), for this they use a gas lighter with a turbocharging system.
After completing the preparatory procedures, the products are placed in containers for storage.
How to store silicone baits
There are several options for storing silicone fishing accessories:
- Plastic food containers. This method is easy to use, but requires completely filling the container space. Otherwise, the excess air volume will have a negative impact on the silicone material.
- Factory packaging, which is the best option for storing silicone baits. This is especially true for edible species, since thanks to Zip-Lock fasteners they retain the smell of the attractant well. Each bag contains a sufficient number of products selected by color. If the branded packaging is damaged, you need to use a regular bag, treating it inside with silicone oil and eliminating excess air.
- Special fishing boxes. The convenience of these containers lies in the presence of compartments that allow you to arrange the attachments according to size, color and type. This option is ideal for use, but does not differ in storage quality, since contact with air negatively affects the condition of silicone products.
- Fishing boxes. Such structures accommodate a large number of baits. The presence of a cover provides protection from exposure to ultraviolet rays. However, due to their bulkiness, boxes are not popular among all anglers.
In some cases, canvas bags are used, placing packages with bait in them. Such containers are practically weightless and do not allow sunlight to reach the silicone; moreover, they can be easily put into pockets.
Is it possible to store silicone baits in plastic boxes?
Using plastic storage boxes has both advantages and disadvantages. The first include:
- possibility of keeping baits mounted on the mount;
- ease of replacement during fishing.
The disadvantages are as follows:
- rapid drying of attractants and loss of odor;
- the container has some weight.
In addition, cheap boxes cannot stand contact with silicone, which renders both the container and the baits in it unusable. In this case, it is recommended to use designs only from trusted manufacturers.
Winter storage features
For long-term storage of soft baits, it is first necessary to carry out a number of procedures related to their preliminary preparation: washing, getting rid of dirt, eliminating unpleasant odors, and drying. Then, placing them in a suitable container, leave them for storage at a temperature from + 5°C to + 8°C.
Shelf life of silicone baits
Fishing products made of silicone can be stored for 3 to 5 years. The duration depends on the conditions created for this.
How to make your own wooden fishing box
You can also make a fishing box with your own hands from wooden planks. It is better not to use chipboard in this case, since it is too heavy, swells from dampness, and it is quite difficult to hold it together. For production you need boards, screws, glue and varnish. You can sketch the drawing yourself.
Manufacturing begins with the frame. It is better to use self-tapping screws and glue together. If you coat it only with glue, it is difficult to achieve the strength of the box; if you fasten it with self-tapping screws, the tightness will suffer. Therefore, the best option is to coat the elements with glue and tighten them with self-tapping screws.
A homemade fishing box does not exist without a lid, which, with certain skills, is also not difficult to make. True, you need to decide on its type - whether it will be hinged or simply removable. If you decide to make a removable one, then cut it out of a board smaller than the base. The finished lid can be covered with leatherette, which will give the box an airtight seal.
The lid under the hinges will look slightly different, and the box will begin to resemble a small chest. In this case, you will have to take care of the latch. It can be made from any available means, for example, from wire. The trouser belt clasp also serves the role of a latch perfectly.
Inside, using the same planks, the homemade box is divided into compartments. Some fishermen place one of the containers directly under the lid, resulting in a small mini-box that can be easily removed from the main box.
After completing all the work, you need to think about covering the box. In principle, it doesn’t need to be varnished, but the wood absorbs water very well and when the board dries, it begins to warp and warp. In addition, wood absorbs not only water, but also foreign odors, which are subsequently difficult to get rid of. So it is recommended to cover the product with two or three layers of varnish.
How to store the spinner
Since these fishing lures are made of metal, they are easily subject to corrosion. Therefore, during the storage of spinners, it is necessary to exclude environmental influences. For this purpose, suitable containers are selected for them that do not allow moisture to enter.
Before storing, the spinners must be thoroughly dried, and it is also recommended to rub them until they shine to return them to their original condition. This can be done using a regular school eraser.
Where and in what to store the spinner
The best option for storing spinners is to place them in special boxes. This method has several advantages:
- ease of use and transportation;
- providing protection from various damages;
- when searching, quickly find the desired record.
Storing wobblers
Storage of this type of bait requires conditions that prevent them from coming into contact with each other, leading to the tees getting tangled and scratches.
How to store wobblers so they don't cling to each other
It is recommended to contain such fishing elements in special boxes made of plastic and equipped with removable partitions.
The tees are additionally secured with rubber bands. This will prevent contact between wobblers, their tangling and damage, and also minimize their movement within the container.
In order for fishing accessories to be preserved for as long as possible and not lose their original appearance, it is necessary to follow all the rules for their storage, including preliminary preparation and selection of suitable containers.
Proper storage of spinners
For some anglers, there is a need to carefully store vertical spinners. Since they are made of metal, which is subject to the natural process of corrosion when exposed to the environment, such gear must be stored very carefully.
You can place the spinner in a hard box for storage. Such a container can have different parameters. Boxes measuring 18x9 centimeters are very often used. It has 10 internal compartments where this bait for predatory fish can be placed directly. For example, in each cell of the box you can fit at least 2 spinners, the length of which is from 3 to 5 centimeters. You can, of course, also put in a larger quantity, but the main thing in this case is to make sure that the hooks do not get tangled with each other. Otherwise, removing them from there will be very problematic, and they will begin to oxidize much faster. If larger baits are available, there are box models with internal compartments larger than 7 centimeters. These types of boxes are designed specifically for storing large-sized spinners!
How to make a fishing box with your own hands from a battery
Some labor-intensive work is required if the container is to be made from an unusable car battery. First you need to select the required battery size. First of all, you will need its body, but the top with a handle can also be adapted.
The electrolyte is removed, the cover is cut off, the contacts and internal partitions are cut off. The extracted lead will be useful for making cargo. The bulkheads are not removed flush; it is necessary to leave two to three centimeters of frames. The resulting box must be thoroughly washed with water and soda, which neutralizes the acidic environment.
The next step is the manufacture of the lid, which is cut to the size of the box from plywood or polystyrene, while the middle of the elongated side is made with a gradual increase in width by 10 cm - this is intended so that you can sit on the box.
Four holes are drilled from the end in one plane, the outermost ones correspond to the holes for the handle cord on the body flange. At the opposite end there are two similar holes for the cord. We change it to a more elongated one so that both handles meet above the lid.
The cord at one end is passed through the holes in the lid. To prevent it from dangling, four pads are glued to the bottom, with which the lid will fit into the body at the corners. On top it is finished with a rubber mat for bathrooms. It is possible to make a simple fastener from ordinary wire.
Box for spinners and wobblers - storing baits correctly
A spinner box is an integral element of fishing equipment, which no spinner can do without. It is necessary for storing and transporting baits during the fishing process. Boxes for baits help sort them by type, size and purpose, making life much easier for the fisherman. He does not need to carry all the “ammunition” with him to the river. For experienced fishermen, it takes up a lot of space and has decent weight. A fishing tackle box allows you to take with you only the necessary wobblers and spoons, accessories and other little things that are optimal for specific conditions and fishing method, hunting season and type of predatory fish.
Boxes for spinners and wobblers are needed to avoid chaos and disorder among the baits. It is incorrect to store them in bulk in any large container. Experienced fishermen always sort them by groups, sizes or fishing directions. This allows you to avoid the need to take a large amount of gear with you to the pond that is not needed in a given situation, and you can focus only on catchy models. Useful article: how to properly equip a spinning rod.
The main advantages provided by the box for wobblers and spinners are:
- Orderliness of gear.
- Convenient for storage, transportation and during fishing.
- Safety and protection of the fisherman from bait hooks.
- Protection of wobblers and spinners from various types of damage.
- Optimizing the process of changing baits and minimizing the time spent finding the right model.
Each spinning player has his own preferences regarding the boxes, crates and other containers used for bait. The specific choice depends on the direction of fishing, financial capabilities and the number of spinners and wobblers available in the arsenal.
Box for spinners and baits from a car first aid kit
Surely, many of the fishermen are also motorists, and every car should have a first aid kit, which is not eternal, but has a certain expiration date. This will be the source material for the box...
The result of the work in the photo.
The compartments of the box are closed with Velcro lids
Bottom compartment.
The partitions are made of duralumin; any soft material can be used. I fastened everything with screws and nuts.
Partitions
At the bottom of the cells I placed pieces of a travel rug to get rid of the cracks to which the tees clung. You can use an old mouse pad and place it on the bottom of the box. The “lid” was made from the same tourist rug. It is fixed with Velcro (as practice has shown, it is tightly secured).
Lid
The upper edges of the partitions must be sanded so as not to injure your hands during further use.
I made a long narrow cell at the bottom for leashes - very convenient.
I put polyurethane foam on the bottom, the hooks cling to it better and are easier to remove. I attached it with double-sided tape, you can also use my favorite travel mat by placing it on glue.
I made the lid in the same way as in the upper compartment. You can also attach a belt to wear over your shoulder.
Pros: cheap, very compact and fits a lot of things, complete freedom of creativity (size and number of cells). Cons: metal spinners can rub against partitions with frequent wear (although not a fact) I was tested this fall, it didn’t really work out, I didn’t even need to modify anything I do not want.

Types of bait boxes
Fishing boxes for wobblers and spinners can be specialized or general purpose. The first ones are sold in fishing stores and are made directly for storing baits. Their design, configuration and basic parameters are selected taking into account the needs of fishermen; the manufacturer focuses on different fishing methods, their features and the requirements of modern spinning anglers. Such products are made of special plastic, which has the necessary performance properties and does not have a negative effect on baits.
Some fishermen, lacking financial resources, use various construction boxes, food boxes, school pencil cases, and first aid kits to store baits. They can be modified by changing and modifying them to suit specific models of spinners and wobblers. The advantage of this approach is:
- Possibility of purchasing the required box at the lowest possible price.
- You can modify it yourself, taking into account your needs.
- Many general purpose boxes, especially construction economizers and food containers, are made from durable, high-quality polymer material that can withstand harsh operating conditions.
Both options have the right to life. The specific model is determined by the fisherman independently, taking into account the criteria stated above.
Box for wobblers
A box for wobblers and spinners is an indispensable attribute of any self-respecting fisherman. This fishing box is used to accurately store and easily transport spoons, wobblers and other fish baits. Using this box, the fisherman sorts the baits according to their size and method of use, which greatly facilitates the fishing process and speeds up the search for the spinners and wobblers needed at the moment. For avid fishermen, this box is already a huge, heavy box that takes up a lot of space (usually in a garage or storage room). Before fishing, the necessary baits are moved from the box into smaller boxes that correspond to the time of year, weather conditions at the moment and the type of fish that will be “hunted”.
Specialized boxes for baits
Today, boxes for wobblers and spinners are produced in a wide range. The choice is so multifaceted that even experienced spinning anglers get confused when buying a container for specific baits. Beginners in fishing have a hard time with this question. Often meaningless acquisitions are made, which then gather dust and lie idle.
To store a large number of baits, it is advisable to use large, capacious boxes. These are multi-level organizers that have several pull-out shelves where it is convenient to place wobblers, silicone and spinners. They can also be equipped with various boxes and smaller boxes.
Large boxes are loved by trolling enthusiasts who own a large number of wobblers. Such systems are conveniently located in the boat; all the necessary baits, fishing accessories and tools are at hand. You don’t need to look for them in your backpack; they are not scattered throughout the boat.
Multifunctional boxes are suitable for stationary storage of spinning baits. It is not necessary to always drag it with you to the pond. Before fishing, you can select the necessary models and put them into small boxes and boxes.
Large containers are not suitable for running fishing from the shore. To do this, they use small boxes for spinners and wobblers, in which catchable bait models are placed, necessary for fishing a specific predator in the given conditions.
Fishing vests are used for running fishing. They have many pockets where you can place boxes of bait and save yourself from carrying a backpack or an uncomfortable bag. This equipment is especially popular when fishing in the wade.
Storing wobblers
Anglers often have a question: how to store wobblers in a box so that they do not get tangled and do not scratch the coating with hooks? For this purpose, specialized plastic boxes with removable partitions are used. They allow you to customize the box configuration yourself, choosing the required number of compartments and their size.
Wobblers should be placed one at a time in the compartments. The dimensions of the cell should not greatly exceed the dimensions of the hard plastic bait. This allows:
- Avoid contact of baits with each other.
- Minimize the movement of the wobbler inside the compartment.
To optimize space, manufacturers have developed a double-sided box for wobblers. Its main advantage is its compactness and at the same time spaciousness. This option is popular among spinners.
For ultralight baits
Ultralight spinning rods use miniature baits that do not require the fisherman to have large capacious boxes. For wobblers and silicone, it is customary to use small plastic boxes; they easily fit into a jacket or vest pocket. They are compact and do not burden the fishing process. If necessary, they can always be transferred to the backpack compartment.
For microoscillators and small turntables, specialized cases are used. This original solution to spinning came from fly fishing and immediately gained popularity. In this case, a box for storing spinners is not needed, and the pencil case used is much more compact and ergonomic.
Types of boxes for wobblers
Fishing boxes for baits are:
The latter option is sold by shops for anglers and is produced exclusively for storing spinners and wobblers. They may differ in design, number and volume of compartments and other configurations (for example, with removable partitions or double-sided boxes), which take into account the characteristics of a particular type and method of fishing. These boxes are made from high-quality special plastic, which is resistant to mechanical damage and does not react with the material of modern baits.
Not all fishermen have the financial means to spend money on branded boxes. Therefore, they adapt construction and carpentry boxes, food containers, first aid kits and other boxes for them, modifying them to suit their own needs. This approach also has a number of advantages: you don’t need to spend extra money, you can personally modify it and adapt it to your own needs; many of these boxes, especially construction and food boxes, are made of high-quality plastic, resistant to external influences, and designed for use in extreme conditions.
Both branded boxes and homemade boxes are actively used by fishermen; which one to choose depends solely on the wishes of the fishing enthusiast himself.
Specialized box for wobblers
The assortment of this type of box is so large that even fishermen with many years of experience get lost among the options offered.
If you have many types of baits, then large, spacious boxes are ideal for storing them. Such boxes usually have several levels, many pull-out pockets, and there are also models that, like a nesting doll, include smaller boxes.
Large boxes are usually taken by anglers who prefer to troll from a boat. Once installed on board the boat, the desired bait will always be at hand.
Matryoshka boxes are suitable for permanent storage of baits in one place and are not very convenient for transportation. Before fishing, simply select a smaller box with the necessary wobblers and remove it from the main box.
Bait storage
Wobblers and spoons have sharp hooks that can damage other baits. To ensure that active dangerous parts do not harm the bait, wobblers must be placed one in each compartment of the box. It is important that the compartment is slightly larger than the wobbler itself. A double-sided box is often sold on the fishing equipment market; this option is very convenient and compact, which is why we especially love it among spinning anglers.
Homemade bait box
Many people wonder how to make a box for wobblers with their own hands.
For these purposes, you can adapt and remake an ordinary lunch box or food container:
Such a budget box for wobblers will save money and give the fisherman the opportunity to design a box to his own taste.
Let's sum it up
Any option is good, and each angler makes a choice in relation to baits and their boxes from his own experience.
Homemade bait box
A DIY tackle box can be made from a food container. For this you will need:
- Food box of the required size. Take a model with a tight-fitting lid.
- A strip of foam plastic measuring 1x1 cm for organizing the edging.
- Small screws to secure the edging.
The edging is attached inside the box. Lures are attached to the foam with hooks. This DIY wobbler box has a minimal cost and is easy to make. Its disadvantage is that the edging is short-lived and must be renewed periodically.
To store micro-oscillators and ultra-light turntables, you can use a banal school pencil case with a zipper. To do this, foam rubber plates are placed inside, to which baits will cling with tees. This simple DIY spinner box is original and simple, with virtually no cost.
Where is the best place to store bait?
Nowadays there is a large selection of boxes of different sizes and purchasing them is not difficult. Many fishermen have already acquired such fishing suitcases:
Such boxes are good because 3-4 boxes for bait can be placed inside them. Boxes are standard size. That is, before fishing, you can complete the box in different ways. For example, if you are targeting perch and pike, then load the box with boxes of silicones, spinners and wobblers. If you want to catch asp or pike perch, then put in boxes with castmasters, heavy spoons and foam rubber. In general, this is a kind of construction box. Boxes can be purchased separately. The main thing is that they fit the size of the box.
It is better to label the boxes with a marker and store them on your fishing shelf.
You can do it this way. You take all the spinners, divide them into spinners and spinners. You sort them by size, weight and configuration and put them in boxes as you see fit. Then you sign the boxes. As a result, the boxes will be named “oscillators”, “turntables” or something else.
Do the same with the rest of the baits. Wobblers, silicones and other baits are sorted by color, weight, and other parameters. This way you will organize your gear, and it will be easy for you to find the right bait when fishing.
For storing small spinners, jigs and other baits there are small bags in the form of wallets. Inside, there are foam inserts on each side of the wallet. Lures are attached to these tabs. Most often, such wallets are used to store jigs.
Cheap and convenient! Make a winter box from polystyrene in an hour
The advantages of this model: light weight, withstands loads of over 100 kg, does not heat up and holds temperature well. You can rest assured about food, jigs and bloodworms. Thanks to the properties of the material, you can easily realize almost any creative idea. Make the height and width such that you feel comfortable.
Materials:
Polystyrene 5 cm thick, 2 - 3 sheets. Before purchasing, estimate exactly how much material you will need. It’s okay if there is excess left over - you can always add a compartment or use it for the exterior decoration of the product.
- Glue “Titan” or its analogue – 0.5 l
- Hinges
- Screws
- Straps
- Angles for supporting the charabanc
- A magnet for fixing the lid or another fastener to be able to close the box
Tools and fabrication:
The first thing you need to do is visualize the box of your dreams. This refers to the shape, size, number and location of sections. Next, draw a rough sketch of the structure and start cutting materials. Armed with a jigsaw/saw with fine teeth, a screwdriver and a construction knife, you can safely get down to business.
Tip: measure 7 times - cut 1 time. This will save time and material. Also, be sure to make a dividing wall inside the box, it will give the structure additional strength.
Caring for spinners, jigs and castmasters
Spoons, jigs and castmasters require separate care. These lures fade over time and need to be brought back into working condition. It's very easy to do. Take a regular pencil eraser and rub the bait until you get the desired shine. This activity can be done in your free time from fishing and work. It requires perseverance and a little patience. But you will get sparkling baits that are no different from new ones.
Spoons are made from various metals. Some of them are susceptible to corrosion. To avoid this, baits must be wiped off after fishing and stored in plastic boxes.
It is also very important to monitor the sharpness of tees and other hooks on baits. You must have a special sharpener for this type of hook:
This indispensable tool will come in handy when fishing. With its help, you can easily restore the sharpness of your hooks within seconds. At home, you can take more care in fine-tuning your hooks. The sharpener comes with an instruction manual.
Before the start of the fishing season, you should carefully inspect the lures. If there is rust, they should be placed in a container with citric acid. After this, the plaque will go away. You should also touch up some places in time or change the holographic coating if the old one has become unusable.
If we fish with spoons at sea, then at home we should definitely wash them from plaque, wipe them dry and place them in a well-ventilated place. All of the above applies to castmasters and jigs.
Storing and caring for silicone baits
Twisters, vibrotails, crustaceans, worms and other silicone baits are best stored in the plastic bags in which they are sold. Do not mix different silicones with each other. Many of them have their own smell and color. When mixed, the result is a dubious assortment that the fish may not appreciate.
Try not to break the seal of the packaging. In a tightly closed package, the bait will retain all its smells and aromas. If the smell disappears, you can add an attractant. If silicones are odorless, then they can be stored in plastic boxes. The main thing is that these boxes are not exposed to the sun. In this case, the silicones will soften and become unsuitable for fishing. At home, they should also be stored in a dry and cool place away from sunlight. Silicones should not be allowed to come into contact with chemicals.
It is convenient to store silicones and other baits in boxes because they are made of transparent plastic. You can see the entire composition of the bait without opening it.
It often happens that a predator attacks the silicone and bites off a piece of rubber. It happens that the bait returns from the mouth of the fish torn. You can restore the integrity of the silicone using special silicone glue, which is sold in fishing stores.
It is enough to drop a few drops of this glue into the place of the tear, warm up the gluing area a little with a lighter, and the bait will restore its integrity.
Convenient storage box for 14 wobblers
The box is made of fairly thick transparent plastic. On the side there is a flexible rubber handle, which at rest is in a straightened state and pressed against the end. It is easy to pry off with your fingers and, in my opinion, is intended rather only for removing the box from the bag. If you use a handle to carry the box, you should take into account that the rubber strap is very securely fixed only in extreme positions, but on average it jumps off the plastic guides quite freely at a certain bending angle. The handle is quick-release, some people need it, and some don’t. Therefore, if you really need to, you grab it with three or four fingers and carry it without swinging your hand too widely.
The box is double-sided and has overall dimensions of 273x167x45. The covers on each side are secured to reliable hinges that do not jam during operation and are held closed by a pair of convenient latches. What’s nice is that the box is “tightly built”, there is no sign of any wobbling or looseness of the lids when closed. Each side has seven full compartments and one narrow one. This means that a total of at least 14 wobblers with a maximum length equal to the internal size of 146 mm can be placed in the box. Wobblers of shorter length are placed “jack” or one after the other. Only something with a very skinny body will fit into a narrow cell. Personally, string leashes have taken root there - both for them and for me, it’s very convenient.
